Behind Closed Doors is a romance, thriller, mystery, and suspense all rolled into one! This book has something for everyone; you will NOT want to miss this one. I especially recommend this book and series to anyone who enjoys a good romantic suspense!

The characters were complex and mostly likable, although I found myself constantly suspicious of the secondary characters. Jason "Red Bull" Wise is a famous professional millionaire poker player with a silver tongue. Skye is a waitress working two jobs in hopes of being able to save enough for law school some day, and I related to her instantly. They meet by chance after Skye wins a storage auction and they become entangled in a blackmail scheme together. Can two strangers trust each other and work together to end the blackmail?

The plot was steady, with a lot of action and suspense; it held my attention from the start. I liked the way the story built up and didn't feel rushed or completely predictable. The intimate scenes were steamy but also heart melting.

This my first book by Lisa Renee Jones, and I was impressed. I read the book as a standalone and found it easy to follow and very enjoyable. The inside of the book does mention that this book has ties to the Careless Whispers series and the Inside Out series, so I will definitely be looking those up ASAP!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mystery, intrigue and a sexy romance in the professional poker arena… 17 October 2016

This is a stand-alone with tie-ins to the Inside Out and Careless Whisper series.

Skye Montgomery has a plan that will get her the much needed funds for law school. Letting her new friend Ella talk her into auction hunting as a way to make that happen sooner, she now regrets having done so. Spending more money than she’d intended there is nothing inside the unit but a key to a bus station locker which contained a note and a high value poker chip. The note, which is worrisome, seals her decision to take what she found to the police the next day, but before she can do so, a sexy poker player, a man who’d also been at the auction confronts her in her home, and accuses her of aiding his blackmailer. What has she inadvertently gotten herself into? Why does Trouble, as she’s named the gorgeous man, have to be so damn sexy? She doesn’t need his kind of temptation but being the fair person that she is, she’ll hear him out and pray she isn’t making a mistake.

On the trail of the woman who is blackmailing him, Jason “Red Bull” Wise watched the property of the woman he’s seeking being auctioned off to Skye hoping the buyer will lead him to his prey. His instincts at reading people tell him she’s innocent of involvement when he confronts her but he needs access to the storage unit which she’s not willing to give a stranger making demands even if he is a celebrity on the poker circuit. He’ll have to prove his allegations against the owner of the unit and earn Skye’s trust to get her assistance. There is something about the beautiful Skye that makes him break his rules, the chemistry between them is palpable to both of them and he invites her to a tournament in Las Vegas.

Skye hasn’t had an easy life, her hardships have defined her and trust is not easy to give but the more time she spends with Jason she sees that he’s a good man in a precarious situation. Jason is not one for commitments but he wants more than a weekend with Skye to see where what they have can go. As the game gets more dangerous Skye’s put at risk just for her association with him and the need to find the blackmailer becomes urgent, but who really is the blackmailer? Is he friend or foe?

This was a highly enjoyable read, though not as dark as some of the author’s other series the storyline was quite seductive, there’s mystery, intrigue and a sexy romance in the professional poker arena. The main characters are quite likable, it was easy to become invested in their outcome. Jason is charming and protective, patient and understanding yet he exudes confidence even when he doesn’t feel it, you can never let them see you blink in poker or blackmail. Skye is smart and feisty, totally dedicated to her goals but a bit repressed, meeting Jason lets her wild side come out to play. Though physically attracted to each other quickly their relationship develops to more at a nice pace. The story is told in Skye’s point of view but there were times that this reader wished that Jason’s thoughts had also been included.

Those who have read the Inside Out and Careless Whisper series will understand the significance of some scenes that are shown here. Have you ever wondered how Ella obtained the seductive journals that sent Sara McMillan on a journey that would change her world? And who really is Ella? She’s one person in the Inside Out series and a different one in the Careless Whisper series. Here we are given a glimpse into another aspect of the woman that her later amnesia in Europe caused her to forget.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great book! 18 October 2016
By Felicia Eddy - Published on Amazon.com

This books was fun and exciting from begining to end - something I have come to expect from Lisa Renee Jones. I am so glad I was not disappointed.

