Product Description

Their competition has never been so irresistible

The last person Ellie McDermott wanted to run into after returning to her hometown is Finn Donovan, her high school nemesis and the guy she crossed the line from enemies to lovers with one night years ago. Now ex-military, tattooed, and still sexy as hell, Finn is a complication Ellie doesn't need-she needs to concentrate on saving her family business.

Finn's entire life, Ellie was there, going head-to-head with him in every class, bee, and test. So it's no surprise she'd show up just as he was about to take over her father's struggling business. It is a surprise, though, that his attraction to her is even more explosive than it had been. Acting on their attraction is one thing, but Finn has to turn a profit to save his own family, and nothing-not even love-will get in his way.

This book is what I call sweet sexy read. Small town with 2 people returning to small town and reconnecting. The. Business that both couples ran and competed against each other was an unusual choice but genuinely interesting. Great dialogue that developed the romance which is what I look for. The secondary characters and back stories were excellent & dealt with some very modern issues with care and compassion. You will enjoy this book and I look forward to the stories of Devon and Cade Donovon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Engaging, emotional and well written romance 23 July 2016

Her Summer with the Marine is the 1st book in the Donovan Brothers Series and was enjoyable. I really liked both Ellie and Finn and the relationship that they had together but the thing I found the most interesting was the very different way that they viewed their past. Ellie always thought of Finn as an competitor who she had one bonding moment with that led to her giving him her virginity only for him to ignore her leave town soon after. Finn looked at their relationship completely differently. He appreciated the competition and the way it pushed him and more how it helped take his mind off of his troubles at home. He looked at their night together as the one time when someone showed him that they truly cared about him. This difference was interesting and led to how they viewed each other when they both come home and end up as competitors for the same customers. Both Ellie and Finn had childhood issues and now have adult issues to deal with. Ellie is dealing with her father who has Alzheimer's disease and her responsibility to care for him. Finn is dealing with his mother who he finally convinced to leave her abusive husband and now lives with him. They both have very strong reasons for needing their business to succeed but that pits them against each other. I enjoyed the push/pull of the attraction vs. the knowledge that one would put the other out of business eventually. The book was well written and I felt for both characters and couldn't help rooting for them. It also briefly introduced the other two Donovan brothers and I look forward to reading their books as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars An amazing story of rivalry, heart breaking loss, and heated passion. Don't miss it. 16 December 2014

Ellie McDermott had given her virginity to Finn Donovan when she was 17. Being naive, she thought that meant they had something special going. Then she found him going to the senior prom with another girl. After that, he left town without saying a word to her. She left Harmony Hills and has now come back 9 years later due to her father needing her.
Finn had his reasons for what he did. He never even knew that he had hurt her. His mind simply didn't work that way. What he knew was that Ellie challenged him to be his best and do his best. It was always a competition to try to outdo each other. And in doing so, brought out the very best each had to offer. When he did return home, it was to deal with the past and he started a funeral home and was in direct competition with Ellie's father, Mark. Finn had offered to buy him out twice. He needed to succeed. This town couldn't support two funeral homes. Now, he had to deal with Ellie and the competitive spirit was back. Ellie refused. She was determined to succeed in running her dad's business and run him out of business.
Problem was...the spark of attraction that they had experienced as teens towards each other was nothing like the inferno they were experiencing each time they got near each other. Combustible is phrasing it mildly.
I wasn't expecting what I got from this book. The humor, the laughter and the blazing heat between these two characters will have you jealous. The story itself covers a couple of very serious life issues. You will run an emotional roller coaster with this one. All I can say to the author is well done. A book that will draw you in until the last word of the last page.

4.0 out of 5 stars Life in a small town 14 December 2014

Ellie returns home from Pittsburgh to take care of her father, who has Alzheimer's. Finn returned home months earlier from the Marines to open a business and protect his mother from his abusive father. They competed at everything growing up and find themselves competing again since Ellie' s father and Finn are both morticians in a town too small to support two funeral homes.

This is book one in a trilogy about the Donovan brothers, but can easily standalone. The characters are likeable and the storyline is engaging.
5.0 out of 5 stars An Awesome Read! 7 April 2016

I loved reading Her Summer with the Marine (Donovan Brothers Book 1), all about Ellie McDermott & Finn Donovan frenzies from high school & business rivals. Ellie has come home from Pittsburgh because her dad is very sick. While she's home she gets a visit from the guy who stole her innocence, and he has a proposal to buy her family business out! Her family owns McDermott Funeral Home, she knows she can run the business/people side but can't do the mortician side because she doesn't have license. Her father has a very good team that he pays for the mortician side, but she has a very good job in Pittsburgh and isn't sure she can take on this business! However she needs the money to keep her dad comfortable in a nursing facility while he recovers. The problem is this is a very small town of less than 5000 people and the economy can't afford two funeral homes. Hence why Finn is trying to buy her out! The author wrote a very interesting story, and the characters make said story come to life! I loved reading this book from cover to cover and could not put it down. The chemistry between Ellie & Finn is off the charts, and their rivalry is hysterical! Come fall in love with Finn & Ellie because I did. I can't wait to read book 2!

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth Your Time 22 July 2015

Except for the title and a few references in the book you wouldn't know there was a Marine in the story. But that's okay because this is a book about two people coming back together in their hometown under circumstances not of their own doing.

Ellie and Finn's story is told in such a way that you don't mind these characters are both in the funeral business, running competing funeral homes in their hometown. What starts out as healthy competition turns into healthy fun between them.

It's written in a way that when the bad things come out and bad news comes for Ellie you want to cry. This book is definitely worth a weekend of your time whether on the beach on in a lounge chair in the backyard.
