The first book in New York Times bestselling author, Donna Grant’s sexy Sons of Texas series!

When his aunt and uncle are murdered, his father is kidnapped by a dangerous Russian faction and his high school sweetheart’s life is on the line, Navy SEAL Owen Loughman will stop at nothing to keep her safe.

The hero's homecoming.

Owen Loughman is a highly-decorated Navy SEAL who has a thirst for action. But there’s one thing he hasn’t been able to forget: his high school sweetheart, Natalie.

After more than a decade away, Owen races home when danger threatens everything he holds dear. What he doesn’t expect is to come face-to-face with Natalie again. Now he’ll risk it all to keep Natalie from harm—and win her heart.

Natalie Dixon has had a lifetime of heartache since Owen was deployed. Fourteen years and one bad marriage later, she finds herself mixed up with the Loughmans again.

With her life on the line against an enemy she can’t fight alone, it’s Owen’s strong shoulders, smoldering eyes, and sensuous smile that she turns to. When danger closes in, how much will she risk to stay with the only man she’s ever loved.

Donna Grant is a new to me author, but she had me at SEAL.

I am not going to lie, whilst this book started with a bang, it too me a while to get into the swing of the story.

But once I was in there, it was full throttle action.

I adored our MCs Own and Natalie, the unresolved feelings between them, the tension ramping up as their story continued.

There is mystery, suspense and drama all rolled into one book, and I never knew what was going to happen next.

And just when I thought we were going to get answers... boom - we were cliffied!

But it is not too long until the next book, The Protector is with us. Can't wait to see what happens with the Loughman family next.

3.0 out of 5 stars A nice set up but not totally pulled together 17 December 2016

My first Donna Grant! I couldn't resist the cover for The Hero. Goodness it's yummy! I mean, seriously pet-able! lol And it was a decent read, too, though I did have a couple quibbles.

What I Liked:

---The set up. Three military brothers suddenly being brought home to Texas-- after over a decade away-- to help find their estranged father who had been kidnapped by terrorists along with a bioweapon.

---And the characters. While there was nothing overly remarkable about any of them they were still nice to spend time with and all good people.

---It was fairly quick paced. There's not a lot of down time as they deal with the bad guys and trying to figure out the missing pieces of the puzzle on who's behind kidnapping their dad and how to find him.

---The heroine held her s*** together when things went sideways. She didn't have any TSTL moments or irrational bits. It had me throwing my hands in the air going YES!!!!! lol

What I Struggled With:

---The romance relied almost entirely on them having been in love 14 years earlier. Then after a bad break up and not seeing each other once in 14 years they're magically in love and planning the future together within like 2 days. Erms.

---No condoms even though they were just "hooking up" and neither wanting anything serious.

---There wasn't enough resolution for me. The romance concluded but the series arc just wasn't totally satisfying. Nothing really resolved on that. They got their piece of the puzzle and basically handed things off to the next sibling and his heroine.

---There were bits I just didn't feel were well thought out. Or, I guess, you could say where the writing wasn't tight? Like they have a ranch with numerous animals and ranch hands and after a death they give the ranch hands time off. Erms. Who's going to care for all of the animals since hero/heroine are off saving the world? Or bits that really felt loose then after the fact they'd come in with an explanation on how it happened. It felt like it relied too much on convenience for explaining some things in order for other things to happen.

Okay. so it sounds like I really hated it. But I didn't. It was a decent enough read but squarely in the average category for me. That is not a horrible place to be and I liked it enough that I do want to read book two and see where things go for this group of brothers. Overall it was a nice diversion even with the quibbles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Donna Grant has started a spectacular series off in Book 1 with action, suspense, drama, and some too hot to contain romance. 28 December 2016

Owen Loughman has lost two members of his family, his father is missing, he has been taken out of his Navy SEAL assignment and gathered with his brothers to figure out is holding his father and where the secret weapon everyone wants is hidden. What Owen never expected was to be reunited with the love of his life, Natalie Dixon. Owen walked away from her years ago for their own good and to pursue his military expertise, so finding out his father had employed Natalie in some capacity is as shocking as everything else that is going on.

What Natalie wants is to be professional with Owen and pretend like she does not still harbor the feelings of yesteryear even though she absolutely does. The distraction of him so close is making it hard to focus on what her job here right now is to do, find the weapon and neutralize it while figuring out who has kidnapped Owen’s father. She is a professional and nothing will deter her from the mission but one more kiss from Owen and her mind may just turn to mush. They were once the hottest couple in town and now it seems all these years later that fact still remains true.

As she does her part and Owen handles the bad guys with his brother the actions they take move things in the direction of secure and contain. Natalie knows her stuff as well as Owen knows his so when the heat comes raining down on them they are ready, willing, and able to fight side by side working on the good stuff later.

Donna Grant has started a spectacular series off in Book 1 with action, suspense, drama, and some too hot to contain romance.
5.0 out of 5 stars I really loved this story! 1 July 2017

Donna Grant has a way of writing that's always gets to me. This book is no different. It's a love story and also one of second chances. It gives us insight into a military family and how they each deal with the heartache of loss . Each of the three brothers are strong, stubborn, beautiful men who lose their way from each other until the moment a loved one is in danger. At that point, the only thing that matters is working together, which bridges the gap that had separated them for so long. Love is such an important part of the story,. Love of family, love of country and the love of an amazing woman. It all comes together as they have to fight together against many enemies to save two of their own. It's explosive and frightening, at times, but once they vow to get something done, nothing can stop The Hero and his siblings from completing their mission, no matter how dangerous. I really enjoyed the first book in this series and can't wait to begin the next. Readers will not be disappointed with this one.

Ok I'm a paranormal girl. And I really didn't think I would like this series but I do. Go figure. Usually anything cops and robbers I run the other way. But being a huge dragon fan. I thought I would give book one a chance. I'll be honest I almost put it down after about 10 pages but I'm glad I didn't. These are three men you really want on your side. The plot of this story is great. And very original. I'm off to book two. Now I want to know lol.
