"This was why he wore his mask, why he pretended he was so different from his father, and why he never cared to reflect on the image staring back at him when he cared to pay it any attention. A monster stared back."
Evelyn endures a different type of pain. A pain endured at the hands of men. Ironically it is a man who can help her save her. Although, he is just as scarred. Can they be together to heal?
"He didn’t pull away until his lungs started to burn, struggling for a proper breath, because all things were lost when it was just Connor and Evelyn. Him and her."
Absolute must read. Thank you, Bethany-Kris. The authentic Irish language and background is incredible. I can't wait for more.
Inflict is a stand-alone criminal romance novel about two young individuals, Connor O'Neil and Evelyn at a young age embark on a journey that can only be describe as freaking horrible. We are introduced to Connor's father Sean O'Neil brother to Boss (Evelyn adopted father) of the Irish Mob organisation. Being unwanted is not the only hard emotion Connor endures growing up in this family household, but being brutally abused, tortured and learnt to torture innocent creatures are just among some of the things Connor is required to grow accustomed to by his father orders.
Evelyn, purely sweet and lives with a loving father (The Boss) who will do just about anything to protect her. One night, a horrendous event occurs to Evelyn and the story fast forwards to where we are then introduced to 'Sasha' Evelyn new identity.
The story is narrated is Connor point of view which is great seeing it "from his side" but set at a very slow pace. I personally found this story just too dark and emotionally distrubing that i was cringing throughout when the storyline unfolded with certain events.
Bethany Kris has an imagination out of this world, which makes her style of writing brilliant and to be able to feel multiple different emotions is just astonishing.
This is a stand-alone romance that follows Connor and Evelyn through their journey. We meet them both as young children and follow them as children for a short while before seeing them in adulthood.
Connor O'Neil is a dangerous man, the kind of dangerous that's not often spoken of. He's charming and you can fall in love with him without even thinking about it. Just don't be the one to underestimate him, and then cross him. You'll be in for a bad time. He deserves Evelyn in every way, they are the couple you care about, the couple you wish for. They're not your regular book couple, they've grown up in things I dare not imagine and been through things you wouldn't wish upon your enemies (well i would but i'm a horrible person).
There is a beautiful story in this book, strong characters and it's easy to forget sometime that Bethany Kris brought this story out of her mind. It's a book well worth reading if you love organized crime romance.

The story is so very dark, with forced sexual slavery from a young age, multiple examples of physical torture and abuse as well as mental abuse.
I reached 47% and had to walk away from the book because the storyline is so twisted with the ML having full knowledge that his father was a previous owner of the FL and was on the hunt for her.
The lack of moral obligation and action eventually got to me. Maybe there's a HEA at the end but I wasn't willing to take the journey.
As you would expect there are sex scenes, masochistic scenes and swearing.
Not my type of book at all mostly because of the unremitting darkness and the incredibly slow move towards relief and lightness.
The characterisation is okay, the writing style is good, there are no grammatical or editorial errors that I can recall, it's the subject matter that turned my stomach.
Connor is the son of an the Irish mob's boss. He likes some of his duties, but doesn't abide some of his dad's undertakings.
Evelyn was his friend until she disappeared from his life when they were kids.
Whilst on a job, Evelyn is the last person he expects to see, and just like that here she is again. Not the usual reunion. He manages to piece things together, and going against what's expected of him he does what he feels best. From then on, everything takes a dangerous turn. The horrible events that are unearthed are horrific and heartbreaking.
It's full of lies, deceit, cruelty, danger, but love trumps all. It's well paced, and with the dark emotions there are light ones. There is a always light at the end of the tunnel.
The broken souls of the two main characters Connor and Evelyn was heartbreaking, yet so loving and with such empathy between them from childhood into adulthood was truly magnificent prose by this wonderful author. A highly recommended must read of this dark genre.
Connor, son of an Irish Mob boss has been conditioned to keep his emotions to himself from a young age.
While Connor is playing outside one day a little further than he is ment to he meets a little girl with striking green eyes in a pretty dress, they play together until Connors harsh reality and who their fathers are and what they do changes everything and sets them on two different but equally dark paths that leads them back together but who they are may not be the same.
This book will tear your soul apart, make your cry and laugh. Will teach you strength and compassion. How even in the dark a little light can shine the brightest. And sometimes love can concor evil There is just so much in this book I read it twice ! As always Bethany-Kris took me on a journey I'll never forget, her writing will consume you till there are no pages left and you have forgotten the time and what is going on around you. Bethany-Kris one of my Queen's of Mafia Romance ! Thank you for another Amazing Masterpiece
