Tenley is back. She’s back and so is the drama. She was hoping she left all that behind with Trey but that bitch Sienna just has to push the point. This was not the reunion of Tenley and Hayden I was expecting be it very fitting.
So they are both still wanting to be together (yaa) but they are both so broken and burned from when Tenley left that they are just not sure on how to proceed (nooooo!). Hayden and Tenley are on tender hooks. His abandonment issues coupled with her guilt and feeling of worthlessness make for a heartbreaking read. I’m not one for spoilers but there was a part of this book where I was certain they were going to part ways. I could feel my heart breaking for them both. Found myself willing them to ‘see it through, get therapy, try and work it out guys’.
I love the tenacity of Tenley. She has been to hell and back and when Hayden is putting his thoughts of her out there, she knows, she knows she has a winner in him. And Hayden’s story is heartbreaking, thankfully there is closure and answers but I can’t help but feel like he’s a better man for having gone through all the crap and heartache and horribleness. His life would have been a very different one had his parents not been murdered. There are things within Hayden that will never be fixed but that’s what makes him so unique and relatable. He is Tenley’s yin to her yang. They truly do complete each other and this is a love story like no other.
The quote on the front says this story is emotional, sexy and captivating and that is the honest to God truth. Gotta hand it to Hunting, she writes a bloody good read and I starting to really slow my reading down towards the end because I just didn’t want it to end. I’m not ready to say goodbye to Hayden or Tenley (or Chris and Sarah or Cassie and Nate!)
This series has to be one of my favourite reads and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kittens, Cup Cakes, Tattoos and Piercings... Oh My!!! 15 May 2014

This book is very dear to my heart, Helena Hunting has come a long way since Fan Fiction and weekly updates. I can't express how proud I am of her!

Inked Armor is the second installment of the Clipped Wings Series. This time around it's a lot more emotional between Hayden and Tenley because their feeling are striped bare with everything out in the open.

Because of Tenley's abrupter leaving, Hayden's nightmares of his parents murder come back full force and has him feeling empty and devastated. Their separation isn't to long, but there are lots of trials and tribulations on getting their relationship back.

Hayden doesn't trust that Tenley won't run away again and she has to face the fact that she deserves his love and will help him see that he can trust her again. As if that isn't enough, all of Hayden's nightmares from his parents being murdered are resurfacing, and begins to question everything. They go through so much emotional pain and come out of this storm together.

Helena Hunting writes this beautiful story on heart break, devastation, tragedy, trust issues, love and learning to cope to move on. You will fall in love with Hayden and Tenley all over again and let's not forget you will also crave cupcakes through out this book. :D

This book is a MUST READ! If you love anything with tattoos, piercings, kittens, angst, smut and cupcakes then this is your book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional Roller Coaster! 21 December 2016

This book is intense, emotional, heart-wrenching, romantic, and ultimately very satisfying. This one continues the story of Tenley and Hayden begun in Clipped Wings. Both of them were/are still trying to find their way after tragedies rocked them to the core in their pasts. Tenley's trauma was more recent and she lost more people, friends and her entire family, than Hayden. Hayden's parents were murdered years ago and while he has overcome his drug/addiction problem in the aftermath and managed to establish a successful and satisfying tattoo parlor with his best friends, he still hasn't been able to reconcile the guilt he feels or have a meaningful relationship. In order to function, he became compulsive about everything being neat, organized, and in its proper place because he needed the routine and control. Despite their pasts, he and Tenley developed a fragile emotional connection that was a balm for both of them. When Tenley abruptly returns to her hometown after the unexpected appearance of her (almost) brother-in-law and all contact between Hayden and her is severed, Hayden is an emotional wreck. I admit that I was very disappointed with Tenley when she just walked away from him like that. She did need to resolve some issues at home, but she should've explained the situation to Hayden before she left and kept in touch with him until she returned. The mystery surrounding the unsolved murder of Hayden's parents is finally resolved, and Hayden and Tenley finally achieve their HEA (Happily Ever After). This one is highly recommended.

Some reviewers liked this book less than the previous book and while I don't agree, I can see why. Inked Armour doesn't start well. For reasons that didn't make a whole lot of sense Tenley has left Chicago with her brother-in-law to be and gone back to her home town. She stays there for three weeks and never responds to Haden's frantic calls, but she does manage to find time to correspond with the female members of their little group leaving Haden feeling justifiably betrayed.

