Product Description

Athena Harrow is about to turn twenty-one, but there will be no celebration. What is there to celebrate when the world is ruled by demons?

She hates the darkness the demons brought with them and longs for the light to return to the world—a world she only vaguely remembers. The people in her forest village blindly accept the life the demons forced upon them, even tolerating the yearly ascension ceremony where all the girls who have turned twenty-one are either sent away to serve the Master Demon or left in the village and forced to procreate.

But Paymon, the assigned village demon, selects a different role for Athena, a role that pits her against the village. While she adapts to her new life, Erebus, a younger, more powerful demon, arrives, and Athena must play a dangerous game with his emotions in return for information about the demon’s reign of darkness.

As Athena’s dreams of restoring the light begin to fade, her life with Erebus takes an unexpected turn, and this time it’s her life being put to the test.

Set in the forest around Buttercrambe in North Yorkshire, England, INIQUITY explores the frightening, darker side of romance and the uncontrolled emotions it can unleash.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it in ONE day! Couldn’t put it down. 26 October 2016
By C.C. Dowling - Published on Amazon.com

As the title of this review says, I read Iniquity in one day. I couldn’t… wouldn’t… refused to put it down until the last sentence was read. That kind of voracious, page-turning excitement always deserves 5 stars in my opinion.

Winter does a masterful job at introducing the reader to a world ruled by demons and darkness. She does an even better job of making the reader simultaneously hate and love demons through the eyes of the main heroine, Athena Harrow. And just as you’d expect with demons, nothing is as it seems.

For the rest of the review, there will be spoilers…

What I really loved about the book was how we really get to know Athena. A child of 8 when the light was taken from the world, she is determined to get it back. Through her, we get a feel for what life is like. How dangerous and depressing it can be. And how humanity still clings to hope even though they’re subjugated to the whims of demons.

Winter creates a rich and realized world where even the demons have a hierarchal society. They answer to the Master. And the Master demands young girls. Lots of them. Athena is on the verge of her 21st birthday, the age where all girls are assigned a designation by the demons who rule them. Some go to the Master and are never seen again. Some stay in the village and must breed the new batch of children.

What drives the story, and forced me to turn page after page, is Athena’s thirst to discover how to bring back the light, all while surviving her demon husband and dealing with the betrayal of her lifelong friends. When Athena discovers that demons are more than the monsters she thought they were, her relationship with Erebus goes from frigid, to room temperature, to steamy sauna. The romance and sex scenes are HOT, and the reader is drawn in to the experience with emotion.

The book leaves off at a perfect set up for the following novels in the series. Athena discovers how the darkness is controlled. The budding romance between Athena and Eribus causes a power struggle in the demon community. And Athena attracts the unwanted attention of the Master.

I absolutely loved Iniquity. Read it, and you’ll love it too. Then we can all wait not-so-patiently for the next installment.
5.0 out of 5 stars Suspensful with twists and a new way to view some Demons. 26 October 2016

I've read everything Melody has written and she keeps on surprising me with how complex and wonderful her imagination is. Once again she brings a new world. A Dark world filled with suspense and surprises and many emotions from Fear to Love. You won't be bored or disappointment with the journey she takes you on.
I love a good bad boy and the demon Erebus fits the bill. I couldn't read fast enough to see if Athena had the power to tame this demon and see if they are capable of love. A true paradox given the character. I got so caught up in this story I read it in a few short days. I can't wait for the next installment to come out so I can see what happens to Athena and Erebus.
5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, gritty, perfect! 7 June 2017

Oh my oh my oh my. I could kick myself for not reading this book a lot earlier. What a waste of time!

Iniquity was a gritty distopian novel full of magic, darkness and angst, a cruel and dreary world ruled by power-hungry demons and infested with blood-thirsty monsters. The few people who survived The Ascent 13 years ago now live in small villages scattered all over the world, oppressed by Valafar, the Master, and his fellow demons who feed from their victims' emotions.
The story follows Athena, who, on her 21st birthday, is faced with the decision to either be sent to the Master's in order to become his new wife and bear his child and possibly die in the process, or marry Paymon, the cruel and feared village demon who killed her grandmother, her only family left, when she was still a teenager. Her decision will change her hopeless yet familiar life forever and send her on a journey where she's confronted with new dangers, revelations, unexpected kindness and, eventually, even love.

