I was preparing to bunker down with this book and read all about a blossoming love and head on the rollercoaster of the rocker life. Quickly my preconceived thoughts were dashed.
I’m a bit fifty fifty on this book. I don’t understand why there was a prologue that gave away the ending. I read it and thought ‘well s***. Now I know the ending – where’s the incentive for me to keep reading?’
I had dinner. Sorted the kids out, bemoaned to a fellow reader of mine ‘why would I read it now?’ With some kind words, I kept reading.
The book has a really good premise. The characters are emotionally bankrupt and it takes a great author to make me give a damn about a character who is so devoid of a sense of right or wrong to make me keep reading.
Georgie is Slone’s biggest fan. She’s also the 16 year old daughter of Cassandra who is sleeping with Sloane as part of her husband’s fantasy. For part of the story, Sloane is the only one with a conscious and puts Georgie’s mental health first even when she doesn’t herself.
The author has created some serious sociopaths. They are manipulators. They are cruel and they are hell bent on taking down anyone in their paths.
As much as I was frustrated with the beginning giving away – the ending is fantastic!
I was kindly provided with a free copy of this book from the author to provide an honest review. Receiving this book for free did not influence my opinion nor review.
