5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful picture book with a cleverly "hidden" message
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 January 2017
Little Heidi is the best at playing hide and seek. Even when she just relaxes on the sofa, you really have to look close to find her, she’s that good at hiding.
When she hangs out with her best friends, Freddie, Katie and Lizzie, she isn’t interested what they like to play. Heidi is always very quick to suggest “Let’s play hide and seek.” She just loves it and of course, she always wins.

Finally it’s her birthday and when it’s playtime, it’s again hide and seek time. Her friends search and search, but Heidi is just too good at it and they don’t find her until it’s time for them to go home. In the meantime, her friends had delicious ice cream and a lot of fun together, whereas Heidi was just busy hiding all the time.

It makes her think.

The next time Heidi and her friends are hanging out together, she immediately is on board and happily joins in, when they suggest a game they like best. Now, it’s Freddie’s, Katie’s and Lizzie’s time to shine in their favourite pastimes and Heidi discovers how much she enjoys to play something different for a change.

Hiding Heidi is a beautiful and clever picture book and children will have a lot of fun with it, because Heidi is hiding and they’ll have to find her.
Fiona Woodcock’s artwork is enchanting and cheerful and in most pictures our little Heidi has chosen her clothes very carefully and they match her surroundings perfectly. Kids will have to look carefully and need to pay attention to find the wee girl.

Besides the “Hidden Heidi” fun for the young one, there’s a good message here.
We all have our “little talents” and naturally, there are lots of things at which others are better. If we always just want our friends to join in what we like the most and to watch us win, it’s pretty disheartening for them and actually very boring, too.
We also don’t grow as a person, there’s no challenge here, and we don’t learn new skills or try out different things that way.

Hiding Heidi is a beautiful picture book with a cleverly “hidden” message and a lot of fun.
