As an engineer, Samantha is always looking for ways to make things better. As a creative and entrepreneur, Samantha loves creating things. As a Chinese person growing up in western culture, Samantha's Chinese can use some improvements!

Even though she did go to Chinese Saturday school, her most influential childhood exposure to Chinese while growing up in Toronto was reading dim sum menus during weekly “yum cha” lunches with the extended family.

After graduating, she journeyed on an expat adventure and took on a job in Hong Kong. During those few years, she significantly improved her Cantonese speaking and reading, but she is still lacking a bit in the Chinese writing department.

It’s been over a decade since she's moved back to Toronto, and things are getting rusty. Because of this, she created the social media account @JokSingJai to get back into practising her Chinese to teach her children.

She posts daily on Facebook and Instagram for @JokSingJai. Her bigger passion projects are her picture books, where she gets help from Chinese editors to get things right.

My 1.5 year old loves it and wants to read it every week. Language is relevant and story is relateable to him and I swear one the dads in the book looks exactly like my husband. jyut ping is also very useful for my husband to try and read. Wish it was colloquial Cantonese, but formal is good to be exposed to as well.

An awesome book cover, great hand-drawn colored pictures, charming illustrations & proper font & writing style. A very professionally written children’s (preschool/elementary) lion storybook. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s educational presentation (love for daddy), movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini-TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.
