Young, beautiful girl runs away with beloved admirer, much good sex produces 5 daughters, all stunningly beautiful. Papa goes to God and daughters grow up and leave Mum and her house by the river. The book tells in mattress pounding detail the story of their lives with handsome and/or rich husbands, lovers and occasional street flotsam in one case. There are husbands and lovers continually bouncing the mattress fibres flat and a tragedy intervenes in each daughter’s life to make her want to go back to that house by the river to regenerate.
The writing is adequate, the bedroom scenes are excessive, by the fifth daughter’s sexual story any novelty had long since palled. My sympathy goes to Mother who will welcome five disparate daughters and assorted offspring back. Daughters all who have come a LONG way from dirt floors and rudimentary basics and are expected to rejoice in life’s simplicity in the house by the river.
If the bedroom scenes were removed [plus a lot of the ‘out of the bedroom’ canoodling and sex] the book would reduce from over 500 pages to around 100. I cannot understand the good reviews unless bored suburban housewives console their miserly bed experiences by reading the exploits of these 6 women.
The book improved my ‘skip reading’ ability and overall it left me frigid and wanting to read something with more plot and less orgasms.
