Big Girl Lesson #1 - The House always wins...

Reformed con artist and card sharp Marie Lafayette never had a chance to "come of age." She was too busy staying out of jail and keeping her little brother and sister out of the morgue. Six years on the run from her father, living as clean as she can to raise her siblings, she was hoping L.A. would give her family a fresh start.

Instead, her sister is taken hostage by a violent criminal from their past who forces Marie to once again put on her game face and take a seat at a Vegas Blackjack table.

Busted by casino owner Luke Masters when Marie's soft lips and lush curves catch his eye, she has one chance to save her sister and erase the past -- if she surrenders to Masters' every passion for thirty days.

I really enjoy this sexy romantic story set in Las Vegas. The heroine had the bad luck to be raised by an abusive con-man. She was trained young to help with his cons. She was very good at it, but doesn't have the con-artist nature. She wants to just live a normal, honest life. Unfortunately, she is raising her younger brother and sister and the sister seems to be following in her father's footsteps.
Unfortunately, her sister has gotten kidnapped and they are forcing Marie to cheat a casino to get enough money for ransom.
The hero is described in her thoughts as a male runway model and "smoldering hot and achingly beautiful" when she first sees him. Unfortunately, he catches her cheating and kidnaps her brother to force her to follow his plan. The plan was a surprise, as we see when it plays out.
Of course, we get these two together, and there is some mystery, action and surprising twists.
I read this as a part of perilous curves when it was called Vegas Curves.

5.0 out of 5 stars House Rules...I'd say! 2 November 2014

Damn...what can I say? Luke...wow. I really wasn't sure about him at the beginning. He seemed like a real ass...I guess in a way he was. Kind of forceful. After learning his background I can see why. Vincent...his brother was a total jerk. I didn't really understand his deal at all. He was very confusing! Marie...man you can't help feel sorry for her. Seriously, all the crap she went through and had to do to save her siblings butts is just horrendous! Her sister was a total witch! I had a bad feeling about her from the beginning. Her brother Tommy is just young and stupid but he genuinely cares about Marie. Just too young to realize her sacrifices. Luke...again wow...he was just really sweet under it all. I think it was love at first sight for him. I really do. Ms. Wick did a VERY good job at masking that and what Luke was really like until the middle to endish. I loved this book. Very sexy and hot and yum! Its a favorite from Ms. Wick and as many as she has written...thats saying a lot because I enjoy her work A LOT! Another thing about Marie...she was one strong female lead. She was just a roller coaster of emotions and everything she's had to deal with. When Luke came to her aid she didn't know which way was up she couldn't necessarily think much through if he was really helping her or setting her up in a big way. So many emotions and her stress level...I'm really amazed she didn't crack. I teared up at the end when they professed their feelings...Luke...he is what got me! Such a great character. I hope she considers this as a series. Vincent should get a story...even though he was kinda weird through it I believe his thoughts/feelings were for protecting his brother. He just went about it wrong and acted like an idiot.
