Santa knows best...

Waitress Lucy West is down on her luck at the diner. A fan of late-night television reruns, she's always dreamed of a nineteen-fifties style happily ever after. But, in reality, she's opted to settle. Barely scraping by on her meager salary and tired of going it alone, she figures marrying affable, yet distractible, Mitch as making the right move. Little does she know that Christmastime--and Santa--have other plans in store...

Bachelor dad William Kinkaid has his hands full with a young teenage son and a five-year-old daughter. Since losing his wife to cancer three years before, William's worked hard to keep things as upbeat and normal for the family as possible. After his child makes a special Christmas wish, William's stunned to awaken Christmas morning to find a beautiful blonde on the sofa. The woman can't remember a thing, and his kid thinks Santa brought her. Can William solve the mystery about who she really is, without giving away his heart?

William cinched the tie on his robe and paused at the bend in the stairs. Carmella raced down the steps ahead of him, dashing to the large beige sofa facing the fireplace. Two stockings brimming with goodies hung from the mantel.

"Oh boy, oh boy!" she cried, springing on her heels in a happy dance. Justin appeared on the landing beside his dad.

"What is it, fuzz brain?" he asked with a yawn.

Carmella looked up at them, her cheeks aglow. William had never seen her so excited. "He did it! Santa really did it!"

William descended the stairs feeling pleased with himself. He did know a thing or two about fathering, after all. "Well? Is it what you wanted?"

"Boy, is it ever," Carmella said with a happy gasp.

William strode around the sofa, feeling smug. Then, suddenly, he halted, nearly tumbling over the coffee table.

"Wow," Justin said, gazing straight ahead of him.

William stared in shock at the lovely blonde on the sofa who was clutching Carmella's teddy bear! She didn't look much over thirty, and was very reasonably put together.

The woman opened her eyes with a start and tried to sit, before quickly lying back down. "Where am I?" she asked with a pitiful moan.

"Don't you know?" Carmella asked, taking her hand. "Santa brought you home!"

She pushed herself upright, grasping the back of the sofa. "Home?"

"You're our new mommy!"

A sweet, traditional PG-rated romantic comedy.
Standard novella-length, approximately 28,000 words.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Holiday Bride ~ Holiday Brides Series ~ Book 2 18 October 2014

Lucy West had plans to be The Holiday Bride to Mitch, a guy she is settling for but finds less than ideal husband material. The big problem is that he doesn't want children and she really does. On Christmas Eve after she gets off work in the diner, she stops by the real estate office where Mitch works and he is too busy to spend this special night with her. He asks her to deliver some packages for a client on her way home, she slips in the heavy snow hits her head and the magic of Christmas takes over.

Lucy wakes up on a sofa in a home of strangers on Christmas morning and doesn't know her name. Carmella the young daughter of the house has wished for a new mother for Christmas and finds Lucy a perfect fit for her family. Lucy has the client's packages with the name Bridget on them so they call her that until she sees a real estate advertisement with Mitch's picture.

This tale is pure fantasy with the web page Justin built, hundreds of potential grooms, secret passage doors and all the Christmas celebrating. Lucy's visit to a home with a happy family, even without the mother makes her realize what she wants but you will have to read this for yourself to find out if she gets her happy family or a marriage to Mitch where she settles...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Holiday Bride 12 October 2012

Lucy is getting ready to take the plunge and marry the unreliable Mitch - after all, fairy tales aren't real. William Kinkaid is a widowed father of two who is struggling as a single father. When Lucy takes a tumble in the snow on Christmas Eve she wakes to find herself on the Kinkaid's couch with no idea who she is and how she got there. The Kinkaid family is equally confused, except five year old Carmella who proclaims Lucy to be exactly what she asked Santa for: a new mommy.

If you're like me and enjoy the marathons of sappy, soapy, happily ever after Christmas movies on television all December long, you'll probably like this. It actually reminds me of one those, but I can't recall the name of it. This is a sweet little magical Christmas story, it tugs on all the heartstrings and gives you a face full of cavities. Lucy and William, as well as the children, are all adorable, and this does have a few great moments of comedy as well.

This is a clean little romance and I really enjoyed it. I would absolutely recommend this little holiday treat!

This one while highly unlikely was hilarious. The search to find Lucy's real fiance is probably the best and most ludicrous part of the book but it definitely keeps a person turning pages regardless of how far fetched it is because of how funny the book was.

Ginny you did a good job of presenting the pain of accepting less than the best offers in life because you think there will never be any thing better. Then introducing all the Holliday fluff about wishes and dreams coming true, with a little angst and stubbornness to put a dramatic edge on the tale. But of course it turned out right, how could it not? Oh, did Carmella get her wish for twins? Giving a child half a wish, well that leaves hope for the future!
4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT PG LOVE STORY! 20 March 2015

I liked the fact Baird rated her story, PG, so I knew going in there would be no heat. But the short story had such a cute premise, it was worth my time. I also enjoyed the couple were older, H was 40 / h was 32, showing love & passion can occur @ any age. The daughter was so precious & the son .... a typical pain in the behind teenager! I was a bit annoyed the h, after realizing what she'd be missing by getting married to the wrong guy, was going to do it anyway. Gives women a bad image to be stupid & make a mistake KNOWING it's a mistake!

If you're looking for a feel good story of giving love a 2nd try... adding in both kids AND in-laws... this is a good choice.
