As their casual fling with no strings attached progresses, it's not long before they realize they're both in way over their heads. One fateful night changes their lives forever in ways they could never have imagined, giving them the push to finally admit that maybe, just maybe they want more than they’ve let on. Their mutual attraction rapidly intensifies as it shifts from burning lust to unrelenting want, need, and possibly even love. Suddenly the idea of settling down doesn't seem so bad. In fact, it sounds pretty damn perfect.

Just when things seem to be falling into place, past pain and renewed insecurities rise to the surface and threaten to smother the flames of their passionate relationship, reminding them both why they’ve always kept the idea of love at arm's length. Will Kale and Lucy realize that what they've been waiting for is each other, or will the blazing whirlwind of their feelings burn out too quickly, causing it to all go up in smoke?

Love, love, loved it. I'm not usually fast when it comes to reading books but being that I purchased my copy on a day when I'm home sick from work, I haven't felt like doing anything else other than read so of course I consumed Kale, hoping he would make me feel better.

While it was Kale and Lucy's story I loved that we got a glimpse of what the other characters have been up to as well although for the moment, I could quite possibly have a new favourite in Kale. Well until Cohen and Xavier.

HASH(0xbad53ec4) out of 5 stars LOVE the Explosive series! 12 May 2014

Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
When Kale Montgomery and Lucy Dawson first met, they were immediately drawn together. Neither one looking for a relationship, they decided no strings attached sex would be PERFECT! That’s right. Friends with benefits - something casual, something fun … something that won’t get messy. Or so they thought.

Let me start off by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed Inflame. It was a cute, funny read that also had its share of heart touching moments.

Kale is the kind of guy that I would want by my side. Was he perfect? No. He certainly had his faults, but he has such a heart of gold that you’re easily able to look past his idiotic moments. To say that I was team Kale would be an understatement. As I was reading this novel, I became protective of him and found myself threatening certain characters with a frying pan to the head if they kept trying to interfere with him and Lucy.

Speaking of Lucy, I love her. I really do. But there were times when I just wanted to tie her down to a chair and smack some sense into her. She’s a really fun, spunky character, and you’re able to see two very different sides to her. I’ll also never look at a scantron test in the same way again.

Though this can be read as a standalone, characters from both Ignite and Incinerate will be present here. You get to see more Jace, Lexi, Knox, and Charlie and I am always so grateful to see more of them! Their friendship with one another is always a highlight and something that I look forward to.

This was a 5 star read for me. I was invested in the story, cared about the characters, and was a tad bit upset when I got to the end because there was nothing left for me to read.

Tessa is definitely growing as an author and it shines through with each new book that she releases. With captivating stories that hold my interest, and characters that are both loveable and unique in their own way, I will continue to buy each book that she writes.

HASH(0xbad53fe4) out of 5 stars another 5 star explosion by Teesa Teevan 12 May 2014

OMG! I have been hounding Tessa for this book for months because she kept teasing us with Kale and Lucy quotes and holy hell this story was worth waiting for. I thought Knox and Charlie were awesome, well they have nothing on Kale and Lucy. Kale is a character you fall in love with straight away and Lucy compliments him in every way, actually they compliment each other perfectly. Not only do we get to go on the journey with Kale and Lucy but we get to check in on the lives of Jace & Lexi and Knox & Charlie and boy do these updates on their lives make me super happy.
Well done Tessa on yet another fantastic story and thanks for giving us these incredible characters to fall in love with.

I received an ARC for an honest review

HASH(0xbad5d900) out of 5 stars 4.5 stars! Kale is another sweet alpha in this series. 12 May 2014
By K. Bias - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Lucy and Kale have been enjoying a friends with benefits situation, but their lives are about to change. As they try to process it, they choose to deal in different ways. We meet up with them in the present and then go back into time to their sweet, but lustful beginning. It was supposed to be just one night, then a summer fling, but it became a solid friendship and passionate affair.

Lucy is a sassy, sarcastic, sexy, and sweet school teacher. Kale is a caring, strong, protective soldier. They quickly become close friends who are also very attracted to each other. But they both have fears, insecurities, and don't want to admit they have feelings.

