What an amazing work this book is! I finished it living in the community, with each of the extraordinary characters, feeling the depth of their love, their pain, their bewilderment stumbling, as they are, through life like the rest of us. I wanted to talk to Sue Gee, to beg her to write a follow-up novel, a trilogy.... !
This book is rare, a page-turner indeed. Read it! Enjoy it and return to it. I have now bought every single one of Sue Gee’s books - why is she not better known? - an incredibly talented author. I wish I knew her!

Loved it!Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 April 2016
Sue Gee was recommended to me by my aunt. I had never read any of her books before and absolutely loved this one! She writes in such beautiful detail that you can imagine yourself inside all the different settings. She also creates wonderful characters that you really feel you get to know well - some you love and others you can't stand, but that's what makes it so powerful. I will definitely be buying more of her books.

I so enjoyed The Hours of the NightReviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 February 2018
This Author Sue Gee, is absolutely sublime, I so enjoyed The Hours of the Night, and will shortly read it again and no doubt will get even more pleasure in such superb writing, story and character construction. It is a pity to write a blurb on a book that is so special. Let the reader find out for themselves the beauty of The Hours of the Night.
Beautiful and yet hauntingReviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 April 2020
An intriguing story with the most beautiful and atmospheric description. The sounds and smell of the countryside takes you there. You experience the love and grief, the beauty and the squalor. A beautiful book.
Sue Gee is a foremost writer of the present day; she deserves the highest acknowledgement.Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 November 2019
The Hours of the Night by Sue Gee is a wonderfully lyrical piece of writing. Her characters are deeply defined and the significant plots well established and totally believable. I feel it should have been on the Booker Prize list.
