Product Description

It was a modern take on an arranged marriage that was supposed to lead to my happily ever after. The rules were simple:

1. Marry a complete stranger chosen for you by professionals.
2. Live together as man and wife for eight weeks while cameras record your every move.
3. Make a decision to stay together or get a divorce.

Call me crazy, but I had complete faith in the process, until I saw who was waiting for me at the end of the aisle.

Austin James has never met me, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know him. With no other choice, I say my vows and pray I can make it through the next eight weeks. Then I’ll leave. What connects us is my best kept secret, and I’ll protect it at all costs even if that means walking away from the only person I’ve ever cared about.

HASH(0xbb477d74) out of 5 stars A Must Read!! 25 February 2016
By M. Addison - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
My Rating: 5

I've completely avoided the current trend reality show on TV, Married at First Sight, mostly because I think it's a ridiculous notion. I know absolutely nothing about how the show works, and haven't really researched it at all. I just think (even if chosen by the so called "experts") that it's kind of a twisted experiment that can't always work out - much like the Bachelor. I think some people, the ones truly ready for that serious relationship, could definitely make it work and be in it for the right reasons... But it's the drama that makes for good TV, but it also makes for really crappy relationships.

Hopeless Vows isn't a book I'd normally choose just from reading the blurb on the back - I actually would have turned my nose up at it, until I saw the cover!! Have you seen it?? It's gorgeous!! Even knowing what the plot was based on (a notion I don't believe in), I decided to jump in and read it anyway! I'm glad I did. I still don't believe in this crazy idea that you can get married and THEN figure it out... But I liked the story, and most of all I fell in love with the characters and their relate-ability.

This was my first book by this author, and I really enjoyed how she chose to tell this story! It's such a strange love story - based around a reality tv show, but I felt the love these characters had for each other and it felt honest and real... And gave me a little more hope for these kinds of reality dating shows!

First of all, you meet Jillian. She's up & coming in the fashion industry and an all around "good" girl! She loves her job, has the sweetest (but most high-maintenance best friend), and just really wants to find someone to love her... The problem is, she's not been very honest with the producers and doctors creating this show and picking her match.

Then you meet Austin James. A genuine gym God who just wants to love and live with no regrets!

Now, put them immediately into a wedding ceremony... And make them live 8 weeks togehther just to see if they can't truly be compatible... So much happens in this book and I found myself all over the emotions scale! I got happy, I cried, and I even got really ticked off. This author really knows how to connect her readers with a character and make you feel those emotions right along with them! It's incredible and for that, my friend, Duncan needs a huge fist bump!

HASH(0xbb4fe450) out of 5 stars Intriguing, Unique, Mysterious, Beautiful, Read It!' 22 February 2016

Marry a complete stranger, you don't know anything about the person, looks, personality, etc. until your wedding day. Umm what the hell is this about, intriguing to say the least. Don't mind if I devour the book in one sitting. Hopeless Vows is a beautiful, mysterious, unique, fun, heartbreaking read all rolled into one. I'm a big fan of Rachael's I've read every single one of her books and she just get better and better. Job well done lady!!

Jillian Taylor is twenty eight, working at a fashion magazine as a columnist. She's lonely hasn't found the right person to spend her life with. She comes across a reality tv show "First Comes Marriage", looking for people to come on and have a panel of experts of the show match you up to a complete stranger, marry them and stayed married for eight weeks after that decide if you want to stay married . Sounds crazy right maybe for you but not Jillian she jumps on the opportunity. The process is grueling every experts grills you on everything about your life, from likes, dislikes, parents, your past. Jillian has secrets from her past and does whatever she can to bury them and never have them come out.

Austin sweet, caring, handsome, owns a franchise of gyms, hasn't found the right one to spend his life with either. He decides to sign up for a reality tv show in hopes of finding the one to spend his life with. Not the most conventional way to find love or a wife what's he got to loose. Austin's motto is everything happens for a reason and you should always live without regrets. I totally fell in love with Austin.

Sometimes fate can be a real bitch and throws you for a loop. That's how Jillian felt the day of her wedding walking down the aisle to her groom, she comes to complete halt and freezes. She wants to run away as fast as she can, but the contract she signed she has an obligation and has to marry and stay married for eight weeks. Eight weeks she can do it right.

Marriage is tough on anyone but especially when you don't know the person or love them. For Jillian and Austin they embark on this journey together it comes with ups and downs. The ups are perfect for Jillian, from the getting to know each other, the dates, flowers, Austin makes her feel special and appreciates her. Lurking in the shadows are the downs and at any moment they can erupt, what will happen then? Are these two strong enough to handle the past and Jillian's secret? When Jillian's comes out it's big, one that could potential destroy them as a new couple. A secret I never saw coming. Will there vows be hopeless or hopeful?

"Because they weren't you. I was looking for you my whole life and never knew it. "

HASH(0xbb50503c) out of 5 stars 4.5 Phenomal stars, such a a great different story 13 March 2016

The absolutely stunning cover of this book was the very first thing that grabbed me one day while scrolling on Facebook. I have never read anything by Rachael Duncan but the cover grabbed me enough to check out the synopsis and I must say after reading that, I knew I had to read this book.

Jillian hasn’t had an easy life. She lost her parents at an early age and was raised by her grandmother. She lived a very lonely life, never letting anyone truly get close except for her best friend Janey. So when she saw the chance of trying something different, having experts pick out the perfect match for you, then marry them for 8 weeks, she decided to give it a chance. Jillian didn’t get to meet Austin until she walked down the aisle to marry him but can the experts be right and know how to pick out a person’s perfect match.

