Product Description

Who needs love when you have money?
This has been my motto. This is who I am. Who I’m expected to be.
All of that changed when he walked into my life and made me question everything. As my personal security guard, I can’t escape him or the way he makes me feel.
He makes me laugh.
He makes me second guess my choices.
He makes me want more from life.
I hide in a bed of deception to disguise myself. It used to be enough, but now I’m not so sure.
Can I sacrifice those who depend on me for my own happiness?
I’m Elizabeth Fitzgerald.
I’m a Senator’s wife.
And I hate my life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pockets of Promise... 1 April 2017

This was a solid 3.5 read for me. It was definitely intriguing and had me reading until the end.

Pockets of promise...that's what I kept thinking while I was reading. This book was full of pockets of promise. There were moments that I really liked; moments where I sympathized with the heroine because I could FEEL why she felt the way that she did. It was in the most degrading scenes between Elizabeth and Cal that I was totally there with her... But, on the flip side, there were even more moments when I didn't feel and I didn't sympathize with her because the writing didn't exactly give me the chance. There was a ton of narrative, a lot of TELLING, and it was frustrating because I wanted more than to be told.

Without giving away any spoilers, I'll simply say that the secret conflict made sense, but I don't know that it was developed to its fullest potential from start to finish. I don't really know how to say this any better without spilling the beans. I also thought for something that was so major in Elizabeth's reason for staying and being unhappy, it was resolved really neatly and I wasn't sure how I felt about that.

The ending, like, literally, the last page was the best. I didn't see that coming. As far as cliffies go, I applaud that one for sure!

I can't say much about this book without giving ALL of the stuff away.. this is definitely not a light-hearted romance. There are so twists and turns that you don't expect that happen right at the end. (SO i can't wait to start the 2nd book!!) I understand the need for the inner monologues and thoughts, but at time its was a little too much and i found myself skimming to get to the action! haha. Overall it held my interest, it made me feel, even if those feelings were anger haha!
Great job Rachael!!

5.0 out of 5 stars by far the best book I have read and some time 22 February 2015

By far the best book I have read and some time. Elizabeth was raised that money and security is the number one priority in a marriage not love. She marries senator Callahan Fitzgerald a narcissistic fool who is now running for president. Cal always a total jackass who only thinks of himself. After a break in at their house Cal hires Alex and Ex Special Forces Agent to be Elizabeths body guard. Alex is the most handsome man with striking blue eyes that seem to see down into her soul. Elizabeth is drawn to him immediately but she knows she will never leave Cal she can't even though she has fallen in love with Alex. Elizabeth is not the type to have an affair so she and Alex become really good friends he is someone she can talk to and can actually be her true self with. Cal is just a very mean man who continually be littles her and puts her down yet she still there until she finds a text on his phone. Elizabeth still can never leave and be with the love of her life Alex. Then comes the cliffhanger. I cannot wait for the second book of the series I couldn't put the first book down finished it in one read. I hope the next book kills off the narcissistic jerk.

Rachael Duncan should be on the best sellers list. She is a very talented author whose books have gripped me from the beginning to the end. I have yet to read one of her books that I could put down before I finished, and might I say I have read all of her books.
5.0 out of 5 stars Hidden in Lies 20 June 2015

OMG, this story will keep you on the edge of your seat! I am so saddened hoe a parent can influence their child that money is more important than love in a marriage. Now Elizabeth is stuck in a loveless marriage with Cal, who is in politics, he belittles her every chance he gets, treats her terribly, has a mistress on the side. She finally decides to leave him, and he stops her, threatening anyone close to her with their lives!!!!!!!!! A must read, getting ready to start next book, so cannot wait.

Ok where do I begin....I hated Cal with extreme castration via dull butter knife..I had a love/hate relationship w/Elizabeth...and OHH Alex....
Elizabeth's mom instills she should marry for money and security...well she did and if I go any further I'll spoil the story...that being said CAN NOT WAIT for book 2
