This is a great read for one of those days when you feel like doing nothing, easy to read in a days sitting. Had me sucked in from start to finish. Only problem is it left me wanting more. I really hope there is a sequel on the way, I want more of Ashlyn and Wren.

5.0 out of 5 stars I thoroughly enjoyed this book 2 November 2015

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It's easy to read and held my interest from the very beginning. Ashlyn is a very likable character, but not without her flaws. I wanted to see her get a happy ending after the life she'd had. Wren is mysterious, but always seems to show up when he's needed the most, a sexy and honorable hero! I even loved the supporting characters. Ally was a great sister and very colorful. Then there was Nikki, Jay and Tanya - all of them not so nice. But I loved how they were woven into the plot and how Ashlyn still came out on top. For anyone who loves the supernatural genre and is looking for a standalone book, this is a great choice!

Good storyline, suitable for all ages as the romanic content is mild.
Vampire novels have never interested me, but this book proved me wrong. Can't wait to read the next one.
4.0 out of 5 stars A new twist on Vampire mythology 16 December 2015
By Sara Miller - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review.

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of both the New Adult Genre and the Paranormal genre but when I can combine 2 of my favorites it's a good day! In Illuminated Darkness we get such a intriguing and a little complicated of a story (In a good way!) This is definitely a read to where you may have to flip back and reread certain parts as you discover some little secrets and events that while you can understand become more significant if you go back and make sure you have All the important information.

From the first chapter I was sucked into this story. It contains some new elements and situations that haven't been done before (at least that I've read haha) but Ashlyn is such an amazing character. She is different than a lot of characters who are in High School and I really appreciated that about her, her strength of character probably comes from her rough upbringing (unfortunate as it is) and we really see that strength shine through the farther we get into the book. The beginning of the book is a little slow to pick up once we see Ash in the present day But it quickly picks up and once it does the action is unrelenting! Wren is the mysterious guy who always seems to be at the right place at the right time. (and is seriously a tough guy that you wouldn't want to challenge. He would whip Edward Cullen's backside!) but once Ashlyn learns the truth about who she is and What he is haha she is gonna love having someone like that in her corner. I really enjoyed this story all the way through! It kept me interested and it was the perfect length to where I didn't leave the book feeling like it was rushed toward the end or that it went on for way too long.
2.0 out of 5 stars Not for me 25 December 2015
By A British Bookworm - Published on Amazon.com

I was drawn in by the blurb. And, to be fair to the author, there are the bones of a good story somewhere here. Sadly, it is let down by the fleshing out of the narrative.

I felt that the story and character development were both rushed, and the language was somewhat stilted and banal. Additionally, whilst I have no objection to "insta-love" per se, on this occasion, it was discordant.

I'm afraid that this one simply wasn't for me

3.0 out of 5 stars The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between 16 December 2015
By Ivy D. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
The Good: It’s not an everyday use of vampire mythology and I loved the integration of voodoo lore to the history. There was good potential and I think this author has promise because this idea is inventive. However...

The Bad: I struggled to connect with the characters and the flow was choppy. It’s very slow, especially the first half, before it really starts to delve into her destiny. I can handle insta-love as long as some time is spent building on that instant connection, but in this case, it was very shallow and the prose is stilted. In giving a foundation to Ash’s life, too much time is spent in her day to day actions, and it made the first half feel very lifeless.

Everything in Between: I can’t penalize this young adult story for feeling very young, but I did think that it is overwrought at times and too much of the action was saved for the last half of the story. I thought the douchey ex-boyfriend was a cliche and wished that the world was drawn a little more clearly, since it seemed that the last half was a major info dump of the mythology.

The Bottom Line
It’s an interesting premise that stumbles in the execution. I wouldn’t rule out a return, but I can't quite recommend this one.