Haden has completely fallen apart. The stress of Tenley leaving him opens the floodgates to his unresolved feelings about his parents' murder. One night after a particularly traumatic dream of Tenley lying in bed with a bullet hole in her chest Haden calls Tenley. Groggy from sleep she picks up the phone and is basically surprised that her actions affected him. ????? How do you leave your boyfriend and not think that will affect him? She runs a few errands and then drives to Chicago that night. Instead of going directly to him even though he's in such a mess she tries to find her female friend who has a key to her apartment so she can sleep before talking to Haden (knowing that he has nightmares that are crushing him). Haden also has a key. The friend doesn't pick up her calls so Tenley goes to the strip club where the friend works and runs into Haden's longtime f-buddy who wants him back. Despite feeling she has to drop everything to get to him she manages to do several errands back home and chase her friend around for a while. It's a lot of dumb plot mechanisms to create strife.

The saving grace for me is that Tenley has destroyed Haden's trust in her and he doesn't let her off easily. She does a fair amount of groveling and their relationship takes time to repair. Once again, we experience this through the characters thanks to the first person point of view of each of them.

This book is mostly about Haden finally dealing with his parents' deaths and I found that very interesting.

One thing really bothered me, though. Love is described as "This is what love felt like - this unyielding, overwhelming need for someone that wiped out everything else." THIS IS UNREALISTIC. LOVE IS DIFFERENT FOR EVERYONE. I know people who are denying themselves love because no matter what they feel for a person, unless it falls under this exact description it must not be true love, which is really sad. People, Inked Armour's description of love is artistic license - the hyperreality of romance novels. I love my husband more than anything and ours is a quiet happiness that we can dip into to feel strong and it helps us deal with the things life throws at us. Your experience with love can be the same as in this book, but it probably won't be because you're not fictional and because you and your partner aren't Tenley and Haden.

Now that I've gotten that off my chest, I do want to say that I liked this book. There is another short story about two of the other characters, but I'm going to skip it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Conclusion! 8 January 2015

Inked Armor begins where Clipped Wings ended and I was eager to finish the story.

Hayden and Tenley's are not together but, they still think about each other. Tenley hopes Hayden will want her when she comes back. Hayden thinks she doesn't want him and it's over. Is it?

With an ex from hell that never was more than a release, the cop with an attitude and the "brother-in law" that makes you want to punch him, Hayden and Tenley don't have things easy. This story continues to have the angst, tenderness, and love with characters we hate, characters we love and closure at the end.

I enjoyed the writing style of this author and couldn't put it down. I wish it was a little longer but then, don't we all wish that when we read a really good story?

4.0 out of 5 stars In Review: Inked Armor (Clipped Wings #2) by Helena Hunting 8 June 2014

Ooooh boy. Inked Armor was a roller coaster ride with a ton of feels and emotions. Hayden and Tenley are deeply in love, but separated after Tenley leaves to try to wrap up her estate and issues with her jerk (almost) brother-in-law. She's completely torn because she doesn't believe she deserves Hayden and guilty with the realization that losing all the people close to her led her to find this man who is so obviously the love of her life. I could feel her emotions in the words and thoughts of her character. That's how good Helena's writing is. I wasn't just reading it. I was living it.

Hayden is a bit of a mess in this book, but it's completely understandable. He's lost Tenley. Not only is he having nightmares about the murder of his parents again, but now Tenley is prominently featured in them. After one particularly bad night, he reaches out to her again and she returns. They set about trying to fix their relationship – and themselves. It's not an easy road, but they're traveling it together with the realization that even though they love each other, they're going to have to fight to stay together.

Inked Armor had it all. It was an unflinchingly honest look at a relationship between two characters with a lot of baggage. After awhile you begin to wonder if love would be enough to make this relationship work. It was angsty, but I didn't think it was overly so. There were quite a few seriously sexy moments and some suspenseful ones as Hayden and Tenley started to reevaluate what happened the night of Hayden's parents' deaths, thinking answers will help lay some of the nightmares to rest.

I loved these characters and felt their emotions so strongly as I was reading this book. Tenley is so strong, but still so vulnerable. Hayden looks like the stereotypical pierced and tatted bad boy on the outside, but there is so much more to him underneath. They were both so complex and so broken. My heart broke for both of them during this book. But, by the end, secrets had been revealed, the characters had grown tremendously and everything was right with the world.

Helena is two for two with me. Her books have ripped my heart out and put it back together. I love her writing style and I can't wait to read more from her in the future... starting with the novellas in this series. After that, I'll be stalking her Goodreads author page looking for upcoming releases.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
