About the author

I’m an author of spicy Regency romance with alpha heroes and independent heroines, layers of emotion, and lots of sizzle. I fell in love with historical romances and all things Regency—and especially all those dashing Regency heroes—while living in England, where I spent most of my time reading Jane Austen and getting lost in London (especially the getting lost part). I have traveled around the world, both as a tourist and as a volunteer with children's organizations in Peru, Ecuador, Thailand, and Mexico. I love to hike and fly airplanes, adore all things chocolate and coffee, and am a Doctor Who fanatic (everyone says my house *is* bigger on the inside!). I am a terrible cook who hopes to one day use my oven for something other than shoe storage. In my spare time, when I'm not writing or teaching, I enjoy tending the roses in my garden during the summer and reading historical romances during the winter. My fav authors are Elizabeth Hoyt (her Maiden Lane series is fantastic!), Sabrina Jeffries (fabulous emotion on every page), Lisa Kleypas (whose prose is simply divine!)and Sylvia Day (who isn’t afraid to take historical romance in all kinds of new and hot directions).
I've been writing since 2015, when All About Romance named me Best Debut Historical Romance Author for my debut series, THE SECRET LIFE OF SCOUNDRELS. DUKES ARE FOREVER won the 2016 Maggie Award for Best Historical Romance, and HOW I MARRIED A MARQUESS was a 2017 RITA finalist. ALONG CAME A ROGUE broke through the usual Regency romance tropes by being about a woman who is nothing like other traditional Regency heroines. And in ONCE A SCOUNDREL, we’re taken twenty-five years into the future, to follow the loves and losses of the next generation of scoundrels.
I'm so excited this year to launch my new series, CAPTURING THE CARLISLES. When these heroes meet their heroines, they've met their matches--in more ways than one! IF THE DUKE DEMANDS, in which Sebastian’s desire to find the perfect duchess is turned upside down by Miranda Hodgkins, was named a TOP PICK by Night Owl Reviews. WHEN THE SCOUNDREL SINS is Quinton’s chance for love…if he can find a way to open his heart. (RT Reviews gave it a 4-1/2 stars TOP PICK rating.) Book 3, AS THE DEVIL DARES, to be released in March 2018, pits Robert Carlisle against his greatest adversary—Mariah Winslow, the woman standing between him and his business partnership. Stay tuned for more information about the Carlisle brothers and their equally rakish cousins!

This is the first book in a new series & what a starter! Fast paced, strong believable characters & a lovely, lovely romance. As with all of the author’s books they are very well written & she draws you in from the start & leaves you breathless by the end. I loved both Marcus & Danielle, he was the upright, often uptight former soldier who is finding it hard to adjust not only to civilian life but to his new title too, so much that he has his hideaway where he can let off steam & hence the name of the series, he’s also fiercely loyal & caring. Danielle has been in love with Marcus since she was a girl, she's also feisty, brave & strong & I loved how the pair locked horns at times. However for me the sheer delight of the book was the chemistry between the pair & Oh my! that first kiss was scorching. There is a secret group Scepter that Marcus & the rest of the men of the Amory swear to bring down & that very nicely sets up the next book in the series & leaves me looking forward to it
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

That said, I typically suspend my internal need for reality to win out over the fictional romance, but I ultimately couldn’t here, which is the only reason I didn’t give this book five stars.
The plight of these women was too dire and the work to save them too necessary to entrust to a corrupt MALE Parliament. Talk about the fox guarding the henhouse. I just could not believe that a network already in place could not have given Marcus the “purpose” he desired. What could be a higher calling than saving prepubescent girls from being sold for their virginity, not to mention the wives, daughters and sisters beaten to within an inch of their lives!
Forcing Dani to choose to abandon her noble efforts, while not seeing his potential to help both in front of and behind the scenes, tarnished my joy for their HEA and diminished him - and her, honestly - in my eyes. Frankly, Elise was the hero of this book and perhaps Beatrice. OMG, I am scratching my head as I even consider that, as they were presented as weak, foolish women, but there it is.
To add insult to injury, instead of keeping the underground network to save women going, Marcus creates a man-cave club to pursue the more manly foe of Sceptre, which will help women only tangentially, if at all. I like manly men (with mushy insides-sigh), but this seemed a little tone deaf to the bulk of the plot of this book which was to save women from abusive men. Perhaps this will be rectified in the future books of this series. I do hope so.
Please don’t let this review stop you from reading, however. I love Anna Harrington, truly. You can’t go wrong with her books.

Marcus is freshly home from war where his heroics have earned him a dukedom and learns he was lied to about his sister's death by the woman who claimed to be her best friend. It's his duty to find out who murdered her and his first place to start is with Danielle, who is definitely hiding something.
Danielle has dedicated her life to a charity that helps abused women find safety. The same charity her best friend worked for. The same charity that might be the reason she died. Danielle and Marcus might have to work together to uncover the truth about what happened to Elise.
An Inconvenient Duke gripped me from the start. While Marcus and Danielle may have only known each other because of Elise, they did have a friendship growing up and that friendship was the foundation of what would become so much more throughout this boom. I loved their relationship and the chemistry between the two of them.
Everything in this book worked together to make a very strong and gripping story. The character and story arcs were well developed and the backstories were revealed in just the right way. Definitely a series of books I want to continue reading.