Their lives keep distance in between them and allow for outside influences to drive even a further wedge between them. But their connection is strong and difficult to break. They go through many stages to get to where they are in the present. And once Kale decides where he really wants them to go then it is full steam ahead. They begin to traverse their new adventure together while trying to figure it all out along the way.

(Quote) She's the remedy I never knew existed, and I'll be damned if I do anything to push her away.

Kale...Another awesome male in this series. He is sweet, caring, protective, and hella sexy. He is such a good friend and partner. He has his own demons and fears, but he always makes Lucy his top priority. But he is also vulnerable and emotional. Scenes with him dealing with his past broke my heart. I really just wanted to hug him. He has to face things he has been avoiding in order to move forward, but opening up old wounds is difficult. But keeping secrets could come back to ruin his present.

(Quote) The thing is that I don't want to let Lucy into that part of my life yet. She's my light. My sunshine. She's the brightest part of my day, and I'm just not ready to invite her into the darkness. In fact, I'm not ready to revisit that part of my life either. I spent years locking it away.

Lucy is one of those heroines that you cannot help but like. She is fun, feisty, but so loving and supportive. She has insecurities, but is not a drama queen. She is confused at times and makes some mistakes, but she learns from them quickly. She takes on challenges like a champ and tried to go with the flow. But when she has to stand up for herself, she is not afraid to do that.

"Your happiness is mine Kale, but more than that, your pain is my pain, too. If you grieve, I grieve with you, no matter the cause. At the same time, when you rejoice, I'm right there jumping up and down with you. But unless you're willing to lay it all out on the line with me, then we'll never be equal partners."

Lucy and Kale together are just a breath of fresh air. They are so cute together even when they are living in denial land. They have such a basis in friendship, a witty rapport, deep connection, and true feelings even when they have trouble admitting it. They are funny, supportive, passionate, and genuine. Sure they both mistakes. They both have pasts and fears to overcome and have to learn to open up and face challenges together. I really enjoyed the friends to lovers to soul mates aspect of their story.

"I put up with you because I love you. Because I want to spend the rest of my life with you. You'll drive me nuts, I'll make you pull your hair out, but at the end of the day, it's you and me, and I wouldn't change it for the world."

There were some surprises and twists that I did not see coming and made me literally gasp at my kindle. The characters are well developed and exhibit times of confusion, sadness, heartbreak, fear, disappointment, but also true joy, laughter, and love. I was rooting for them all the way and feeling the progression of their relationship along with them. It was told in both points of view showing us their innermost thoughts even at times when they had trouble expressing them.

It was wonderful getting more with Jace and Lexi (Ignite) and Knox and Charlie (Incinerate) and seeing more milestones for them. And getting to know his friend Xavier and his daughter, Lily better. Kale's relationship with his god daughter, Lily was so endearing that it just tugged at my heart. He is one of those men that is just meant to be around kids and help them thrive. I also enjoyed both of their quirky families especially his twin sisters, Kalli and Kaylie. They all have such fun banter and were all a big part of this book. There were also some characters causing issues that I wanted to just disappear or smack with my kindle.

We also got a bit with Knox's brothers Cohen and Branson. I am looking forward to the spin off series The Wellingtons with Cohen in Combust and Branson in Conflagration. And want to see more with Xavier, and the twins. And gotta love a double epilogue!

This series is just so engaging. Each book is about a different couple but all of the guys were in the service together and the women/men are friends so they are interconnected stand alones. They all have a different vibe and tone, but are all engaging, humorous, emotional, steamy, and swoony reads. I have come to really love these characters, Tessa Teevan's writing style, and look forward to more from her.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

HASH(0xbad5d7c8) out of 5 stars Another hot soldier! 20 June 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Plot / character development 5.0

Writing / Pacing 4.5

Emotions / Storyline 5.0

Swoon / Romance 5.0

Steam / Sex 4.5

This third installment of the Explosive series bring us the story of Kale Montgomery and Lucy Dawson. Both characters were introduced briefly in the previous book when it alludes to Kale and Lucy having a secret physical relationship which results into an unexpected pregnancy.

