This is a good book if read carefully. IF you implement all the lessons of this book without thinking - you will become one of those useless person who is a "YES SIR" type. But there are good qualities to learn from this book too.
Well written and easy to understand, how to winfriends and influence people gives weight to treating people as though you wish to be treated. Very clear and insightful on the application of basic principals in our society and how they can work for you.
To our modern ears 'How to winfriends and influence people' reads a lot like 'how to trick people into liking you and then manipulate them'.
This book was written in the 30s, and it contains simple, common sense and timeless advice for getting along better with people. It's one of those rare books that is so perfect that it hasn't been bettered in almost a century.
Read it ages ago, and gave it as a gift to someone who needs to get off their backside and be responsible for their own decisions. Why do so many people think that the World owes them a living., or that 'Motherhood' is the old fashioned word for Funded Childcare? I am not sitting in judgment, not my job, but know the challenge and joy of raising 3 children on my own. They are married with families now. There was a time when all I owned was 3 beautiful chil dren and a car. "How To WinFriends and Influence People" always gave me a way to travel ahead, when I seemed to have come to a dead end. There was not Government money around, except Child Endowment which everyone was given. This is not the kind of Book Review that you would expect, but if it helps others to make wise decisions then I would have given them the way to cope, whatever the challenge.
