I just finished this and I can honestly say, I am not impressed. It grabbed me from the beginning, but lost me soon after. Bay gave me whiplash. I couldn't understand her behaviour with the 2 men at the start...I don't want to go into detail and spoil it for persons reading this... I was quite disgusted by her indecision. Also her best friend...? I didn't understand her at all about Gannon. And Van....*shakes head* Especially the part with Honey (and I mean stripper not a sweet spread you put on toast). Just "Eeewwww".
Then the 'issues' with the H... I guessed the ending, it was predictable...but I felt there were gaps in information. I just didn't understand the flow of the story...maybe there was none.
It had such promise, but I struggled to finish. I REALLY tried not to skim or skip either.
I don't think I will be reading this author again. I'm actually upset I paid for this.

This is very different from anything I have been reading in a long long time.
This story is not all rainbows & lollypops. Its gritty, emotional & raw.
HJ Bellus has taken her 2 characters, Van & Bay, she has ripped them apart piece by piece & then put them back together and
repaired them, rebuilt them and restored them bit by bit. She has created a forever once in a lifetime love.

I actually don’t remember the last time a character was so facinating and enthralling to me that at times I actually felt like I was reading about a friend/family member.
But that is exactly what happened with Van & Bay. I felt like Bay was my sister & Van was my friend that I wanted to wrap up in cotton wool & protect from the world!

Van & Bay probably seem doomed to most readers from the beginning but the are perfectly matched. She calls him her big bad wolf, but that is as far from the truth as you
can get. He doesn’t love easily, but when he does he is all in.
Bay is just gorgeous. She sees something in Van that no one does & it was never a question that she would belong to him.

HJ Bellus has once again brought her characters to life in a way that has you falling in love with them and her writing.
As an added bonus, her cover for this book is so spot on, this is exactly what I pictured Van to look like & having that visual made it easier to picture him in my mind within the context
of the story.

Well done to HJ Bellus on giving us another 5+ star story!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment from middle to end. 27 February 2016
By Dirty Words - Published on

This is not my first HJ Bellus series, her My Way series is one of the best, but this missed the mark totally. This is marketed as a dark read and it was not close to dark. Maybe if we got some of Vans pov then maybe it would have given us insight as to why this was dark. Also the blurb states that he walks through your front door covered in blood. Maybe I read something completely different but Van did not walk through her front door, he talked to her on her stoop with blood splatters on his shoes.
I guess maybe I was expecting darker. I loved Van, but got super irritated with Bay. For someone so sheltered she moved extremely quick into a cursing, love sick puppy. She got nervous around Gannon, but with Van she was watching things and playing along? Um, no. Sorry. The ending threw me off with no mention of the other players in the final conflict, I mean, did they die? Did they go to prison? Something, anything that would clear it up, along with who is killing the others, because it doesn't point blank say it. What about the other officer who talked to Bay at the station? So many questions that could have been answered that were necessary for the story that were completely ignored. Disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars You're my story from beginning to end 23 February 2016

If you like suspense, drama, revenge, lots of hot sex and a little crazy thrown in at the same time then this book is for you. HJ does an amazing job with character development and making you root for Van and Basil in this book.

Van has been wrongly accused of a crime and is fresh out of prison set on revenge and finding out who framed him. Basil has been sheltered, homeschooled and raised by a hippy mother. She is on her own in the big city and is set to try to make it on her own and get into art school.

"I don't remember what it felt like to be loved." "I promise you'll never forget." I assure him.

There is a lot of humor that I have come to love in HJ's books along with a plot twist that you never see coming. When you're broken sometimes you find the right person to make you whole again.

He's supposed to be scary, wicked, venomous...The bad one. He has scars to prove it. Some search for a love like it, but he found me. Left scars on my heart that will forever taint my soul. He's my Big Bad Wolf and now The Hunted my heart will forever search.

"You're my story from beginning to end."

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved! 23 February 2016

After reading this book, I am left speechless. My emotions are all over the place from Van and Bay's story. I seriously had to put the book down several times because I became too overwhelmed and anxious! Thank you HJ Bellus for sharing your talent and f@$&ed sense of humor with readers!

Best line I have read in a book in a long time, "She gets a little dick in her and wine, then gets lippy.” That had me laughing so hard!

Bay and Van's story is a true rollercoaster. Their relationship isn't perfect but they are living their way. Bay is a shy anxious girl who does not do well in social settings since she was homeschooled by her hippie mother. Van is the Big Bad Wolf with a heart of gold. Their journey is dark at times but ends with the right shining through.

5.0 out of 5 stars A dark, twisty, and amazing read! 23 February 2016

Suspenseful, Sexy, and one heck of a ride!

The Hunted is a fast paced romantic suspense novel that had me from the very first words and didn't let go till the end. I loved Bay's character and how strong she was.

Bay is on her own, living in the bad part of town, working towards finding herself and saving up money to live her dream of going to art school. She's working nights as a waitress at a strip club, making good money and hoping that it helps get her to where she wants. She never expected Van to enter her life, and for her to be so intrigued by him.

When we first met Bay she was shy and socially awkward, but as the book goes on we get to really see her and watch her grow. She has a fling with Gannon, who I wasn't very fond of, but her mind is always on her sexy neighbor Van. Van is just out of prison for a crime he didn't commit, and is working on trying to figure out who set him up. He's a mysterious character and states over and over again that he's not a good guy, but Bay can't stay away from him.

There is a series of murders happening around town, and everything points to it being Van being responsible, but as we get to know him through Bay's eyes, you can see he couldn't be responsible for these bad things. Sure he's done some bad things, but you can see deep down he is a good guy, he just doesn't know how to see himself differently. I was going back and forth throughout this entire book trying to figure out who was behind the murders, and I had a part of it right, but was NOT expecting the twist we got when we finally found out who was responsible.

Not only is this book a edge of your seat murder mystery, but also a beautifully written love story. Bay accepts Van for who he is, and loves him unconditionally, and Van is the same way with her. The way he protects her and takes care of her, had me swooning. Over and over again he would say he was the big bad wolf, but he really and truly wasn't. Sure he can be a bad guy, and he has some major anger issues, but after hearing his back story, I really did understand what made Van, Van. He's not your typical book boyfriend, but that doesn't mean I didn't end up falling for him right along with Bay.

This book is a dark and suspenseful read that had me guessing over and over again. There is heartbreak, love, and times where I was yelling "NO!! WHY DID THAT JUST HAPPEN?!". This was one beautifully written story that had me finishing this book in one sitting. I will admit, I wasn't sure what I was getting into while picking this book up, but I am sure glad I did, because it was AMAZING!

4.0 out of 5 stars Captivating! 23 February 2016

This was one intriguingly good read! I was hooked on the first chapter and found it hard to put down until 'The End'. The characters were deep and had a lot of amazing qualities about them. The story of Basil and Van was a rollercoaster ride of suspense. There were a lot of sex scenes. So if you enjoy that, this is definitely a book you will want to read. There were also some subjects that might be triggers for some readers. Typically I don't read this genre, but I did find myself engrossed in the plot until the very last page. Only a scattering of punctuation and grammatical errors...not enough to take away from the book itself. I give The Hunted 4 Stars. I can't wait to see what she has for us next!

I was given this Advanced Reader's Copy in return for an honest review and that is exactly what I have done.
