Product Description

Easy going soldier Kale Montgomery, a self-proclaimed ladies man, has no plans of settling down, especially not with his best friend- the sexy, sassy schoolteacher Lucy Dawson. Their relationship, though unconventional, is mutually beneficial, and they wouldn't have it any other way. Friends with benefits? Casual lovers? Whatever you want to call it, they’re having fun, in and out of bed, and to them, that’s all that matters. At least that’s what they think, but how long can you spend in someone's bed before you find they're also infiltrating your heart?

As their casual fling with no strings attached progresses, it's not long before they realize they're both in way over their heads. One fateful night changes their lives forever in ways they could never have imagined, giving them the push to finally admit that maybe, just maybe they want more than they’ve let on. Their mutual attraction rapidly intensifies as it shifts from burning lust to unrelenting want, need, and possibly even love. Suddenly the idea of settling down doesn't seem so bad. In fact, it sounds pretty damn perfect.

Just when things seem to be falling into place, past pain and renewed insecurities rise to the surface and threaten to smother the flames of their passionate relationship, reminding them both why they’ve always kept the idea of love at arm's length. Will Kale and Lucy realize that what they've been waiting for is each other, or will the blazing whirlwind of their feelings burn out too quickly, causing it to all go up in smoke?

Love, love, loved it. I'm not usually fast when it comes to reading books but being that I purchased my copy on a day when I'm home sick from work, I haven't felt like doing anything else other than read so of course I consumed Kale, hoping he would make me feel better.

While it was Kale and Lucy's story I loved that we got a glimpse of what the other characters have been up to as well although for the moment, I could quite possibly have a new favourite in Kale. Well until Cohen and Xavier.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE the Explosive series! 12 May 2014

When Kale Montgomery and Lucy Dawson first met, they were immediately drawn together. Neither one looking for a relationship, they decided no strings attached sex would be PERFECT! That’s right. Friends with benefits - something casual, something fun … something that won’t get messy. Or so they thought.

Let me start off by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed Inflame. It was a cute, funny read that also had its share of heart touching moments.

Kale is the kind of guy that I would want by my side. Was he perfect? No. He certainly had his faults, but he has such a heart of gold that you’re easily able to look past his idiotic moments. To say that I was team Kale would be an understatement. As I was reading this novel, I became protective of him and found myself threatening certain characters with a frying pan to the head if they kept trying to interfere with him and Lucy.

Speaking of Lucy, I love her. I really do. But there were times when I just wanted to tie her down to a chair and smack some sense into her. She’s a really fun, spunky character, and you’re able to see two very different sides to her. I’ll also never look at a scantron test in the same way again.

Though this can be read as a standalone, characters from both Ignite and Incinerate will be present here. You get to see more Jace, Lexi, Knox, and Charlie and I am always so grateful to see more of them! Their friendship with one another is always a highlight and something that I look forward to.

This was a 5 star read for me. I was invested in the story, cared about the characters, and was a tad bit upset when I got to the end because there was nothing left for me to read.

Tessa is definitely growing as an author and it shines through with each new book that she releases. With captivating stories that hold my interest, and characters that are both loveable and unique in their own way, I will continue to buy each book that she writes.
5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet friends to lovers romance 30 June 2015

