Product Description

How does a person decide if their own life is worth sacrificing to save another?

Shame holds onto a past that haunts him. Damaged by the parents that should have taught him unconditional love; they imprisoned him with violence and disregard. Even now, Shame struggles to find both the independence and love he deserves.

Knowing the blood that runs through him is stained merely by reputation, Hem seeks acceptance while he searches for ways to redeem himself in the eyes of those that have judged him his entire life.

Together the two have committed themselves to one purpose; protecting those they love the most.

Mace Cash is Hem’s younger sister. Although they share the same mother, Mace’s father despises Hem and his position within the family.

Sadey Lyons has loved Hem all of her life. Swearing to save herself for him, she’s determined to wait for him for as long as it takes; wanting only for him to see her as the woman she has become and not the little girl he’s always cherished.

When Hem and Shame meet Doc, the President of Lights of Peril Motorcycle Club, their lives take a dramatic turn. Finally escaping from a past that has controlled them, they find themselves living free.

But neither of them have known peace for long...

This is their story of love, loyalty, and heartbreak.

This book is one of two and does not contain an exact HEA as the reader may expect, yet.

Now available in the Lights of Peril series:
Book Two: The Way Home
Book Three: Toxic

OMG, loved this story. Hem and Shame were totally hot with a capital H!!!!!! Loved the writing style as well as all characters. I've read a hell of a lot of romance books, and I am so over predictable hea endings. This ending I was not expecting and even though I would have liked it to end another way it was also refreshing to have the ending totally unpredictable. I cannot wait for number 2. So hope she gets her hea. I'll be waiting with baited breath. Awesome job AC Bextor

I originally read this in an anthology and I was hooked on the series after that. I wouldn't say it is traditional biker read as in there are some differences in the way The Peril Boys do it. It's a heart warming, tear jerker, laugh out loud read. I loved this along with the 2nd and 3rd

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahhh! Such a crazy ride!! 5 April 2015

Holy mother of MCs! This book had a little of everything: love, heartache, suspense, jealousy, and delicious bad boys. Mace is our heroine, sister of Lights of Peril president, Hem and longtime admirer of his best friend Shame. Throw in her best friend Sadey, who’s been in love with Hem since forever, and you’re definitely in for a loud, messy, heartbreaking journey. A.C. Bextor has written an exciting and enthralling story that held me captive from start to finish.

Hem and Shame are both MC man perfection. Strong, protective, loyal, and absolutely YUM. Hem hit me hard with his sweet side, his huge heart and uncharacteristic kindness surprising me at every turn. Mace’s growth throughout Holding On was fantastic. The girl we met at the beginning of the story had a fire in her that was being contained. As her life with Peril tries and tests her, she’s transformed into someone fierce who holds her own and defends her family.

There were so many surprises in Holding On. A.C. Bextor did an amazing job of carefully constructing this story so that the end game wasn’t completely ruined, but in retrospect all of the hints along the way fit into the puzzle. I honestly didn’t expect to find myself crying while reading this story, but A.C. Bextor had settled these characters so deeply in me that their pain was my own. The ending of this book was a shock to my system. I’m not sure how this story is going to continue, but I know for a fact I’ll definitely be finding out.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really love your face...and this book =) 31 August 2014

I want to have a good cry and eat some chocolate....SOOOO depressed right now...what a way to end a book that sucks in the reader and makes you give a damn about the characters! I've had this book on my wishlist for a long time...but glad I waited for a big sale...and of course all my other TBR books were put on hold.
The story asks and then tries to answer the question "How does a person decide if their own life is worth sacrificing to save another?"
Hem loves his little sister Mace and has always been her protector and watched over her since she was a little girl. His best friend Shame has been by his side and in her life as well and the two of them watched over Mace and her best friend first with big brother's eyes...but as the girls grew up and became teenagers, each one fell into a deeper love that was destined to be much more than platonic. Mace's father despised her half brother Hem and when Mace grows up and becomes engaged to a man completely unlike her biker brother and more like her conservative father, life will never be the same.
SO many secrets and lies and deceptions make up this long and engaging story of love, loyalty and betrayal. I was emotionally drawn to these young women and really felt for how they fought and stayed true to the men they have loved since they were little girls but deep in my heart I could never feel quite comfortable that they would all get their HEAs.
There is a lot of violence and abuse against women, and the usual club life and mean club whore action that you come to expect in a biker book...but the parallel love stories between the two best friends and their girls are both romantic and full of angst and battles of wills. There are many side stories going on with other characters and I'm hoping we get more of them in the rest of the books.
I was left in shock at the think it will go one way...are indeed lulled into a false sense of security and then WHAM...punched in the gut! Not sure what the author has planned for the next books in this series...but I sure want to find out!

This book was such an incredible read. First of all, it was a really nice length and the author took adequate time to develop the characters and make me fall in love with some and hate others. I was cruising right along until BAM! An emotional storm hit and I realized that I can't remember the last time a book brought out that much emotion in me. This book didn't hide the ugly and celebrated the beautiful. I found this book incredibly captivating and entertaining. A welcome find after several so-so books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good story! 11 August 2015

I loved this book although it had a semi sad ending but ahem could do nothing less to save his family. Hem and Sadey finally get together, they admit to each other their love. Shame breaks down and admits to Mace(Hem's sister) that he loves her, Mace has loved Shame always-her love has grown. Lots going on in their MC, suspense, new recruits, marriage, celebration, then life takes a dark turn. Does have a semi happy ending. Very good

2.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Finish... 3 October 2014

I tried really hard to keep reading this one. I wanted to give up dozens of times but decided to forge on just in case I was stuck in a dull part of the book. I made it 37% and just couldn't continue. I love myself a biker romance. I do! This, however was just so elementary that I thought the characters where straight out of middle school. I really just don't understand all of the good reviews. I don't review all of the books I read, but I felt I had to properly inform the readers that it is not worth your time! 2 stars are only because it was a biker novel!
