Product Description

Marry me.

Two words Kalli Montgomery never expected to say out loud to Xavier Cruz, even though she's been in love with the sexy, single father for as long as she can remember. Unfortunately, she hasn't just been friend-zoned for the past ten years. No, even worse, he's treated her like a little sister, no matter how hard she tried to prove she could be so much more. When she agrees to spend the summer as the caregiver for his daughter, Lily, she knows it's her last chance to finally make him take notice.

As unexpected circumstances threaten to disrupt his home life, Xavier's desperate to keep his family together. He'll do whatever it takes, even if it means marrying a woman he doesn't love. For Xavier and Lily, Kalli will do just about anything, even at the risk of getting her heart broken in the process.

Little does she know, sometimes love isn't quite as unrequited as one may think. Xavier sees her-he always has. And the vow he made all those years ago never to go there with his best friend's little sister is wavering, and it's wavering fast. When they come up with a plan that leads to wedding bells, it's a no brainer.

This marriage of convenience has one rule: absolutely no falling in love.

Easier said than done. Throw together a girl who believes rules are meant to be broken, and a man whose whole career revolves around following orders and you get a recipe for disaster. What could possibly go wrong?

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great story in the Explosive series 30 June 2015

Every time a new book in this series releases I get school girl giddy about them. I'm a sucker for a military man and Tessa Teevan writes the best of them. It doesn't hurt that I spent 4 years living at Fort Campbell, where the book is based. I really liked this one in particular though.
Honestly I can't say that I felt one way or another about Xavier prior to reading his story but, make no mistake, I'm a big fan now. I have to say the fact that he is such a good father to Lily and always puts her first is a huge turn-on. Throw him in a uniform and I'm a goner. He's sweet and kind, hard-working and caring on top of all that. Sawooon!!
This book was told in alternating POV's and sometimes that can be hard to pull off, but I think this was done well. Kalli's POV came off a little more playful because of her personality but I enjoyed Xavier's a little more. He's a bit more serious and brooding, but you could totally feel the love he had for both his family and friends, but especially for Kalli.
I love the way that Tessa wrote it as a re-telling of their story to their friends and family and easily transitioned into the present and future. It made the story flow really well.
This was another successful mission in the Explosive series and you shouldn't hesitate to read it ASAP.

No cliffhanger
Standalone but part of a larger series
Told from both POVs
Minor editing errors but the story is good enough you can look past it.

Holy freaking wow. This book had me hooked from the first page. I have enjoyed this entire series but this one might be my very favorite so far. Kallie is a firecracker and I found myself cracking up multiple times. Xavier is hot as hell but cautious due to his past. From the get go these two are explosive but every time they take a step forward Xavier takes 3 steps back. That is until Kallie shows him what he is missing. He has a 10 year old daughter and him trying to navigate parenthood and a relationship was definitely something that made you love him even more. Even though he wanted to be selfish he knew he had to do what was right for his daughter.

I was hooked from the first page and couldn't put this book down. I loved that you got a glimpse out of the gate of where they were and then memories took you back to how they got there. I found that type of story grabbed me faster than waiting for the build up. It helps that they were naked in bed at the start of the book too. Lol

Can't wait to read Kaylie's story which I assume is next since she is the only single one left. Since she is Kallie's twin I have very high hopes for that book too. Hopefully it comes out soon!

Great read!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet story 11 February 2015

Tessa has a talent for writing sweet love stories built around friendship, love, and family, and Intoxicate is the perfect blend of all three.

Being a single father while in the military is hard, and no one knows that better than Xavier Cruz. When Lily’s mother walked out on him, it could have meant the end of his career; luckily, he had a loving mother who rushed to his side to help take care of his daughter while he was away. Now that she's decided to leave for the summer, he’s getting help from someone that he never imagined he'd have so close – his best friend’s little sister.

Kalli Montgomery has been secretly in love with Xavier since she was 16 years old. Now that she’s spent the entire summer with her favorite father-daughter duo, those feelings have only intensified. So naturally, when Xavier runs into some problems, Kalli offers to marry him so he won’t have to risk losing Lily. Of course, if he were to happen to fall in love with her in the process, she wouldn't be one to complain.

I absolutely loved Xavier. He was an amazing father, a caring man, and a great friend. But then again, I also had an insane desire to pick up a four-by-four and beat him over the head a few times. What can I say? I've come to the conclusion that I'll never be able to read a Tessa book without wanting to smack sense into a character at least once.

Kalli was persistent as hell. She came off extremely strong in some areas, but she at least went after what she wanted - unlike the man I wanted to beat. That being said, she was also selfless and full of heart.

For me, the real star was Xavier’s ten year old daughter. Lily was hilarious and so quick to call her Father out when he was being idiotic. I adored her character and loved watching her with both of the adults. It really felt like a family to me.

If you’re looking for a feel good read and don’t mind a slower than usual progression between the guy and girl, then I definitely recommend picking up a copy today. Intoxicate was a 5 star read for me and definitely one that I’ll pick up again.

I love the Explosive series by Tessa Teevan and was pretty excited for Xavier's story. I've been finding myself more and more drawn to these single parent romances and who doesn't love a hot, single dad, right?? And a man in uniform to boot!

So, while I did like the story for the most part, I had a hard time really connecting to both of the main characters, Xavier and Kalli. Xavier was TOO indecisive for my liking - I wanted him to be a little more alpha and grow a pair! I completely understand and respect why he's been so cautious with his heart and his daughter's future - the mother of his child walks out on them when she's just a baby and he needs to be careful in order to protect the both of them from further heartache. I just felt like he was missing a little *something* extra to make me go ga-ga over him. I liked Kalli's character a little bit more because she's got qualities that usually make me instantly like a heroine - a bit of sass, good sense of humor and is confident enough in herself to voice what she wants, but I sometimes kinda felt like I missed out on growing with her throughout the story. She already had her feelings figured out and revealed to us and her intentions were clear.... so maybe it made her kinda boring because I didn't have to figure out what her deal was?? Even though this wasn't a favorite of mine in the series, you may love it!! I loved the other books and Tessa Teevan's writing so I'll definitely keep reading this series and her other work!

Who do I choose now Xavier or Knox? Xavier Cruz was one hell of a man in this book. Kalli was a very strong woman that knew what she wanted and went after it. Xavier showed strength, determination and compassion. He will make you feel warm and fuzzy in this book and I love it. He is protective of his heart and was very protective of his daughter.

We all want to have hope. Between Xavier and Kalli this book was full of love and there was nothing that would stop them from the fight that laid ahead. This took you up and down a roller-coaster so fast and showed you that love and faith can conquer all. Work together and be sure that you know you deserve each other and the team will be complete.

Sometimes we fight what is right in front of us. Then again sometimes we don't need to and just go for it and have the courage to finish the feelings that complete us. This book was truly "Explosive" and I wish there were more.
