Product Description

On a manhunt for a serial killer, FBI Special Agent Ileana Harper falls through a break in time, ripping her from the present and everything she knows. After forming an uneasy alliance with the man who comes to her rescue, she unearths long-buried family secrets. Spiraling out of control, she clings to memories of Tommy, her partner and best friend of eight years, to keep her sane, fearful she may never see him again.

FBI Special Agent Tommy Colton relies on Ileana to keep him grounded; she’s the closest thing he’s ever had to love in his life. When Ileana disappears, leaving no trace, he falls apart. Without her beside him, Tommy is about to face the biggest challenge of his career, if not his life.

While trying to find a way home, Ileana races to determine the killer’s identity and discovers he might be closer than she realized.

Will she risk everything to catch him, or sacrifice justice to find her way back to Tommy before it’s too late?

5.0 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh (suspenseful) air....absolutely loved it!!! 19 February 2015

I finished this book at, almost, two in the morning. It had been recommended to me by a good friend, but I had a few before it to finish up. I wish I would have read it sooner. I, honestly, can't say enough about this book. I love a good romance book, but I get tired of the same story told over and over. Hold My Heart was a breath of fresh (suspenseful) air. I fell in love with Ileana (Lil) and Tommy in the first chapter.

Lil holds herself back from people, thanks to her life growing up. However, she is one of the strongest, most independent leading women I've read. She does find herself needing Tommy though, which I loved. She is more than capable of taking care of herself, but like most of us, finds that her life works better with him in it. Tommy...well where to start?!? He could vary well be in my top 5 book boyfriends. He is completely swoon worthy and I fell head over heals for him. What's not to love, he was in the military, he's FBI, he is completely and utterly in love with Lil, and falls apart when she disappears. These two are amazing and yet you want to slap both of them. While, as a reader, you can see/feel the connection between the two of them and you want them to realize it, it takes them a little longer. They are both a "little" stubborn and just needed that push.

Will is another big character in this book, and as much as I believe he's a nice, honest guy and I want to like him, I just don't. Maybe because I fell so hard for Tommy. I think we will find out even more about all that in book two....that is not saying book one ends with some huge cliffhanger that leaves us hanging. It leaves us wanting book two, but questions are answered and you'll love every second!

I can not wait for Book Two and I can honestly say, I will read any and every story that Esther M. Soto releases for us. This was a beautiful, heart wrenching, nail biting, edge of your seat sitting, brilliantly written debut book!

5.0 out of 5 stars And I'm so glad that I did 8 June 2015

I've been meaning to make it to this book for a while and a couple of friends and even the author pushed me to read it faster. And I'm so glad that I did. It's a time travel, bad ass, romance, and suspense all balled into one kickass read. I know for a fact it will stay with me for a while and who even knows when the second one will come out. Hello cliffhanger! (But a good one) I loved it so hard I want the paper back. And I want Esther's signature in it.

I like the books that challenge me. I like reading outside of my comfort zone. The time travel had me stuck on starting this book and the police and law atmosphere really didn't appeal to me but that's where the phrase "don't judge a book by its cover" comes in.

It's so hard for me to pick a character that I loved the most because they all made the story so phenomenal. I'm very intrigued to see how she is going to play out the second book.

Ileana falls through time while chasing a suspect that her and her partner Tommy Colton (swoon) have been tracing for quite a while. What she discovers is shocking and the end will leave you speechless. Literally. My face was straight WTF at the ending. I actually didn't complete any of my morning tasks until I stayed in bed and devoured the last of this book and now I don't even want to read again until I get the second one.

5.0 out of 5 stars An unexpected gem! This book is a must read!! 5 September 2016

Hold My Heart is a book like no other. A complicated yet spellbinding and unique kind of love story that had me on the edge of my seat. I honestly did not want to put it down. The author masterfully combines a decades long mystery with time travel and an unrequited love. Something I never thought to even want to explore but now that I have finished book 1 in this series I am desperate for more.

