Product Description

Nerdy, introverted genius lepidopterist, Lawson Gale, is an expert on butterflies. He finds himself in a small town in Tasmania on a quest from an old professor to find an elusive species that may or may not even exist.
Local Parks and Wildlife officer, Jack Brighton, is an ordinary guy who loves his life in the sleepy town of Scottsdale. Along with his Border collie dog, Rosemary, his job, and good friends, he has enough to keep from being lonely.
But then he meets Lawson, and he knows he’s met someone special. There’s more to catching butterflies, Jack realises. Sometimes the most elusive creatures wear bow ties, and sometimes they can’t be caught at all.
Lawson soon learns there are butterflies he can’t learn about it in books. They exist only in a touch, in a kiss, in a smile. He just has to let go first, so these butterflies can fly.
Imago is the story of finding love, bow ties, and butterflies.

This was a truly striking read, one I would recommend to anyone- shout from the rooftops, in fact- and not just to fans of m/m romance! The plot, pacing, and emotional depth were exceptional, and the characters were lively and likeable. This book had me hooked right from the summary- a geeky butterfly expert? A rugged wilderness ranger? The Tasmanian bushland?! I could not buy and download this book fast enough! I read it within a day and it was fantastic.

N.R. Walker writes amazing characters. Lawson is a precious boy and I adored him. He’s comfortable in his own skin and his own style (bowties! suspenders!), and is living exactly the life he wants, doggedly pursuing his purpose- and he doesn’t give a single flying f**k if his purpose (namely, butterflies) seems a little strange to others. Or, indeed, if he himself seems strange to others. It’s clear he’s not one to compromise. He might be mildly lonely, but he sure as hell isn’t interested in anyone who doesn’t accept who he is. I think he’s actually quite surprised- in disbelief, in fact- when Jack seems to be SO entirely accepting and even in awe of who he is. But even with Jack’s overt, overwhelming attempts to court him, he’s not going to let this charismatic, strong-willed guy just get his own way. Lawson has standards, and those standards need to be met before he’ll give any of himself away. Of course it’s utterly adorable to see Lawson’s surprise and delight at Jack’s efforts to impress and please him, and it’s lovely to read about the two of them gradually getting closer.

Jack himself is, in a lot of ways, a fairly standard m/m hero, yet an immensely well-written and likeable one. He’s big and scruffy, confident and self-reliant.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect, reading a book set in a place I actually know, but I was surprisingly pleased when I had finished Imago. N.R Walker handled the setting superbly, and complimented it with a cast of well rounded characters and a wholesome romance that left me feeling all fuzzy inside.

There needs to be more romances set in Tasmania. The setting is ripe for it, and Imago shows just what can be done with the backdrop of the beautiful wilderness. A thrill brought the story to a perfect conclusion, yet kept perfectly in character with the time and place. The characters are alive enough to step off the page at any moment and live the story for real.

N.R. Walker is a talented writer. I have loved and re-read many of her books. Her characters are always interesting and the storylines are varied and engaging. Imago is no exception.
The story seems to have been inspired by Julie Bozza's "Butterfly Hunter" (author does acknowledge her support) which is also a wonderful book. If you liked it then you'll also like Imago.

I enjoyed and learned so much with this book. The dialogue was fun and the relationships, charming. Beautiful setting. As a Melbourne resident I felt even more connected to the story. It's a modern love story set in Oz.

Another brilliant story by the fabulous Aussie writer N.R. Walker. The talent of Ms Walker is sublime. This story was just so captivating, real and warm. Probably does ten fold more for Tassie than any advert out there for the Apple State. I'm from NSW and I wanna go chase butterflies down there. I love all her books, and I absolutely think she is a vastly under-rated Aussie author. Personally, I think her aussie based stories are quintessentially Australian without being bogan, not that there's anything wrong with bogan's. Ms Walker has a real talent for bringing her men alive, making them real and charismatic and so damn likeable. Her stories have you from the first paragraph right until the last sentence. Even sexy times with our leading men is smoking hot and full of emotional connection that seems right, true and believable from the outset. Thanks so much for a wonderful night reading. I can't be more quintessentially Australian than to say 'Do yourself a favour' ... read this book!

Who is this N.R Walker?
Each time I've read one of her books I've enjoyed them immensely.
Kind characters that are easy to like.
Although I usually read science fiction I've been reading one of the authors books every few Sci Fi novels.
You just feel like a nicer person every time you finish an N. R Walker story.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

I loved Imago. It is a completely uncomplicated romance. Lawson is a butterfly expert and is only in Tasmania for a week to do research. Jack is the local Parks and Wildlife officer. Lawson is an awkward genius and Jack is an outdoorsy, hunky popular guy. They bond over a shared love of conservation and every night they go on a date, each one better than the last.

This is a simple romance with a pop of excitement just at the right time. As I watched Jack and Lawson fall in love with each other I fell in love with them. Fabulous story. I'm going to be reading more of NR Walker's books as soon as I can.
