Very good and easy to digest. Useful tips with illustrations. With examples which are relatable to parents of young and not so young kids

The case studies help young parents to understand the concept of positive parenting. It’s easier for me to understand case studies instead of pure theory based.

Dislike : a lot of words
Improvement : may have to relate to current environment as the world has evolved to technology. Ie can the techniques be applied by way of technology in today’s world? A lot of communication is done via technology (whatsapp ?) nowadays compared to previous centuries.

Book changed my life
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 January 2019Verified Purchase
I read this book and it opened my eyes. It was actually quite stressful to read it as it really shone a light on how I had been behaving my whole life until that point. To be honest, it's changed my relationship with my husband more than anything else. He has learnt by osmosis from me and our daughter is now the happiest calmest child, I just would never have thought that two years ago. Really basic but useful, practical real life examples. I wish everyone knew about it, it makes life so much easier in the long run (but be warned there is a period of horrified introspection you might go through when you realise your responses to date might not have been very helpful).

Awesome book! This is such a positive, loving way to raise your children to be resilient, respectful, empathetic, independent problem solvers, with self worth. I have three children: 13, ten and four and people always congratulate me for how “well behaved” they are. Something didn’t sit well with me, the idea of using bribes or punishments or judgemental glances towards my children in order to get their cooperation. This book offers a different and healthier way to raise children so that they can take responsibility for themselves and mature into confident, shame-free adults. It will take a while for the techniques to come naturally but I have so many pages highlighted, post-ited and tried many ideas already and my children are responding, serving to underline how far we underestimate their ability to problem-solve without conflict. I’ve just ordered the whole series (so much cheaper BTW).

It works! THE parenting book.

I have the two best boys in the world who appear very happy. My eldest, in particular, never forgets to say please or thank you, but he rarely opened up to me about how he was getting on at school, so when I saw the ... How to listen so kids will talk, I decided I should give it a go, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?
I have always been a strict parent, I have high expectations of my boys, myself, my husband... I have been going about reaching those high expectations the wrong way all my life it would appear! Having read the first few pages, it was clear that my attitude needed a drastic rethink. I tried to put the suggested teaching to work and instantly my eldest responded well. I can see him growing in confidence before my eyes and he's started talking openly about his life. I am humbled. Even the woman who knew everything, didn't. I'm still learning, and so are my family, but these two ladies have persuaded me that their way is better than mine ever was. It's not easy, and I forget easily, slipping into my old habits, but I believe this something really worth working at. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I loved this book!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 August 2018Verified Purchase
This book contains ideas and examples about managing difficult situations with children in a way that respects them as an individual and encourages them to discuss their thoughts as well as encouraging them to find their own solutions to problems. It is all about including a child in decision making and encouraging them to take responsibility for their actions and their words. Well worth a read.

Amazing! It’s working for me.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 November 2019Verified Purchase
I am still reading this book as I’ve tried a couple of things I’ve read and didn’t want to skip through it too quickly. I’m only about a third through and have had two different scenarios using two of the different techniques which have played out almost exactly as in the book and almost made my jaw drop open as they were happening as they worked so well. I’m partly writing this review hoping one of the authors will read it as I think it is amazing! My son is has just turned 8 and it seems perfect for his age. I’ll probably try the teenager one as he gets older too
