Struggled reading this one due to the editing.
Penni - what a nut case.
Jackal takes the cake at persistence.
It's a different pace and tempo to the previous. Sometimes it felt like I had whip lash trying to follow the storyline.

Therein I think, lies the rub as Shakespeare would have said. What expectations the reader has in their mind and what the author has is often totally different. However author wins and with that in mind, I ignored the negative reviews at the beginning of the long list of mainly good reviews and decided to make my own mind up.
I loved it.
It was interesting, funny, violent, thought provoking, nature loving with friendships, heartache and love. I smiled, smirked and was perturbed. There are some odd parts e.g. I've never understood Grace working for Penni. However, it was fabulous having the Predators, Lost Riders and Blue Horseman all involved.
It was for me, Jamie Begley at her best.
I'm not a fan no matter what an author writes, the book has to be good, e.g. to be honest, I didn't like the end of Shade and Lily's second book. I've never like Lucky and Willa's and haven't even finished it. This one though, it reminded me of Riot which I really liked.
Overall - don't be put off, throw away your expectations and enjoy the ride.
I will keep it short and sweet. Jackel is nothing like the biker he is portrayed to be in previous books where he is mentioned.. He was suppose to be intimidating, moody, mysteriously bad ass but in this book he was just.. Normal!
And what happened to Penni? She was loveable and mischievous, sassy even, however none of these traits were shown in her character.
The book went from hot and cold and there wasn't any progression in their love story. It was so abrupt and confusing I finished feeling like I hadn't just read a Jamie Begley book!
The three stars shown are honestly more out of my love for the authors previous writings, the fact there was a few funny one liners and the appearance of some much beloved old characters.
I am a die hard begley fan and will continue to read any books she writes in the future.. Unfortunately this book just wasn't for me :(
Penny grow up with Shade and grow up thinking she couldn't feel like everybody else. When she first meet Train, he was the man of her dreams but she will always be Shades little sister in trains eyes. Nobody touches Shades little sister. She wanted a relationship like Lily and Shades, one that will last forever.
Jackel first meet Penny when she started working for Mouth2Mouth. Penny is always date men but never him. He then kidnapped Penny to get a Predator Man back from The Last Riders. He wants a relationship with her but she doesn't want a relationship with him. Then she gets kidnapped by Hennessy and this men. Jackel know that he needed to get Penny back for himself and the LastRiders because Shade is going to kill him otherwise.
I loved this book and would recommend Jamie Begley's books.
Whilst I enjoyed reading Hostage I was also so disappointed with the story because the real Penni and Jackal characters I fell in love with since the days of reading; Tainted, Shade’s Fall, King, Riot and Stand Off were nowhere to be found.
I loved Jackal before and did fall more in love with him in Hostage, but I felt like I was in love with two different characters and the same went for Penni. Jackal came across as sweet and attentive with Penni and I absolutely loved seeing that, but the snarky and arrogant biker who kept me glued to my Kindle whenever he butted heads with Penni had taken a leave of absence.
Penni in this was badass, funny, strong, vocal, fragile, and beautiful, but still she was not completely the same Penni I loved. She came across as crazy with her erratic behavior and strange throwing in the air antics, along with her crush on Train which I didn’t feel was executed enough to encompass her feelings and it was used against her. Penni’s clash with Killyama and crew was something I thought I would never see, and didn’t like it as I always foresaw them as friends. Also the scenes with the swans and the metaphor of swans finding their soulmates wasn’t executed enough for me to aww over.
The appearances from so many characters in Hostage did not make it feel like a Predator book at all but more like a Last Rider. What happened to the presence of the Predators? I thought we would get some drama from Juliet or Crush but nothing. My highlight actually came from Mags who was on form, her lines had me in stitches I think she really loved being in the LR clubhouse and all the attention she got.
What I hated about this book besides Penni and Jackal being awol, was the god damn grammatical errors that had me trying to make sense of what was being said, and the inconsistency of Ginny's name spelt as Genny did my head in. Raci I hate this club woman how dumb can she get or should I blame the repetitive storylines and how the club women get away with murder?! I do blame so many for the hurt Penni suffered and that includes Shade, Jackal, Ice and Viper. Where was the protective big brother Shade? Yep he was also a big letdown and it was good to see where his priorities lay, after his baby sister helped him out with Lily.
I will say Penni and Jackal were still an explosive duo and their chemistry, banter and sexual tension was off the charts, so it made no sense why only a few sex scenes were included.
I also thought Jamie would add past interactions between Jackal and Penni to please fans but that was another missed opportunity.
The ending yeah I really wish Penni made Jackal grovel his ass off to get her back! She just came across as desperate and her speech was like she didn’t care how many women he slept with, really?! Jackal should have been man enough to let her know what his plans were, but again these men learn nothing in hurting the women they supposedly love. The epilogue was not enough after the storyline we were given and just ended abruptly.
I would have maybe liked to have seen Jackal be a little more alpha but on the flip side, he had layers, that I would never have imagined from what we've glimpsed of him before and so in retrospect, it meant this book was way more of a surprise than I could have imagined. I loved Penni; she was great and her scenes with the biker bi**es were a real highlight.
I look forward to the audio of this book to be released as I've often found that these stories seem to get better and better after a re-read or listening on audio.
I couldn't recommend this series strongly enough.