We get to watch as Ileana Harper and her devoted partner, Agent Tommy Colton, ignore their true feelings as they try to solve a case of a mass murderer that is much older than they are. You get to see how their playful banter, their subtle flirtatious nature and their strong work ethic make them a success. As they get closer to figuring out this very frustrating case, they are also closer to figuring out their feelings for each other. But in a flash, both figuratively and literally, Ileana disappears and nothing is ever the same.

This book is told in alternating POV's as well as different time-frames. As we get the rich history between Ileana and Tommy, we are treated to some sweet times between them. These are juxtaposed to where Ileana travels back in time, to when the case she is working on got it's horrific start. Going back and forth between the past and present never felt confusing. Nor did it take away from the underlying and burgeoning love between Ileana and Tommy. It is all so seamlessly crafted and you find yourself completely immersed in each and every word.

I'm quite sure I have never read a story quite like this one and am over the moon that there is much more to come. I could kick myself for not reading this gem sooner. Book 2, Break My Heart will be out September 8th and I will be among the many fans clamoring to see what happens next.

Very highly recommended. A tale that I loved from start to finish.

5+++ stars for a job so very well done!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly profound and complex! 12 September 2016

The Heart Series by Esther M. Soto (Hold My Heart & Break My Heart)

These two books by Esther Soto have blown me away. In a nutshell - the story is riveting. It’s full of Emotion. Love. Heartbreak. Suspense. Most of all – it’s full of depth. The characters are so well defined that they jump right off the page. This tale is weaved so delicately that everything connects perfectly – yet continues to surprise the reader. Scanning the synopsis and starting the first book I had no idea how invested I would become sharing this epic journey with Ileana Harper.

Ileana is an FBI Agent who is tracking a serial killer. In pursuit of the killer she ends up traveling back in time. However, it’s about so much more than that. Ileana’s dysfunctional family, job, and military career all come together to create one amazingly dynamic character. During her investigation she’s left behind her best friend and partner Tommy Colton. Fearful she may never see Tommy again she races against time to catch a serial killer. Along the way she uncovers family secrets and tries to maintain a balance that won’t alter the past. That becomes more complicated as she grows closer to the man who is her only confidant. What transpires is a fast paced adventure that will keep your heart both swooning and pumping adrenaline throughout the novel. Hold My Heart manages to tie up most loose ends and just when you think you have a happy little ending you get hit with the cliffhanger...

Break My Heart jumps in head first back into Ileana’s life. Let me just say that the opening chapter left me gasping for breath. I’m not going to write about the synopsis for Break My Heart. I think it is important that you don’t read the synopsis until you have finished Hold My Heart. However, I want to talk about the profound complexity of this book. It really examines the depth of emotion that develops within those who serve in the armed forces and police force. I actually felt as if I was peering into a window of the souls of two people who had survived overseas military deployment. I now understand the sacrifice undercover agents make when they leave their families and engage themselves fully into their work. I now understand the desperation of the loved ones at home waiting and wondering. The feels in this book are unparalleled. Along with so much heartache is a love so strong that it withstood the test of time, trials, and tribulations. I’m cruising along devouring the book - looking at the percent left thinking that doesn’t match up – we can’t be near the end and BAM the cliffhanger comes out of nowhere! It’s one you’ll want to talk about immediately (I rushed to social media to talk to my book buddies). This is a book that I’ll be thinking about until the finale is released.

Esther Soto just moved to the top of my must read list. Let me know if there will be a midnight release party for the third book. I’ll be waiting in line for my copy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for fans of mystery, suspense, romance, and time travel! 20 April 2016

I read this book on a whim due to a suggestion from a fellow book "nerd". I broke from the norm and did not read any blurbs about it. I literally started reading, blind about it's content. I am so glad I made the jump. This book was fantastic and I've recommended it many times since I've read it.

The writing is great and storyline keeps you interested. I find many books these days to have dull sections of the books that make me want to stop reading. That never happened here. I fell in love with Ileana, Tommy, and Will so soon after each of their introductions into the storyline. I'm a huge fan of mystery and crime novels and I love that this has all of that, while throwing a little romance in for good measure. The romance is not Harlequin style and it isn't teenage sappy. It feel true and real and not too much for even the male readers to enjoy.

Do yourself a favor. Read this one!
