I really enjoyed HHiHH, and found the characters rather charming. Emma, and her grandparents were cute - even if they seemed rather prickly at times - and her reunion with her childhood friends, Suzy and Billy (call me Will), was sweet and adds another dimension to the ensemble. I foresee a few potential nemesis for Emma, and I can’t wait to see how that unfolds.
As to the twist, it’s refreshing to come across an ability born out of an accident - and medically possible - instead of characters with all powerful, inherited abilities. The murder mystery itself was rather short, and took a backseat to character development and I’m not mad at it.

A pleasant read with well written descriptions. I will look out for more in the series and indeed any others by this author

Reviewed in Canada on 18 September 2018Verified Purchase

I am always looking for new authors and the book cover was very inviting!
The image of Emma and Snowball really peaked my curiosity and I was hooked.
I am going to set up my account with my local library to borrow ebooks, now I will not have to lug heavy totes of books 🎉

Horribly Hollow, but with potential...
Reviewed in the United States on 1 December 2018Verified Purchase
Good theme and plot, but underdeveloped with rudimentary writing and ghastly editing. With more effort and the help of a good editor, the author could have an entertaining series of Southern fiction, but as is, she misses the mark. I did enjoy the glimpses of the picture she was trying to paint, though! I plan to keep pushing through the series with the hope that her writing skills progress and mature. I would also love to see more in-depth character development and smoother dialogue, without losing the straightforward, country charm. This can be tough to master... it’s walking a fine line to sound authentic while maintaining structure. Best of Luck!
