Product Description

As the son of an Irish mobster, Connor O’Neil spent his boyhood hiding from the horrors of his own home. His one reprieve was a girl he knew only as Evelyn, but even she was taken away. As a man, Connor is determined to stay away from his father’s business. With Sean, participation is not a request, but a demand. The truth is, Connor might be more like the evil he’s trying to hide away from than he would like to admit.

And he’s already spent years trying to cover the scars left over from the pain.

A chance encounter puts the lost girl from his past back on his path, and he no longer has a choice but to face the darkness he’s been ignoring for years.

Evelyn. Sasha. Slave.

She doesn’t really know who she is anymore.

Or maybe she does, and she doesn’t want to tell.

She isn’t the same as she once was—now a thing to be kept and maintained, shuffled from owner to owner until it was her time to go. She only became Connor’s because he took her when he knew she wasn’t his to take.

Except she isn’t Connor’s at all …

And he can’t keep her hidden forever.

~Inflict is a Standalone Romance with graphic depictions of violence, sexual scenes, dark elements and a HEA. It is not recommended for those under the age of 18.

An Irish mafia romance. A story so well written as it is laced with the pain and agony of Connor and Evelyn that it made my heart hurt. Lifestyles most would not understand. It is a story that a reader needs to read to feel the emotions. Two separate souls both inflicted with pain in different ways. It is heartbreaking to read the horrors Connor endures his whole life mentally and physically by his father. Where a father should have love for Connor there was only hurt. An evil he never wanted.

"This was why he wore his mask, why he pretended he was so different from his father, and why he never cared to reflect on the image staring back at him when he cared to pay it any attention. A monster stared back."

Evelyn endures a different type of pain. A pain endured at the hands of men. Ironically it is a man who can help her save her. Although, he is just as scarred. Can they be together to heal?

"He didn’t pull away until his lungs started to burn, struggling for a proper breath, because all things were lost when it was just Connor and Evelyn. Him and her."

Absolute must read. Thank you, Bethany-Kris. The authentic Irish language and background is incredible. I can't wait for more.

Connor and Evelyn's story can only be describe as a dark disturbingly bittersweet love story!

Inflict is a stand-alone criminal romance novel about two young individuals, Connor O'Neil and Evelyn at a young age embark on a journey that can only be describe as freaking horrible. We are introduced to Connor's father Sean O'Neil brother to Boss (Evelyn adopted father) of the Irish Mob organisation. Being unwanted is not the only hard emotion Connor endures growing up in this family household, but being brutally abused, tortured and learnt to torture innocent creatures are just among some of the things Connor is required to grow accustomed to by his father orders.

Evelyn, purely sweet and lives with a loving father (The Boss) who will do just about anything to protect her. One night, a horrendous event occurs to Evelyn and the story fast forwards to where we are then introduced to 'Sasha' Evelyn new identity.

The story is narrated is Connor point of view which is great seeing it "from his side" but set at a very slow pace. I personally found this story just too dark and emotionally distrubing that i was cringing throughout when the storyline unfolded with certain events.

Bethany Kris has an imagination out of this world, which makes her style of writing brilliant and to be able to feel multiple different emotions is just astonishing.

You'll find yourself thinking and talking with Irish slang for days after you finish this book.

This is a stand-alone romance that follows Connor and Evelyn through their journey. We meet them both as young children and follow them as children for a short while before seeing them in adulthood.

Connor O'Neil is a dangerous man, the kind of dangerous that's not often spoken of. He's charming and you can fall in love with him without even thinking about it. Just don't be the one to underestimate him, and then cross him. You'll be in for a bad time. He deserves Evelyn in every way, they are the couple you care about, the couple you wish for. They're not your regular book couple, they've grown up in things I dare not imagine and been through things you wouldn't wish upon your enemies (well i would but i'm a horrible person).

There is a beautiful story in this book, strong characters and it's easy to forget sometime that Bethany Kris brought this story out of her mind. It's a book well worth reading if you love organized crime romance.

Inflict by Bethany-Kris
4.5 stars!!!

“Only the bloodiest ones wear the crown.”

I have read a lot of books by Bethany-Kris, she has fast become one of my go to mafia authors and Inflict was another great addition. Inflict is a standalone and delves into the side of the Irish Mafia in America and I have to say I absolutely loved the Irish brogue throughout this book, it was fecking brilliant!

“Full circle. Life was just making its rounds again.”

Connor and Evelyn were neighbours as kids and despite being kept in solitude they managed to find one and other and forge a friendship. Connor was the son of an Irish mob boss called Sean and while this should come with affluence and pretension the only thing Connor knew was punishment and repugnance. Connor’s mum had died when he was a new-born and his father’s wrath and ire was the only thing he knew and he never knew why. Connor tried to stay out of his father’s way, yet he was always found and everything he liked or loved was always taken away…including Evelyn.

