About the Author
Toni Bernhard fell ill on a trip to Paris in 2001 with what doctors initially diagnosed as an acute viral infection. She has not recovered. In 1982, she'd received a J.D. from the School of Law at the University of California, Davis, and immediately joined the faculty where she stayed until chronic illness forced her to retire. During her twenty-two years on the faculty, she served for six years as dean of students. In 1992, she began to study and practice Buddhism. Before becoming ill, she attended many meditation retreats and led a meditation group in Davis with her husband. She lives in Davis with her husband, Tony, and their hound dog, Rusty. Toni can be found online at www.tonibernhard.com.

The Perfect Companion
Reviewed in the United States on 28 May 2020Verified Purchase
I must admit I wasn't sure how useful I would find a pocket companion to a book I've enjoyed in its long form. But I couldn't resist buying this because I'm such a fan. being able to sit and read snippets of wisdom from Toni's book has been pleasantly surprising. The writing is condensed but makes it easier to sit and ease my thoughts if I'm out and have a quiet moment. I think people will find it a useful addition to their collection. It's could also be a great way to introduce the teachings and writings to people who might feel like they don't have the time to read the original book. Highly recommend!

Really useful in the therapy room~!
Reviewed in the United States on 20 October 2020Verified Purchase
I was so happy when I saw that Toni had put this little pocket guide out. For one reason, because I benefited tremendously from the practices as they were laid out in How To Be Sick, so having them more readily accessible will serve as ready reminder when I am 'caught'. Secondly, in my role as therapist, I come upon many clients who suffer greatly from chronic pain conditions. The simple little practices being so 'user-friendly' will inspire me to inspire my clients to give them a try. Thank you Toni for this precious gem!!
