Any hunter worth his salt will tell you that in order to capture your prey, there are few simple rules you must follow…

About the Author

Lily Velden lives on the east coast of Australia, her family having emigrated from Holland when she was a child.

She’s both a left and right brain person, holding qualifications in both Finance and Fine Arts. She tells her friends that her way with numbers will make her a profitable artist and writer… one day.

Lily has always had a love of language and a beautifully crafted sentence, and admits to having a fetish for collecting quotes, poems, and song lyrics. What she won’t admit to is how many notebooks she’s filled with those quotes… Her fascination carries on into her artworks where she often incorporates text. When a shoulder injury slowed down her art practice she decided to explore her love of the written word more fully and began writing. “I’ll paint my pictures with words.”

Not that she’s abandoned artmaking in its entirety—Lily collaborates on the designs for all her book covers.

There are many things Lily loves, here are just a few of the PG rated ones: a good laugh (all the better if caused by a naughty joke), the smell of freshly baked goods and mown grass, a smile from a stranger, rainbows after the rain, and witnessing a promise kept.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Hot 5* Read 26 November 2014

My 5* Review:

A hot, lust-filled short story told in alternating points of view.

William, the hunter, gets to know his prey. He's the bar owner observing a hot, young, confident, gorgeous red-head with lust and want. He's used to luring men into his lair to ensnare them. He usually captures and has his way with them—just once–and then lets them go. He's the love’em and leave ‘em type. For three months, with a silent communication of staring, teasing and winking, he enjoys chasing David. He feels it will make the kill even more satisfying when he eventually captures his prey.

The trouble is David also thinks he's the hunter. Younger and less experienced, but even so, he's aware of what William is up to. David wants to be more than a one-night stand. He's attracted to the older and deliciously fit barman. He wants him to beg for it! And he wants their experience together to be memorable.

Both men think they are in control. They want the other man to be desperate for them. They flirt and torment, hoping the other will finally submit. But who is the hunter and who is hunted in the end?

A highly recommended read. I loved seeing the story unfold through both character's point of view.

Oh, this is a real fun way of hunting. Not only do we readers get a chance to find out the rules of how to play the game, but we also get to know the rules of how to play it as the supposed hunted prey.

We have David, a college student on his vacation. He had been going to this bar for the past three months stalking his hunter. Yes, you read right. David is the hunter and he is also the prey. From David's point of view, he gives us the hows and whys of the hunt. He gently guides us readers on what to look for, what signs to spot, and so on.

Then there is William's point of view. He thinks he is the hunter, truly he does. So he gently guides us readers on the way of the hunt, complete with stalking and easing prey into their arms. What he does not know is, he is David's prey, we readers are the only ones who know that.

So the hunter and the hunted circle each other in this bar. It's been going on for the past three months. As they each go their separate way, we see each man look back and maybe wink. We read each man think they are getting the upper hand.

At the end of the read, who does win? Well, that is for me to keep quiet to and for you to find out.

A quick (albeit very intriguing) short story, “Hunter or Hunted?” is the tale of the chase between William and David, from the perspective of each of their minds. Each thinking himself the hunter, David and William were basically stalking their prey. With every word the tension continued to build, leading up to the payoff - their ultimate encounter, which was worth the well written wait.

William and David. Hunting each other. Which one is the hunter? Which is the hunted? Take a few minutes and see if you can make that determination - I couldn't. I am not usually a fan of the back and forth of head hopping, but it really worked here. I found this to be captivating, sexy and entertaining from the first word to the very last. Kudos, Lily Velden, for this well orchestrated cat and mouse game. I really enjoyed myself, and recommend this to anyone looking for a quick, sexy read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very intriguing take on romance, yet funny and sweet 26 November 2014

This was a gripping, fun, and sweet read. This short story gave me that “I know something I won’t tell” feeling as I read David and William’s recounts of what was going on. I just wanted to hug them, they tie them together and end the long game that made me shout at them a few times. I laughed, I sighed, I rooted, like a true fangirl.
