This is a very well-written and easy to understand book.
If you haven't heard the term "functional medicine" yet, it's a systems-based approach to treating a patient as an individual; creating a health care provider/patient partnership. In short, it's the opposite of One Size Fits All Medicine = Here, take this pill...NEXT!
Sadly, we have fallen into a trap where we let insurance companies dictate what health is, based on what they'll pay for. Does anyone think that their health insurance company has their best interest at heart? In the book Dr. Botts says: "True health insurance doesn't come from paying a premium. It comes from investing a little time, effort and money into a healthy lifestyle. Invest in your health now or pay for it later."
If you genuinely care about your health, you need to proactively address little health issues before they become bigger ones. If you already have some kind of auto-immune disorder, hormonal problem or fatigue issue, moving toward a functional medicine approach is the way to go.
This book separates hormonal symptoms into major categories. Genius move! Several types of hormones can be causing problems at once, but you might see yourself as fitting one hormonal profile over another. That's super helpful when you're trying to figure out what to do first to get back to a baseline level of health.
I'd highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to take a serious, practical approach to creating a greater level of health and wellness for themselves.
