You can read this as a standalone - we get very brief catch ups on the other characters which is great but not time consuming - although if you haven't read the other books in the series - seriously what are you waiting for.
The relationship between Kenzie and Harrison (I refuse to call him by his surname - his Mom was a Star Wars fan!!) was just the right pace, the sex was hot and throw in a very cute puppy, whom Harrison had so much fatherly pride over was just awesome.
Seriously guys what are you waiting for!!
Harrison Conrad is a world class climber, whose greatest joy in life was conquering the world’s most challenging peaks. That is, until 18 months ago when he watched his best friend and two other climbers die on the slopes of Everest. Survivor’s guilt sent him to a Buddhist Monastery where, for 15 months, he hid from himself, his friends and the world. Megs, who with her husband, founded and leads the Scarlet Springs Search and Rescue team, has had enough of Conrad’s hiding. And so this wonderful and intrepid lady travels across the world to bring him home.
Conrad has vowed never to climb again and, back in Scarlet Springs, again hides himself away, nursing his hurt, his grief, and his guilt. Kenzie, a Search and Rescue dog trainer, has a big soft spot for Conrad. When she acquires an adorable Golden Retriever puppy, Gabby, Kenzie talks Conrad into “babysitting” Gabby, hoping that having to look after the little pup will help him heal. Let me say, watching that little ball of fur work her way into Conrad’s heart—made me laugh, made me cry, made me sigh often.
Holding On is another triumph for Ms Clare. A warm and wonderful love story set in a small town readers of this series already know and love. Each new book tells us just a little more about the residents of Scarlet Springs, a community that never fails to support those who need help. Humour, love, a touch of suspense, camaraderie, romance, warm and wonderful moments, and some really hot moments! This first-class romance has it all. Oh, yes, did I mention puppies.
If you love contemporary romance and are looking for a great new series, I highly recommend you visit Scarlet Springs.