18 & Over.
The Characters:
Sgt. Kale Montgomery: US Army soldier and son of a hippie mother. He's sweet, funny, sexy, loyal and loves kids.
Lucy Dawson: She's a sexually liberated, elementary school teacher and soon to be mother.
Secondary Characters: Knox Wellington & his GF Charlie. Jace & his wife Lexi. Xavier Cruz and his daughter Lily. Kaylie & Kallie, Kale's sisters. Branson and Cohen Wellington, Knox's brothers. And last but not least, Sprout, Kale & Lucy's unborn baby.
The Plot:
Lucy and Kale are Best Friends With Benefits, and then Lucy finds out she's pregnant. Lucy recalls how they met and became friends and then the book picks up again in present time as we get to see how their relationship develops and secrets they are keeping are revealed. Will they be able to let go of their painful histories and move on for their happy futures or have they doomed themselves before it even begins?
The Feels:
It's true, Kale does do a body good! On that note, I'm here at Fort Campbell and I can't seem to track him down. Where exactly do I find him around her? LOL.
Seriously, one of my favorite things about this series is that it all takes place in Clarksville/Fort Campbell, my current home. It's so awesome to read about these guys (and gals) and to know exactly the places they are talking about.
My most favorite thing...these men. I mean come on, first we get Jace and then, oh then Tessa gives us Knox and now Kale. I can't. Are these not 3 of the most perfect men you've ever read about? First of all they are soldiers, which clearly is something I'm attracted to, (*waves to hubby*) but they are also just overall good guys with full hearts and great bodies.
Admittedly, Knox is my favorite but Kale has me really teetering on the fence. I was cheering for him from the very first page of this book. His reaction to Lucy's pregnancy was the best!! How could you not fall in love with him ASAP?
So, let's talk about she had a minor freak out when she first found out about the pregnancy but as the full story of how her and Kale came to be developed I fell in love with her spunk and her strength. I love how confident she was in her sexuality but also how she didn't let her past completely prevent her from seeking out her future. She may have stumbled briefly but once she recognized what she had, she held onto it and fought for it.
That's my other favorite thing about this series, that the angst isn't exaggerated nor does it take over too much of the story. Much life real-life, there are always bumps in the road to happiness but Tessa never turns them into mountains, or worse volcano's.
If you are looking for and angst filled story, this is not for you. If you love a sweet, funny romance that will have you searching your hometown for the real-life characters...this is right up your alley. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to search for some ranch style houses in Clarksville.
The Writing:
Told in first person from alternate POV's you get to see things from both Lucy and Kale's head. Some of it's written in past tense but mostly it's present tense. You'll fall in love with the way Tessa makes you feel about both of them as you hear their side of things. If you're like me you'll be duped into thinking the characters exist in real life, and possibly go out in search of them. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great addition to the series- love Kale and Lucy! 25 May 2014

“Ah, I love a good friends-to-lovers story. Sometimes those are the best ones."

And isn't that the truth, at least for me! Knox from Incinerate is still my favorite from this series but Kale Montgomery gave him a serious run for the title! I loved Kale and Lucy's story and Ms. Teevan has earned herself a spot on my auto buy list.

Kale and Lucy have been best friends with benefits for a while although their friends don't know the extent of it. Neither was looking for anything serious with each other- until they both realized that they were. But rather than risk their friendship, they each pretended that they were okay with casual until Fate decided to force the issue.

I loved both Lucy and Kale as characters. Lucy is fun- loving, daring and adventurous, and Kale's confident, laid back and equally adventurous side is perfect for her. He is strong, playful and has a huge heart beneath the carefree exterior. Both have some painful memories and pasts that cause them to proceed with extreme caution in the relationship area, but they fit together so very well.

Their story is told in a combination of flashbacks and present day scenes, but it is well written and never confused me along the way. Kale's reason for shying away from relationships broke my heart when it was finally revealed and it explained so much about his interactions with Lucy up to that point. This one definitely goes into the 're-read' category and I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars I FLOVE THIS BOOK!! 17 May 2014

** spoiler alert ** WOW, the 3rd book in the Explosive series and Tessa Teevan just keeps making her guys better and better!! Kale and Lucy start out as friends w/ benefits but quickly start feeling so much more. Afraid to tell the other they flirt relentlessly and make jokes of what they truly feel. It takes Lucy getting into a relationship and a then a surprise pregnancy for them both to finally freely come together. Love comes easily between the two but the secrets they have not shared could change everything. Lucy finally bares all hoping Kale will too. When Kale's secret comes out unexpectedly he watches and wait for his life to fall apart. Lucy helps Kale come to terms with his heart beaking past so they can move on with their lives together!

Kale always appears happy go lucky and carefree but underneath it all is a severely scorned man. Lucy brings out the best in him and Kales does the same for her!!

The love they share for each other and "Sprout" is so sweet and inspiring!!
I FLOVED this story!!!! If I could give it a million stars I would!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked the book till I didn't 3 June 2015

Then it came back around until it didn't. Really I'm all over the place with this read. I never really liked the female lead. To me she was just one of those women who just needed a man to feel verified. That's sad. She's a professional educated woman. Daddy issues are so sad and overdone when it comes to justifying poor female character behavior.

Then the whole issue with the male lead's ex. That 10 yr old grudge, hurt, can't get over tripe didn't do it for me. Unbelievable. The reasoning for not telling the heroine about his "past" was BS to make the story go on and on and on. This book had so many poor qualities I wanted to rate it low, but it had some good qualities that made me want to balance it out. So I settled on a let's say 3.5 stars.