Now an adult, Connor is still the prodigal son and he tries to keep as far away from his father’s hand as he can but their paths cross at least once a week, much to Connor’s chagrin. Connor’s upbringing has left him extremely broken and constantly fretting that he is his father’s son, his penchant for knives and bare knuckle fighting goes some ways in which to channel his anger, but he is still one of his father’s henchman whether he wants to or not.

“Connor was no better than this father underneath the mask he wore. Sean was simply more liable to take his mask off, and show the world his truths, while he laughed in their faces and enjoyed every moment of it.”

On one such job, Connor got a lot more than he bargained for and one that would change his life forever. Evelyn lost her life as she knew it the same night that Connor lost his best friend and when their paths cross in the unlikeliest of circumstances Connor is about to take on the biggest fight of his life and it will take more than knives and bare knuckles.

“Learn to trust someone other than yourself.”

Connor and Evelyn were a great couple, both broken by their lives yet could always seek solitude in each other. Both from similar backgrounds and yet their lives growing up couldn’t be any more different. Life has marred their souls and it seems life isn’t finished with them yet. Connor lost her once and he will fight every one his way to keep her, even if that means going up against the man he despises the most…his father.

“Some monsters needed to stay sleeping. Sean was one of those.”

Bethany-Kris delivers an honest and heartfelt read with Inflict. The character connection was spot on and you couldn’t help but take Connor and Evelyn into your heart and soul. Yes, both characters have their flaws and are deeply scarred, but it is these scars that give them their strength. Connor is no angel, in the life he has lived, he couldn’t not be, but he is as far from his father’s son as he could be. Connor had a heart, something his father definitely lacked and when that heart starts beating once again when he finds Evelyn, you finally get to see the real Connor underneath…he finally had something to live and fight for.

“It was cause and effect. Create pain to destroy pain. Create scars to hide scars. Cut in, bleed out. Breathe in, breathe out.”

This book was highly addicting and unputdownable. As I said above, the Irish brogue was extremely well done and makes that character connection all the more palpable as this strong Irish man wheedles his way into your heart. I loved the world that Bethany-Kris created and I adored Connor’s best friend, Killian, he was a great addition to this story. While Bethany-Kris is not a standalone author, she definitely gives the reader enough, no stones unturned and all answers given. Loved, loved, loved this book.

“…but he loved her, so he gave her whatever the feck her black heart desired. After all, it made his black heart keep beating.”

Excellent Irish mafia story by Bethany-Kris who is well known for her Russian Bratva and other mafia books but I think this is her first book on Irish mafia as far as I know. The story is about Connor O'Neil son of the head of the local Irish mafia who as a child played with the little girl (Evelyn) next door who was the daughter of the Boss(Declan) in the organization. Connor's father (Sean) is a sadistic evil sociopath who trafficked women and brought many home as sexual slaves over the years until each one disappeared suddenly in the night to be replaced by a new younger one each time Sean who loves no one even his only child would inflict horrible punishments on Connor starting before he was even five years old. Evelyn's childhood was good until she was around six then everything dramatically changed one night at which point her life became completely horrendous. Others in control of her would inflict their demands upon her including what name she would be called, what she eat, if she would eat, what she would wear, and even worse things they would require she do and they would do to her including beatings and so much worse. This is their story and it is a very dark story but as you read you can only hope there is light at the end of the tunnel for two deserving individuals. Great story I found myself quickly turning paqes hoping desperately for a HEA. Thanks for another great one Kris. Your books are usually located in my favorite's collection to be read over and over again and this will be no exception.

5.0 out of 5 stars Conner is so YUMMY!!!! 3 April 2017

This story is definitely one for the books! I admit I love Bethany and her writing style. I love every book I've read by Bethany. But this woman has outdone herself! She has completely gone in another direction and not only NAILED it, but beat the brakes off every expectation I had!

Conner is the epitome of damaged. His childhood is horror incarnate. I walked away several times. BK offers a detailed and complex look into how Conner's childhood shaped him as a man. His childhood is detrimental to the story so details are a must. Kudos to BK for the insight! Someone who added some happiness to Conner's childhood reappears out of the clear blue sky and BOOM! Tears all over the place! Good gravy those chapters worked every heart muscle in my chest.

Although mafia (Irish) themed, this story is not the typical BK novel so read with caution. There are some themes that may be triggers for sensitive readers. Although I adore every novel I've read, Inflict spanked ass all over my BK stash!

Five fabulous stars!

So first let me say, that this was definitely not the norm for Bethany Kris, it was a lot darker than her other novels. That being said this was totally Bethany Kris, draws you into a story and doesn't let you go until the end. Conner pretty much has a sadist for a father and so he learned at an early age to stay out of the way. He has one friend who disappears in thin air. He finds her years later literally, and they explode off the pages. Connor will do what he has to to protect Evelyn, even if it means taking on something he never wanted. Intrigued, good read the book. FYI, if you're easily offended, I'd download a sample first.
