Will I enjoy this series?
If you have enjoyed any of the following books/series then you will love the Saven series: Kricket, Lux, Broken Skies, The Fifth Wave, Alienated, The Host, Gravity.

"Recommended to fans of The 5th Wave, Insignia, Across the Universe, and Unwind series." ★★★★★ Schuyler Central High School Library

Note from the author:
This is a fully completed series.
This novella is an optional novella, however, I recommend reading it after Saven Defiance to maximize reading enjoyment.
This novella is narrated exclusively from Axton's point of view and it details some of Ax and Sadie's backstory. It also features some of the characters you have come to know and love from the main series.
This is not a standalone story and should only be read as part of the series.

A backstory about Sadie and Axton’s relationship on Tor, The Heir and the Human has everything you could want in a book – action, romance and suspense, with some inevitable anguish thrown in as well. The secret plan to evade Griselda’s wishes creates powerful hooks and tension, drawing the reader in, and the supreme flow of the writing completes the novella to make it exceptionally gripping.
The small range of characters is by no means a disadvantage, as we get to discover more about those who feature, helping us to understand them much better in the main books. The reader pleasantly sees more of Izzy, also meeting Blade, in addition to discovering more about Axton and Sadie, whilst detestable characters like Rhys show up as well. With greater knowledge of the characters, having watched them progress through the story, empathising with them and their emotions is much easier. I find that this appreciably enhances a book.
The plotline is mainly based on Axton and Blade’s plan, which remains unknown to the reader until close to ending. This provides a constant supply of exciting tension and suspense during the novella, with plenty of lively action and drama to develop other side plots. The pace is perfectly balanced, steadily moderate before going at full speed and ending on a high. The storyline also grows of its own accord, not forced in a specific direction, so overall it was really difficult to put this novella down.
This Saven story is chock-full of detailed descriptions of Tor, and the exquisite nature reserve – which I’m sure everyone wishes they could visit – as well as everything and everyone else. Visions of the world are so deep that fiction and reality become one.

If you love Axton’s character or still feel on the fence about him, then this novella is a must!

As much as I hate her, I love Griselda. Female villains seem exponentially more evil, and her behavior throughout this novella had my jaw dropping a number of times—especially the end! Wow. That ending. I had an idea about how this would end after reading Saven Defiance, but after getting further attached to Siobhan’s complex characters, I found myself feeling heartbroken all over again.

Like I said for my review of Saven Defiance, I want Ax to finally have some happiness in his life. Even when he was with Sadie, he was constantly worrying about Logan and her departure back to Earth. His mother has never given him the love he deserves, and after finding out who his father is in Saven Defiance, well nothing needs to be said there. Basically, I worry he is going to take a turn for the worse, and I wish he could somehow get his version of Sadie back.

Please note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Heir and the Human by Siobhan Davis is a bonus novella of the Saven series written from the point of view of Axton a.k.a Ax, who readers met in Saven Denial (Saven book #2.5). It also includes other Saven series favorites such as Sadie, Logan, Izzy and Dali, and introduces Blaze among other new characters. It is the most emotionally charged piece of the series and I can now see why the author admitted to her street team that she cried while writing it. Based on the timeline of the series, the events in The Heir and the Human (Saven series #3.1) technically occur before the events of Saven Denial, however, I would recommend reading Saven Denial first to better understand the events in this novella.

When I fall in love with a series like I have with the Saven series, I simply cannot get enough of the characters. Bonus novellas are a perfect way to get my fix of additional page time with these beloved characters, get further insight into their backstories and get a clearer picture of the entertaining yet complex plot. The Heir and the Human will fulfill this need and more for fans of the series. I read the entire novella in one day, proving how much I craved more Ax page time. He is A+ fictional boyfriend material and the scenes between him and Sadie reflected some of the most authentically charged chemistry that I have read in a long.

The final chapter ripped my heart right out of my chest, but it was worth it to read more about Ax and Sadie. It is not that I don’t like Logan, the other love interest in the Saven books, I just prefer the type of relationship between Sadie and Ax. Logan and Sadie are a love and passion at first sight type of relationship.

*I received an eARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.*

*Major spoilers for those who haven't read the previous books in this series.*

I was a little hesitant to read this book at first seeing how Axton wasn't my favourite character but at the same time I was curious to learn what happened back at the time when Sadie was at Tor. This book definitely didn't disappoint.

Axton is aware of her mother's heinous plans for Sadie. If she goes through her plan, Sadie will go through a memory wipe process before she is returned to earth for her mission to destroy Logan. But Ax and Sadie are both in love with each other and they are not ready to lose each other yet. Will Ax be able to save Sadie in time.

This book is narrated from Ax's POV. We get to see Sadie before she was returned to earth. So many experiments were conducted on her and she had to go through tough training. Seeing Ax and Sadie together was a little weird because I can't bear to see her with anyone except Logan. From this one thing is clear, whoever Sadie loves and cares about, she is passionately devoted to them. But I liked Ax when she was with Sadie, he was a better person with her.

Nonetheless I did like their friendship but Ax knew everything her mother was doing, maybe not the actual motive behind it but he knew everything beside that. He did try to save Sadie from his mother but I wish he had tried harder because Sadie went through a freaking lot! I loved Sadie's friendship with Izzy and I was heartbroken to see what happened when they tried to break the rules.

But...
