I imported 2x Echo Show 8's from UK. They are awesome displays for family photos, audio is x10 better and are otherwise identical to the smaller Show5's. Yes, the clock display cant be set to full screen. Minor grumble.

A very welcome addition to the Echo family for Australian users!
We love our kitchen companion EchoShow. We use it all the time for ordering from Amazon, playing music, checking the weather, looking up recipes and controlling our smart devices. We especially love the ability to have it constantly cycle through our family photos as a slideshow which is always bringing back great memories and a focal point for family to remember events.
Features we love: - Ordering via Amazon is easy as, gives a few popular choices for products. Can buy or add to your cart for later. - Playing music easy as just asking "Alexa play music" or asking for a previous station or playlist is easy. - Easy to look up our favourite recipes and have on hand. - Provides slider control for controlling smart devices like light bulbs.
Some improvements are needed though: - You can add items to your cart, but then can't remove them in anyway I can find. There is no way to access via touch and asking Alexa "remove paper towel from cart" "clear cart" "delete from cart" all just gives "hmmm I don't know that". - STILL no parental controls at all with Amazon Music via Echo devices. Not even explicit music filter. Your kid gets misheard and suddenly mature music or even video playing.
But comparing devices and coming from the original Show Gen 1 this is a great upgrade we are loving so far!
Not going to lie I'm very disappointed with the echoshow 8. The hardware is great, the speaker and screen actually amazed me. Where it falls short is the software side. First disappointment; for no reason you can't change the clock look like you can with the echoshow 5. The 'home screen' clock only takes a 10th of the space. It seems pretty bland and useless compared to the echoshow 5. Also when asking Alexa to shuffle music, Echo does not have to capability to actually do that. It just swaps some songs but essentially play them in order. I think this can just be fixed with a update but until then i'm disappointed and am considering a return.
Never thought I am going to love this product. Alexa is getting better every day, The more I use it the better can be. It is always to get in the morning and say " Alexa get me the latest news or "Alexa turn on the TV" I love it very much. Travel photos are also amazing. Echoshow 8 made my life easier than use to be. Helping me out in my everyday cooking is fantastic. And yet had this for half of the price which I love the most. Thank you amazon for 50% offer and definitely looking for another item, perhaps when there 50% discount again. ALEXA IS WOW N WOW........
I mostly use the Show 8 for playing Spotify and it's superb at this.
I also have an EchoShow 5. I pre-ordered the EchoShow 8 because I heard it's sound was much better. I've been really impressed with it - the sound really is so much better than the Show 5, plus I haven't encountered the fuzzy/static sound problem I continuously get on the Show 5. The sound quality is more than enough for the room I have it in. I feel that even just using it as a music player it was great value for the pre-order price.
The only gripe I have with it is that you can't have the screen display similar to the Show 5. I love the large alarm clock look and the decorated backgrounds on the Show 5. If I could choose to display a large alarm clock on the Show 8, rather than the tiny clock in the corner, I'd be very happy.
I find the echoshow quite good. The sound to me is almost on par with my 2nd generation echo. The screen is useful to check smart cameras, reminders and calendar. However I would prefer it having more options to customise. One thing I particularly don’t like is “tips” and “try alexa”, would like the option to have it turned off without affecting my continuous rotation. The other thing is the clock, would’ve prefer if its much bigger and take more than like 1/8th of the screen.
I have an EchoShow 5 and an EchoShow 8. The 5 displays the date but the 8 does not. The idea of a device on the kitchen bench that is all-encompassing is desirable and the EchoShows do that for the most part but the absence of the date on the 8’s display is bewildering.
To continue the feedback theme, both devices go into sleep mode automatically at night, but if you display a slideshow of photos from Amazon Photos during the day, there does not appear to be a way of customising the font size and colour of the time display in sleep mode. The time on my 5 beside my bed was a difficult-to-read small dull red. I don’t wear classes in bed so the display should not be odd, dull colours because I have an Amazon Photos slideshow
Brought it on pre order at so called 1/2 price "that's all it's worth". You can only watch prime video all other streaming services like Netfix, stan and Disney are not allowed ??? I have had to do a full factory reset in the first month as all it would tell me was "something went wrong" and would no nothing I asked. It also does not pick your voice up anywhere near as good as the echo dot 3 that it replaced and even though it's in the same room as the WIFI router it shows the orange connection issue bar several times a day. Sound is ok on par with the dot but with more bass nothing to make you go wow over, nice and clear fo my audio books. Does everything the dot can do plus prime video scrolling pictures, weather updates and clock. As Amazon search is nowhere near Google's, the fact they block Netflix and others plus a lot of the features that work in the USA don't work here in Australia means its gimped at the get go and time will only tell? Web browsing is also awful again using their own limited silk browser or a butched firefox . According to reports this device is running on Android, why would you cripple the useability by locking down and limit what could actually achieved by this device, it should be able to do everything a tablet can do and more? In the end it's an ok device at $120 whilst being crippled by blocking certain things, do not pay full price it is not worth that amount of money.
I already have an echoshow 5 and use that as a bedside echo. It's well suited and customised to the purpose. The 8 has some pros such as better sound and screen large enough to enjoy watching prime video. Perhaps the best use is video calling family during this time of restrictions on travel. But it is a bit less customised - why no neat clock faces like the show 5. And seriously they need to figure out a youtube app.
