Product Description

Rock star Kendrick Main is living the dream—or so it seems to the outside world.

In reality, he’s trapped in a lie that’s consuming his soul and destroying his family. For years, the owner of his record label has manipulated and blackmailed him, forcing him to deceive the world and hide the existence of those he loves the most: his wife and children.

Unable to see a way out that won’t destroy the lives of his bandmates and brothers, he loses himself in the bottle. His downward spiral ends when he wakes up in intensive care after a near-fatal drunken crash. With nothing left to lose, he buys out of his contract and announces the existence of his wife and kids to the waiting paparazzi.

Penniless and lost, he has nothing to show for his former success but a broken family and a mile-long list of people he’s let down. When the pain and suffering that surrounds him trickles down to his children, Kendrick vows to right his wrongs—hopefully taking down the man who ruined his life and winning his wife back in the process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down 18 April 2017

Kay Halliday's debut book, "Interlude" entangles the reader instantly. I couldn't put it down.
From the beginning I expected the Rockstar who lost it all to be the stereotypical party animal who threw everything away; but that isn't the case. Kay draws you into Kendrick's story & has you pulling for him all the way through. I loved how all of the characters interacted & the foundation was laid for an entire series to be developed. I cannot wait to read the rest of FourMain's stories.
4.0 out of 5 stars a really interesting read, with lots of emotion and drama.   18 April 2017

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:  Romance, New Adult

I love the Rock Star genre, but this is a story about rock stars, not one set in the active touring/songwriting/recording world.
I can't find any other books by Kay, so assume this is her debit novel and it's very well done for a first novel.

I did find though at times it dragged, usually I love long novels, but sometimes this one seemed as though they were hashing and rehashing things out so much I switched off. The same things came out in just slightly different way it felt.
That's my main criticism about the book, its an excellent story but could (IMO of course! not everyones) have been tightened up a bit, with some parts made clearer, strengthened.
I'm thinking of things such as exactly why Kendrick and Eliza were apart, when its clear they're both still deeply in love, he's visiting her and the kids most days.
There's this undefinable "something" that's caused it and I found it frustrating not knowing what the issue was. I felt I'd missed reading a section maybe and even skimmed back to check. that carries on throughout the book and I just couldn't see why they were apart. Given its such a huge thing, a major plot in the story, I needed to know sooner, and when right near the end it finally comes out it felt wrong, very anti-climatic. Life just doesn't work like that, we don't know whats coming, how we'd react, we just have to roll with it.

The first half was a little slow for me, and I did skim a few scenes...*blush* wanting to get to the meat of the story.
The last third was so perfect though, really set up the scenes, provided lots of excitement and drama, right up my street.
I'm hoping in later books this part gets continued, its a potentially great story-line, providing lots of potentially vituperative and nasty scenes. This book has lots of good people in, and the label owner, a real unpleasant greedy controlling man, isn't actually in this novel, we just hear about him.
I'd like to see some nasties - him or some like him - in later books to provide a balance to all the good characters in this one.

Overall an excellent first book and I look forward to more.

Stars: Four, a really interesting read, with lots of emotion and drama.

4.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars Kendrick Main has pretty much hit rock bottom 19 April 2017

Kendrick Main has pretty much hit rock bottom. He is currently attending AA meetings after trying to chase down his "secret" wife Eliza while drunk after he quit Four Main, the rock band he was in with his brother Kipton and two cousins, Mark and Mike.

Kendrick was trying to follow the rules that were set out for him by Dick Landry, the owner of Serpent Records but he finally had enough. When his actions cost him his wife and children he vows to clean up and make things right again.

Will Kendrick be able to get his life cleaned up and follow the rules set out for him by escaping his record contract or will he get pushed down further by the one man who has set out to destroy him and everyone he loves?

I enjoyed this book although at times I did find it a little slow moving at the beginning and at various times within the book.

I liked the premise behind the story and I really enjoyed seeing Kendrick fight for what was important to him. I was a little surprised that Kendrick and his group let themselves

be controlled so much by their contract but at the same time when they were starting out I'm sure all they wanted to do was sing. I also found it odd that only he got out of the contract so the rest of them were still members of Four Main.

I enjoyed the love story between Eliza and Kendrick and how neither of them wanted to give up on them but Eliza was definitely putting a hold on their relationship until Kendrick sorted everything out. I found that part a little frustrating as it was obvious that he needed a little help with sorting out what was going on inside of his head.

I really enjoyed the rest of the members of the band and hearing how they were each manipulated by Dick and their contract. I am still super curious on who Sammi is involved in as I thought I had an idea but now I am not so sure.

I liked how Kendrick was able to reach his fans through music with Eliza's help and how he was able to get his story out there on what he was really going through. I am looking forward to the next story in the series- Rebecca

Rock star Kendrick Main thought he was living the dream, until the price became too high, and he lost it all in the bottom of a bottle. He has nothing else to lose, so he gave it all up and walked away, in order to get his wife and kids back. Lost and penniless, he has a huge list of things he needs to right while trying to stay off the sauce. That's all I'm giving up, but know this, there is so much more to this story, and I don't want to shout out spoilers. HOLY AWESOME BATMAN! Interlude is a story that I never saw coming, and I was amazed, especially when I read at the end, that this is Kay Halliday's first book! I'm so glad that she's brought her talented writing style to the light, as I was instantly fully captivated from the very beginning. Plot was original, with a fast paced storyline that kept me turning the pages quickly. Kendrick was a realistic character that had me physically feeling his pain, and guilt, especially with his cravings, and panic attacks. It was especially refreshing to read about a rock god who didn't cheat on his wife, so no evil female adding to the chaos. The scenes with his band/family made for some great well placed humor that had me laughing in between leaky eyes. I'm so glad that I got to read a new talent, and cannot wait to see what she comes out with next! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this amazing debut!
5.0 out of 5 stars ... the debut book by this author and it didn't disappoint, I couldn't put it down 20 April 2017

Interlude is the debut book by this author and it didn't disappoint, I couldn't put it down. This book focuses on Kendrick the lead singer of the band Fourmain, his family and friends and what happens on the flip side of fame. I loved how all throughout his journey Kendrick never faulted from his path and that was the need for truth and to get his family back and the only way he can do this is be like a Phoenix and hit rock bottom and then rises from the ashes. I felt like I was on the sidelines in a cheerleading uniform cheering them on at every turn.
I found the story engaging and well developed and it just flowed right off the page. I loved all the secondary characters and how they all interacted and I'm rather curious about the other band members.
This is a story of second chances, love, truth, revenge and learning to live again and I can't wait to see what the author has in store for the rest of the guys.