Skye has a plan - working 2 jobs to save money to go to law school. When her friend Ella (yes Ella from the Careless Whisper series, so good!) talks her into going to a storage room auction she stumbles on something that is definitely not part of her plan - namely poker player Jason "Red Bull" Wise and from their the adventure starts.

Jason is trying to get his life back - someone is blackmailing him and he needs whats in the storage unit that Skye just purchased. Mistakenly thinking Skye may know what the people behind the blackmail plot he tracks her down. Once he figures out that she is not involved Jason and Skye start to work together to figure out what is going on. From San Franscisco to Las Vegas can Jason and Skye learn to trust each other to find out whats going on?

I really enjoyed this story - especially the first 3/4 of the story. The build up between the two characters was fantastic and I loved them together. The introduction of Ella - someone I have grown to love from the Careless Whisper series was fantastic! Since this is prelude to that series we finally get to see what a bad ass she really is. That being said this is definitely Skye and Jason's story. Loved the dialog throughout the book, the scenes in Las Vegas were also fantastic. I felt like I was there. If I had one issue - the ending seemed to wrapup a little to quickly for me.

All in all another great story from this fantastic author!

5.0 out of 5 stars FULL SIZE NOVEL - A little insight as to who Ella (from the Inside Out and Careless Whispers series) really is... 18 October 2016

This is a FULL SIZE NOVEL and a spin-off from Lisa Renee Jones' Inside Out and Careless Whispers series. It can be read without reading the other series, but I highly suggest you read those as they are wonderful stories. This story is about Ella's friend, Skye, and Jason, a famous poker player. I really enjoyed reading this story. I won't give anything away, but I do have to say I loved the scene with Ella going into Skye's house to retrieve the poker chip. At this point, you get a little insight as to who Ella really is and what she's capable of doing. I actually laughed out loud and had to explain it to my husband who looks at me and says "what's so funny?"

I voluntarily provided my honest review from an advance copy of the book that I received from the publisher and author.
3.0 out of 5 stars Great series ... that piddled out at the end. 10 June 2017

I hate to invest so much time into a series that is going great until very near the ending it feels like the writer just gave up and wrapped it all up as fast as possible just to have it finished. That's exactly what the end of this was like for me.

From the very beginning we're wondering about Stephanie and what happened to her, why she's black mailing Jason? The whole book goes into depth about this while Skye and Jason start to form a relationship.

We're following right along with their relationship as it grows and still wondering what's going on with the blackmailing.

Ella is even brought into the story. Why wasn't Skye more interested or adamant that she get more answers from Ella? I mean Ella hooked them up with the mob to help get answers for Gods sake! How does a school teacher have those connections and why isn't ANYONE asking about them?!?

I wasn't surprised when we learn who the other blackmailer is. But there is no explanation of WHY! None! Only about 2 sentences worth of an explanation. And oh by the way, Skye is moving in with Jason and getting married. The end.

There you go. No need to read the series. That's how it ends. There's really no other answers anyway so why waste your time on the series?!?
5.0 out of 5 stars Could it be fate? 19 October 2016

Skye Montgomery is trying to make it on her own, she is running from something or someone. When her new friend, Ella suggests that she buy a storage unit, so that maybe she could give up one of the two jobs she has. Skye is determined to become a lawyer, but she wants to pay for it on her own. We were introduced to Ella first in the Inside Out series, and later in the Careless Whispers series where she has amnesia, we find out who she really is. Skye buys her first locker, she doesn't find anything of value, she gathers the papers that she finds and is taking them to the office but the office is closed. As Skye is trying to lock up the unit, a man appears and scares her. This man turns out to be Jason who is being blackmailed by the owner of the unit. Skye takes the box of papers home and goes through them where she finds a key and the mystery begins.

Lisa Renee Jones has done it again! Another 5 star read

I received an ARC from NetGalley for my voluntary review.