Melody Winter has got one hell of a knack for creating unique and unforgettable characters, something I've already noticed when I read her The Mine series one and a half years back. While I love her strong yet compassionate heroines and couldn't wish for a more pleasant voice, it always seems to be her villains that totally steal the show.
Just like Orontes from The Mine, Paymon and Erebus were such intriguing, complex and inscrutable characters, and I couldn't get enough of any of them. The thing about Winter's male characters is that every villain has the potential to be a love interest, and every love interest has the potential to be the villain. It's amazing and fascinating, and it'll keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire book.
Add to that the original and gloomy world building, beautiful writing and a multi-layered storyline with countless surprising twists and turns, and you'll have one hell of an emotional rollercoaster ride.

This was such an amazing and memorable read, and I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel.

This book is amazing! Really I mean truly extremely amazing.
This is a paranormal romance and not an ordinary one. The
premise is truly unique. She has set this at the worlds end
when hell has risen and now is a part of our world. And when
you find out how it happened you may just sit there and
wonder. Could this really actually be happening in our world.
It’s all the little signs. I’d list them but that would give too
much away. I will warn you there were times I was as angry
as Athena at the demons. And then there was this nice one
And as we got to know him. Maybe even like him, or at least
she cared about him and his pet Raven. Odian is a wonderful
bird. And a friend to Athena. he is her true friend in all of this.
and when the nice demon died I literally cried over it. he was such a sweet guy he even grew roses for her. I actually am
misty eyed now as I write this. Just as you get used to the
Paymon and how he is. Then there is Erebus. The demon
is such an ass but as things progresses he is actually not as
bad as he seems. Even Athena seems to be falling for him.
She keeps fighting it. But when things take a bad turn she
finally see that what she feels is real and not the demons
controlling her. But now she just hopes he can save her in time. This book has a secret book that leads to something
Very enlightning. And when you find out you will
understand a lot of things. I am so ready for book two.
Bring it on Melody, I will be waiting.

Now before I ruin this for you I will leave off here. I hope you
enjoy this book as much as I did. If you do like this book,
please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like it
when you do; they value your opinions too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful and Full of Emotion 30 October 2016
By Lady with a Quill - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Wow, I am so impressed by this book! The world building was done so well, and you could really tell the author knew what she was doing when she plotted the storyline. It was suspenseful, exciting, and so full of emotion that I think I ran the gamut in the day it took me to read Iniquity.

The year is 2056. It has been 13 years since the demons ascended, and since that time, every land has been covered in darkness, with nary a sunbeam to be found. Athena has known little else but her small village in England. She has awaited her 21st birthday with dread, knowing that it is when she will be told if she must go to work in the Master demon's home. However, the day before her ceremony, she is called upon by the village demon with a proposition. If she accepts, she will have to leave behind the love of a man and join hands with a demon, making her a pariah in the community. If she doesn't accept, however, it could mean certain disaster for both her and the village. Athena's decision takes her on a journey where love knows no bounds and sudden loss leads to an even greater gain.

Athena was a relatable, intriguing character from the beginning. She had such courage and strength, but at the same time, her youth created a headstrong manner that got her into trouble often. I knew pretty quickly where the story was headed, but it threw me for a loop with the two main demons, Paymon and Erebus. Both pissed me off heartily in the beginning, and Erebus' behavior almost prompted me to put the book down. However, I am so glad I stuck with it, because both characters got better over time. And I was pleasantly surprised by the hidden aspects of their personalities that surfaced when they were most vulnerable. It makes you realize that what someone presents on the outside is not always who they truly are on the inside.

The book does end on a cliffhanger, so unfortunately, I have to wait for the next book to arrive to find out what happens next. Oh, the torture! But I know it will be wonderful. Melody Winter is a superb writer, with a talent rivaling Sarah Maas in her world building and romance. If you read Sarah's books, you'll love this!
