Product Description

HOME AGAIN is a novella set in 1969 on the shores of the Albemarle Sound. April Harrington has fond memories of summers at her family home, Bliss. After her fairytale wedding disintegrates, it becomes her refuge—the one place where she can attempt to pull the unraveling threads of her life back together. Unbeknownst to April, the stately house has been neglected in recent years. The once-sturdy roof is leaking in a few dozen places, and the wharf is rotting. Nothing is the same as she remembers. Nothing except for Hale, a Viet Nam pilot who is haunted by a dreadful secret, and who is also her brother’s best friend, a brother killed in the conflict that is tearing the country apart.

In Hale’s presence, April finds familiarity and solace. They share grief for a lost loved one, and from the comfort of Hale’s arms, passion blooms. Yet, April’s future is unresolved. Her wealthy, arrogant almost-bridegroom wants her back and the ghosts of Viet Nam are whispering to Hale. Can they find new love in an old treasured home, the kind of affection and trust that lasts forever?

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected encounter 10 March 2014

A spell-binding story of a love which seemed to transcend time, space and circumstance. A refreshing story about April (who jilted her husband-to-be at the altar) and Hale (an emotionally wounded soldier) who meet unexpectedly after several years. A beautiful encounter, a heart-warming story.

A big fan of Kathleen Shoop’s books, I was eager to read her latest, the books in the Endless Love series. The first in this series, Home Again, was originally published as a novella, part of an anthology by several authors, entitled ‘Bliss’. Each author wrote about a particular group of people and a particular period in time, all associated with the North Carolina plantation called Bliss. Kathleen’s offering introduced us to April and Hale. It weaves a story that includes love, war, emotional scars and coming to terms. Home Again is a departure from Shoop’s previous books and writing style, but is a good story about healing and living after painful life events. This author is an amazing story teller, painting vivid pictures of her stories and characters. This is a really nice summer read.

Home may not necessarily be a place but it's the place where you feel safe and secure with those you love. Anyone who served or loved someone who served in the Vietnam War will relate and love this story. My love was KIA there in 1969 so I admit to shedding a few tears for those lost and the ones who came back haunted and their families.