Lucy is a 2nd grade teacher who falls, literally, for Kale when he comes to her class as a guest of his goddaughter. The to have an instant chemistry that leads to fun flirting. When Lucy tells Kale she’s not in this for a relationship beyond the bedroom, it’s music to Kale’s ears. Yet slowly, we witness Kale and Lucy’s relationship begin as friends with benefits, grow into best friends, mature into “I more than like you”, and eventually emerge as a true, everlasting love.

What I find so refreshing about this book was the fact that BOTH male and female characters were written with equal strength. Long gone was the stereotypical (in books) soldier being a total man-whore changing his ways thanks to the virginal innocence of the heroine. Kale is a true gentleman who goes above and beyond for those he cares about. I think I feel a bit in love with Kale when he talks about his devotion for his goddaughter. When I read about the past he was keeping hidden, my heart shattered for him. And Lucy...she is strong and determined and is never one to play games. The two truly were a perfect match, as lovers, friends, and a family.

The love scenes were sensual and passionate. The banter between Lucy and Kale - whether is was Kale’s corny vegetation references or Lucy naughty teacher innuendos, I was often laughing out loud at them. It’s been a long time since I have read a novel that felt real - like these two characters could be real people and these are their real issues. My only issue with the book is this - the span of the book takes place over the nine months of Lucy’s pregnancy and at times, it felt like it was taking 9 months to read. I think perhaps because there wasn’t such strong angst or drama, I wasn’t brought to that “OMG I have to stay up all night to see what the hell is going happen” phase.

Overall, this is a great addition to the series. I cannot wait to read more from this author as I have quickly become a fan. I was lucky enough to actually meet Tessa back at an authors even in Cleveland. Even with all the buzz of readers and authors all around, she took time to start a conversation with me. I was having a fan-girl moment and had no idea what to say to the authors. Perhaps she recognized my awkwardness and took pity on me. Either way, she was super friendly and was super happy I had a chance to talk with her about the characters of her previous books. Tessa Teevan is definitely an author to watch and one-click!

HASH(0xbad5d420) out of 5 stars ~ 5 Deliciously Wicked Stars ~ 14 June 2014
By Lexie Sterling - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I just finished reading Inflame by Tessa Teevan and I have to admit, I still get tingly all over just thinking about it.

Kale Montgomery and Lucy Dawson start out as friends with benefits, and if you've read Tessa's previous book Incinerate, you already know some of the juicy details. Lucy and Kale's story is a bit of a love story in reverse. When we meet Lucy, she's already pregnant with Kale's baby, completely in love with Kale, and completely oblivious to his feelings for her. We get a great flashback into the evolution of their relationship (let me tell you, if a hot soldier walked into my workplace and caught me snoozing on my desk I'd fall on my rear too) and then get to tag along for the ride as they settle into solidifying their relationship and becoming parents.

There are some definite aww moments, followed by some seriously sexy stuff. Kale is a laid back, seriously drool worthy guy and it's no wonder Lucy has no issues having fun with him and then keeping him around. That being said, he's got issues (what guy doesn't?) and he chooses to keep them a secret from Lucy, and from us, for a large part of the book. When those issues finally come to a head, we're treated to some serious kick-ass Lucy.

One of my favourite things about Tessa Teevan is that she writes such strong female characters. All of the women in her books know their own minds and what they want. They're intelligent and tough and Lucy is no exception.. When Lucy finds out she's pregnant, she deals with it, when Kale turns into a complete moron, she deals with him in a way that makes you want to give her a high five and then share a drink with her, after she has the baby of course.

If you are looking for a hot read without a lot of bull then I strongly recommend picking up a copy of Infame to read. Get yourself a cool drink and be prepared to have your heart warmed and your panties melted. Like the book says, Kale does a body good.

An early copy of this book was provided to Deliciously Wicked Books by the author for this review.
