5.0 out of 5 starsAwesome unit, step up from smaller Show 5

I imported 2x Echo Show 8's from UK. They are awesome displays for family photos, audio is x10 better and are otherwise identical to the smaller Show5's. Yes, the clock display cant be set to full screen. Minor grumble.
I have seen many reviews on this and each to their own. I haven’t owned a show 5 so I can’t mention the issue with the customisation of the home screen. This is what I know. I have had it for a couple of weeks. The sound is okay, not jaw dropping. The screen is clear and the bright. The ability to call works well and Alexa seems to work well also. Sometimes the volume peaks when you ask Alexa to do something. The volume button plays up when shifting the volume up and down just after requesting a song to be play. The scrolling screen is a bit of a gimmick. Other then that it’s a cracker of a device. I have it in the kitchen and it does what I need it to do. Clock size isn’t an issue and I am guessing with updates it will getbetter. Great unit at the introduction offer pricing.
Never thought I am going to love this product. Alexa is gettingbetter every day, The more I use it the better can be. It is always to get in the morning and say " Alexa get me the latest news or "Alexa turn on the TV" I love it very much. Travel photos are also amazing. Echo show 8 made my life easier than use to be. Helping me out in my everyday cooking is fantastic. And yet had this for half of the price which I love the most. Thank you amazon for 50% offer and definitely looking for another item, perhaps when there 50% discount again. ALEXA IS WOW N WOW........
I mostly use the Show 8 for playing Spotify and it's superb at this.
I also have an Echo Show 5. I pre-ordered the Echo Show 8 because I heard it's sound was much better. I've been really impressed with it - the sound really is so much better than the Show 5, plus I haven't encountered the fuzzy/static sound problem I continuously get on the Show 5. The sound quality is more than enough for the room I have it in. I feel that even just using it as a music player it was great value for the pre-order price.
The only gripe I have with it is that you can't have the screen display similar to the Show 5. I love the large alarm clock look and the decorated backgrounds on the Show 5. If I could choose to display a large alarm clock on the Show 8, rather than the tiny clock in the corner, I'd be very happy.
i've owned Google home for ages but switched and i think her voice sounds more cranky and she seems mean at times, but Alexa has a soothing voice and seems to be more kind, i love how you can program Alexa with skills vs Google that does it's own thing minus community additions..i would give a 5 on score but i feel like if i pump volume to full it might break speakers so i put it to 80 percent no higher, that said you can add other speakers to this, not saying speakers are crap either i just dont think it would handle too high, there's so much i could say how cool this device is, i've linked it to amazon music having prime myself ..its way better then googles options, i get no ads or high prices for music steaming sites like i would with google home ..i havent tried calls yet to comment but i did call in to my device while away to use camera to check out for thieves..does an amazing job there as a security camera :) , i have great control with smart lights too. if you purchase this device make sure you plug power plug in hard, when i got mine it fitted into power socket and thought that it was plugged in right but i thought it was faulty then discovered it needs a hard push(not too hard) of plug into socket when you first get it...its a great device really worth getting and like i've said i do prefer this to googles offerings
I got one at the introductory pre-order price and I have been awed by just how good this is. The sound is very very good quality for the size and the display is crisp and detailed. I don't see how you could get a better unit for the price. With Amazon Music you get lyrics display for songs, which is also handy. Alexa works flawlessly and also makes visual recommendations when idle, which have taught me more things that the speaker can do. I thoroughly recommend this to anyone looking for a mid size smart display speaker.
Picked up my new Echo today - my first Amazon device - initially disappointed that my prime membership account is not recognised with no way to open Prime Video. Contact from amazon tech resulted in glitch resolved; a default factory reset and firmware update helped. On the plus side, the screen is great and speaker sound very decent. Alexa has no trouble understanding me. Enjoying the product fully - within the Australian limits. I recommend getting the stand as really does help. One star off because there is no keyboard search function within YouTube or Prime Video, Music etc.
