"A bad girl heroine steals both the show and a highwayman's heart in Darcy Burke's deliciously wicked debut."

"Captivating and romantic. Miranda is my favorite kind of heroine--witty, resourceful, and a little bit wicked--and I loved Fox for loving her as I much as I did."
--Jackie Barbosa, Award-Winning Author

"Sexy and wonderfully romantic. Her Wicked Ways is a debut every fan of historical romance should add to their to-be-read pile!"

Lady Miranda is sent to stay with her aunt & uncle in the country as punishment for her reckless behaviour with the London Ton. On the way there, their carriages are held up by a highwayman, & as she has no money or jewellery, she offers him a kiss, & what a kiss it is!
In Wooten Basset she's forbidden to socialise, only attending church & helping out at the local orphanage with her cousin, Beatrice. Although she cannot forget the highwayman's kiss, spoilt & outspoken Miranda slowly falls for the owner, a kind & thoughtful, but impoverished landowner. However, she knows they are unsuited: she's a rich society girl, the darling of London; he's a "country bumpkin" with no taste in clothes. Furthermore, even if she wanted to, her parents would never agree to such a match...
"Fox" owns two large properties & 2000 acres of land, but he has no title or money. He spends most of his time (& what little money he has) at the orphanage which his ancestors set up. He also moonlights as a highwayman to further fund the orphanage. He decides to court Miranda, but when she flatly turns his proposal down, desperation forces him to don his mask again, compromising both of them...
I was hooked with the story from the beginning, & read well into the night! The epilogue rounds things off nicely, even though we're not told of Miranda's relationship with her very cold parents. There's an excerpt from the second book, which is about Miranda's brother, Jasper, whom she worships, even though he seemed quite cold at times in the first book. Looking forward to reading his story.
It’s so nice to read a book where the hero is not the type of playboy hunk out to save a damsel in distress.
Darcy has produced a wonderful story , it takes you from the London scenes of the Ton , to the backwaters of Wootton Basset .
Fox is a man who all he desires is enough money to see his orphans dressed, well and under a roof that doesn’t leak , however his challenges are vast .
Miranda Is daughter to a Duke , spoilt ,stubborn and beautiful but in need not only if taming but of love and affection, something she has never really known .
This story is a real page turner, you never know what’s coming next it a real , will they won’t they situation that keeps you reading .
Great start to the Secrets and Scandals Series
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to submit a review
However, there were appealing aspects to the story - for me the big surprise came near the end when we discovered that there was no big surprise! What we had been told about a main character was not overturned.
I absolutely loved Fox and the way he reacted to Miranda. What girl doesn't love a smoking hot hero that works his butt of to save orphans?
I know I point it out a lot, but there were a few typographical and grammatical errors (it seems that it is just about impossible to find an ebook without them), and I it would be nice to seem them fixed.
I snagged this as a freebie download, but I would happily pay to buy this offering by Ms Burke and am looking forward to reading the whole of her series, Secrets and Scandals.
For me a 4 star read all the way, and highly recommended.
