Product Description

Tumble into the icy danger of Antarctica with a blazing hot romance. Mittens and fan required.

Fresh out of residency, Dr. Kayna Quan opts for a tour in Antarctica. Money is short, so she hires on as medical officer aboard a Russian research vessel headed for McMurdo Station. Primed for almost anything, she plays her paranormal ability close to the vest.

Stationed on remote South Georgia Island for two years, Brynn McMichaels is eager for a change. When cultures of the single-celled organism, archaea, overgrow their bins in his lab and begin shifting into another form, he worries he’s losing his mind and talks with scientists at McMurdo, but they have problems of their own—bad ones. Brynn agrees to help. The weather’s too uncertain to send a plane, so he hitches a ride aboard Kayna’s ship and brings his mutant culture colonies along.

Attraction sparks, urgent, hot and powerful, between Brynn and Kayna, but her disclosure about her magic is a tough nut to crack. It doesn’t help that her dead father is stalking her. Lethal cultures, bizarre illness, and McMurdo’s refusal to let them land force Brynn and Kayna into an uneasy alliance. Will their fragile bond be enough to thwart the powers trying to destroy Earth, and them along with it?

I loved that this book was different to what I normally read. Eventhough it has a magical element the main thing that come through is the research that happen with doctors. They say that true love can happen on first sight and that's what really happens with Brynn and Kayna.
I gave the book 5 stars because that's what it truly deserves go into it not thinking about any other books you may have read by Ann because it is totally different. And yes it does have a HEA ending.

I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock! I gave this book 5 fangs!
Dr Kayna Quan is hired as a medical officer aboard a Russian vessel. Her extra paranormal "abilities" make her an exceptional Medical officer in any environment.
Brynn McMichaels has been seconded to investigate a discovery of a lifetime that could be lethal to all mankind if he is unable to determine what it is.
Amidst a looming nuclear war on the horizon between the USA & Russia, Kayna & Brynn must find a way to each others hearts, convince the USA base that the Russian Flag ship is neutral in the war & find a way to stop Kayna's dead father from killing them from the grave.
I absolutely loved the Authors' ability to keep me on my toes throughout every page.
Highly recommended for mature age paranormal romance readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the Antarctica setting 13 February 2015
By TFLReader - Published on Amazon.com

I have read quite a few books set in Antarctica and one would think that there is only so much that you can do with this particular setting. Not so - it is one the most untamed and interesting places on the planet. Author Ann Gimpel definitely does justice to this in her latest book "Icy Passage", a story that brings together two very interesting characters in an intriguing dilemma at the bottom of the world. Pretty much stuck on a ship, Kayna, a physician with some paranormal abilities and Brynn, a sexy scientist are forced into an alliance against some pretty big obstacles. I loved the original story line, the unique setting and the intense attraction between these two. Will definitely be reading more of this author's works soon.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great read with really different storyline! 24 April 2016

Really great and different storyline. Love how Ann Gimbel weaves the romance in with the knowledge that the oldest single cell being on the planet is also sentient. Come on people - that's plain just SPOOKY! Of course (like all her books) this book is so much more than a romance. You've got a war brewing, both ancient Celtic and Chinese magic, along with bunch of crew members suffering from the heebie-jeebies to contend with. Oh did I mention a dead megalomaniac who expects his daughters help? It's a must read for readers who love action, adventure, romance and just enough paranormal to scare the crap out of you!
5.0 out of 5 stars The very experience of going to Antarctica was just incredible. The mystery, thriller and romance tipped it over the edge. 28 February 2016

The US and Russia are on the edge of war and even at the bottom of the world, the repercussions are being felt. While journeying on a Russian ship to Mcmurdo, the US base in Antarctica, a thriller and mystery aboard ship holds the reader in its tight grip.

Even after they reach Antarctica, its sometimes hard to figure out where reality fades into fantasy, but that is part of the charm of the book. Meanwhile, a couple discovers love and the thrill of passion, which sometimes blots out the fear and distrust of the world around them.

This book lets you experience what its like to go to Antarctica, written by someone who has been there. The scenery and the detail of the journey are absolutely breathtaking. The very experience of going to Antarctica was just incredible. I loved the book for that experience especially. Add in the story, itself for the thrill and adventure, well, it is my favorite read in quite a while.

I'd previously read "Ice Bound: A Doctor's Incredible Battle for Survival at the South Pole", even saw the movie. I'd watched all those episodes of "Stargate SG-1" and even read "Antarktos Rising" by Jeremy Robinson. Nothing gave me the sense of BEING THERE until I read this book. For that, I send the think you, Ms. Gimpel!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review for this book.
4.0 out of 5 stars Icy Passage 3 March 2017

This book was a little different than the other paranormal books I've read. Most introduce all of the types of paranormal beings in their world building early. This one drops a few at a time with more to come. An interesting doomsday that doesn't go to the limit but a very scary prospect nevertheless.
5.0 out of 5 stars Bring Mittens and a Fan! 19 March 2015

Part of me wishes I’d waited until July to read this; the chilly antarctic details were just a little too vivid for an early March read :>). Ann doesn’t skimp on details—not in the settings, the characters’ thoughts, and not in the love scenes :>). Her writing is solid: her characters necessary and fleshed out, their motivations believable, the plot even, the paranormal element prevalent and well-blended into the detailed settings, etc. After reading a couple of her books, I expect all this. What I didn’t expect was the fascinating level of scientific detail in this book. I’m no biologist, or a medical doctor, but I read a lot about a lot, and they certainly sounded authentic to me (which is what counts anyway, though I’d love to hear a scientist’s take on this book). In addition, having the characters’ thoughts and the scenes so well drawn makes it easy to visualize the story. Kayla is an interesting heroine, and Brynn is the perfect man—both tough when it’s called for and extraordinarily thoughtful. Much of the story is about them, but not all of it, and not at the beginning. The mystery and paranormal/fantasy/sci fi elements join and balance to keep you guessing what will happen. The final resolution of those conflicts are implied rather than spelled out, but I felt completely satisfied when I reached the end of the book (the HEA for our protagonists helped) :>).

Additional comments for the re-release: The additional material really rounded out the read for me. I especially appreciated the last chapter/epilogue, as it spelled out those implied resolutions (and included another hot love scene). Plus, it gave Brynn even more hero cred (not that he needed it).