From the moment I picked up this book I was hooked. I felt instantly connected to both Austin and Jillian. I loved that we got both of their POV’s to see all they were thinking and feeling through this eight week experiment. I really loved Jillian’s character and could really feel the struggles she felt toward her relationship with Austin. She never had it easy and from the small bits of pieces we get to see of her childhood we see that her home life was never great but she never plays that “I had a horrible childhood” card looking for other’s pity.

OMG Austin, how can I truly put into words how perfect he was. He was cocky and so sexy hot but he was so very sweet and totally swoon worthy. He was true utter perfection in my mind. He too lost his parents young but never played that childhood tragedy card. I loved how he showed Jillian how much he cared for her through his words and his actions and I loved that he didn’t push her for more when he knew she wasn’t ready. Did I not already say complete perferction!

Although I couldn’t wait to read this one wondering how the author would play their story out, I must say I went in wondering if this would be another typical “Insta-Love” story. I was pleasantly surprised with how well their relationship played out. Their chemistry was instant and they shared an emotional connection which grew quickly into so much more but the way the author built their connection up, even in the short time span the story played out in, it felt just right, not rushed and no insta love. The chemistry between these two was off the charts hot, but I love that the story didn’t center around them having sex, there was so much more depth to their story and a great bit of suspense with how things would play out with them. It definitely had me up later than I would have like turning to the next page hoping that would be the page that I would find out what was going on and what would become of the the two of them.

Overall a really fabulous well written book that I absolutely loved. I loved the creative freshness of the story, I loved dynamic and depth of the characters and most of all, I absolutely fell in love with the author’s writing. This may be my first book by this author but it definitely won’t be my last.

HASH(0xbb4feee8) out of 5 stars Nice Twist 7 March 2016
By Tifmich6 - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
After reading the blurb and thinking I've read a book with this similar description a few months ago, I was pleasantly surprised with Hopeless Vows. While the set up may be slightly similar to the other book, the rest of it was all Rachael Duncan.

After each having horrific childhoods, which have shaped the successful adults they are now, Jillian and Austin separately sign up for a wedding reality show to see if they can find what they've been missing in past relationships all of these years. Throwing themselves into moving on from the past has left little time for them to have real, lasting relationships and hope the panel of experts do a better job than they have themselves.

"Drinks are flowing, food is eaten, and songs are danced to. This is everything I ever wanted. And it's the thing I can't have." ~ Jillian

The minute she heads down the aisle to see her husband to be for the first time, Jillian realizes she knows who he is, yet can't stop the train wreck happening before her. He is a beautiful man and the more she learns about her new husband, his beauty is from the inside out. He's turned into a wonderful, successful, gorgeous man, who she doesn't deserve.

Eight weeks. That is the amount of time Jillian is contracted to stay with Austin before she can let him off the hook. She isn't the woman he's looking for and she knows that. However, after a few weeks, Jillian can see herself falling for this guy and it's getting harder and harder to say goodbye.

"Some people have gay-dar, I have Jill-dar. My heart beats differently when you're around."
~ Austin

So cheesy and I absolutely loved this guy! The more time they spent together, the more I wanted the past not to be true. We are teased with the secret constantly, however it became pretty obvious early on. What wasn't obvious was how Austin was going to react when finally faced with the truth.

The book is well written mostly from Jillian's point of view, but Austin gets his say as well. Rachael Duncan did a great job at balancing the romance, humor, sexy and mystery with their story. It was one of those books I couldn't finish fast enough to see how it was going to end. Hopeless Vows is a standalone with a nice epilogue to wrap things up.

HASH(0xbb4fec6c) out of 5 stars A flawless story of love and forgiveness 27 February 2016

This book was amazing, beautifully written, and one heck of a story!

I will admit, the cover is what grabbed me on this book, I mean.. it's GORGEOUS! But after reading the synopsis, I was like yes! I need to read it, and I am so happy I did!

The premise of this story is simple. Two strangers who were matched by experts, marry site unseen, and are expected to stay married for three months, but what happens when one of them has a secret that could destroy them, this is that story! In Hopeless Vows we meet Jillian and Austin, two of the strangers who agreed to this crazy social experiment and are to be married. They've never met each other, but once Jillian begins her walk down the aisle, she realizes who she is about to marry, and knows nothing good can come of this.

Throughout the book we get to see Austin falling hard for Jillian, and Jillian fighting the feelings she has for Austin, because she knows as soon as he finds out who she really is, he will hate her. I kept trying to figure out what she knows or who she is that could make him despise her as much as she thinks he will, and was not expecting the twist we got in this book. I had a feeling their pasts were intertwined, but nothing like how it ended up being.

I really loved watching Jillian and Austin fall in love, and get to know one another. Austin is an amazing guy and you can tell he truly loves Jillian, and the little things he does for her to make her happy made me swoon. Jillian's character was a little more difficult to read. We all know she's hiding something, and I wanted her to tell him so she and him could give this thing a real shot, but after finding out what it was, I understand her hesitance in having him know how intertwined their pasts were.

I fell in love with the premise of this story and the characters and thoroughly enjoyed the ride that Rachael Duncan took us on in Hopeless Vows. This story flowed beautifully and definitely gave me the feels. This was the first book of Rachael Duncan's that I've read and it definitely will not be the last. Hopeless Vows is a perfect stand alone novel to pick up over the weekend and check out.
