It's 2017 and doctoral student, Cameron Coelho, just received a package from Indiana. The package was information he needed for his dissertation. Cameron can't wait to read through the materials. The 1920's were a time of strife, prohibition and jazz. Cameron is all set to work on his dissertation when he meets Geoffrey Bell. Mr. Bell is a likable man and just the person he needs to speak with to learn more.

The American Journey Series by John A. Heldt, is well written and has some really fantastic characters. It's a unique take on time travel. The descriptions are so vivid, you'd swear you were in the 1920's. You will find, in this book, how easy it seems to be to time travel. Some of the parts of the book will make you cringe. It makes you cringe because it's during a time in our history where horrible things happened. I'm not a real fan of time travel but Mr. Heldt does such an amazing job with this book. I was swept away from page one.

I found no issues in this one.

I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because it would be such fun to time travel this way. ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Time Travel 5 May 2016
By Sandra K. Stiles - Published on

This is the third book in the American Journey series. This time the author takes us to the Roaring Twenties. You don’t have to read the first two books to read and enjoy this one. They read just like stand-alone books. In this book we are presented with a problem that any time traveler fears. What happens if something can and should be prevented in the past and you know it will change the future if you do anything to change it? This is this situation that faces our main character. Cameron Coelho is completing his dissertation on life and the social implications during the 1920s. He buys the journals of Candice Bell who is a reporter and is murdered. He gets to meet Candice and sparks begin to fly. But what happens when you fall in love with someone and you know the date and manner in which they will die? Do you stop it knowing the possible consequences?

In this book we not only get to relish the entire time travel experience, but we get to live vicariously through the author in the time of the 1920s. I love that the author always spends so much time in research s that the reader feels they are a part of the time period. This one is a little different and has some wonderful twists. I highly recommend it and the rest of the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars The past, the present and the future. 30 November 2016

Receiving a package containing a portrait, letters, notes and pages torn from a diary he had purchases from of woman about her ancestors' time in 1925, Cameron Coelho at once became obsessed with the picture of the young woman. The papers contained notes that mentioned time travel and that too, grabbed his attention. He immediately called the person he knew who could give him answers, the professor and friend of long standing. The professor refers him to a former colleague who teaches physics and Cameron is off on a journey he never saw coming.

Cameron is a tad arrogant with Professor Bell, and creates tension between the two. He eventually convinces the professor he will fulfill the professor's request for information on the location of the cave where earlier relatives of the professor wrote of finding the crystals needed in time travel.

Once Cameron arrives in 1925, he does not stop until he locates the young woman in the picture and the story continues from there. A love story, an adventure, including a short visit to the future, and then there are the tense moments when the true circumstances occurred that had resulted in the death that year, of the young woman in the picture.

This is a book to be savored as novels are as it is read, taking one through months of living in the year 1925.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have always enjoyed the time travel genre 31 March 2017

I didn't realize this was part of a series. It is the first book I've read from this author, but will definitely not be the last. I have always enjoyed the time travel genre, but this book far surpassed those I've read previously. The history of the era was lovely and personal, the plot believable, and the characters (the Bell family and Cameron) were people you became very attached to and would like to know in real life. I thoroughly lost myself in this story and was sorry to see it end. I want to know how their future unfolds and what other adventures they enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting time travel 29 March 2017

I enjoyed the depth of research into the 1920s in Evansville, Illinois as it surrounded a great cast of life like characters. There were little clues that let me suspect part of the answer to the crime ring the reporter heroine tries to uncover. There were nice little details included in the scenes of this story that enabled me to imagine an interesting movie as I read. The clean romance between this couple of witty and well rounded individuals is both humorous and heartwarming.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love time travel and this is just about one of ... 14 June 2017

I love time travel and this is just about one of the best. The premise for going back in time reminded me of H.G. Wells and when I agreed to it, mentally, which I did fairly quickly, the story flowed well. We are always admonished to "change nothing" when we travel backwards for fear of the repercussions in the present. But, the main character makes up his mind before he even sets foot in the past that he is going to change a very major incident. He has fallen in love with a picture of the "Indiana Belle" and he must save her. Later in the story they even visits the future and it is scarily prescient. If you like time travel and a good romantic story, this book is for you.
