Product Description

France, 1668
Hélène de Bonnefoi’s spirit has been squashed by the ever-critical aunt and uncle who raised her. Serving as nanny and stand-in mother to her cousin’s child has saved her from the convent, especially after her cousin’s death. When suspicious accidents threaten the toddler, Hélène overcomes her near-blindness to seek the help of the child's father, a colonel in Louis XIV’s army.

Jean-Louis, Colonel de Cantière, has spent his life proving his worth, integrity, and honor, first to his family and now in the army. When his daughter’s caretaker appears in his camp during a siege, claiming someone is trying to kill the girl, his loyalties are sorely tested.

Hélène must convince Jean-Louis the threat is real. But the true danger is to the heart of a shy young woman who has always loved her cousin’s husband from afar and to the colonel’s desire to resist complicated emotions.

5.0 out of 5 stars I read and enjoyed the first book in this series 7 April 2016
By Mikeisabelle - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I was thrilled to be offered the opportunity to receive a preview copy of The Honorable Officer. I read and enjoyed the first book in this series, and when I read The Honorable Officer, I wasn't disappointed. This book seized my attention from the very beginning, and the plot’s twists and turns kept me reading to the very last page. Ms. Lodge’s use of historical detail added another layer of interest to an already engaging plot. As a person with poor eyesight, I felt an instant connection to Hélène and the challenges caused by her near blindness. I found it refreshing that the heroine was not the stereotypical “Beauty,” but a real woman with challenges and the strength she needed to face them. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

I received a free copy of this book. Well written, entertaining, sweet and feel-good. The family dynamics for all the characters are interesting to say the least. The storyline is is suspenseful and engrossing. I can't wait to read more in this series.

A good read. Philippe Lodge works hard to write with historical accuracy.
