This is the second Pamela Belle book that I have read and I will continue with this series, and, I think, any other books of hers that I can find! I like her style of writing - there are no quick fixes to problems, indeed in this book we have moved on six years, during which Silence has had to live with her controlling husband until the time of his death, all the while loving the man who also loved her, the absent Nick. There has been no communication whatsoever between them during that time, and their eventual coming together was poignant and heart-warming. We see the siblings growing up, and are introduced to Silence's brother and sister - her sister plays a pivotal role in this book. Some of the scenarios stretch the imagination, but the delivery is utterly absorbing. Rachael is very much in the forefront of this story - one cannot like her, or forgive some of her actions, but she is a tortured soul and therefore earns some sympathy!
There is also a lot of humour - especially the foul-mouthed Royalist parrot! I gather that the next book skips along quite a few years, and I will be interested to see what the author makes of the next chapter in English history.
