Quirke just gets better and better - though ironically in this book he got iller and iller (I know, not a word). I loved this, but I read it with a sense of dread because it felt horribly portentious, and I thought it was the last in the series. I was sure that Benjamin Black was going to kill his eponymous hero off, and though I did think it would in a way be a fitting end, I really, really wanted another book. And hurrah, imagine my delight when I discovered that there is one.
I won't give away the plot, but this book as with all the others is as much about Quirke and his very odd relationships as it is about the murder at the centre of it - poor Jimmy. It twists and turns and is wrought with angst and I just loved it.
