The Henge is a story about the members of the Noble Village of the Arts and their neighbors. It has been foreseen and announced in a prophecy; it is time for Concinnity Song and her two brothers bring home the singing stone once it is located. One of her brothers discovers the singing stone at the bottom of a quarry filled with water. The stone holds magical powers. In order to protect the world, the stone must be harvested and moved to a specific location by the end of the solstice. The magical power of music and the stone’s ability to sing makes transporting it easier but no less complicated.
Among some, there is jealousy and a driven need to possess the huge stone. Time is of the essence. Not only is a battle fought but there is a question as to whether the world will survive the storms and fires that will come if they fail in their quest to raise the stone properly.
Devra Robitaille builds the story slowly but with riveting details. Robitaille carefully weaves the story around the characters, developing both with a realism that enables the reader to vividly visualize both through her words. The message of the story is simple yet timelessly true. Robitaille throws in a few twists and keeps building the action and excitement until the last page.
A must read! I have read several of Robitaille’s book and find them thoroughly engrossing and engaging. She knows her audience and knows how her craft well. I enjoy her talented writing and dexterity in telling stories.
Away to the north of the Noble Village of the Arts there is, buried in a jade lake at the bottom of a quarry, a stone with magical properties—a stone that sings. Concinnity Song and her twin brothers, along with the council of twelve, must mobilize all the hunter-warriors to raise the stone and transport it across the land, and build a henge to protect it, according to the covenant with the ancestors for the future of civilization. To do this they must tap into the true tone that will levitate the singing stone and its companion blue stones out of the quarry. As they travel across the land with the stones, the people come together and create an amazing civilization on a journey that will culminate in one brilliant night, the night of the solstice, when all the stones will be raised together to form…The Henge.
