Spies and Traitors; Love and Betrayal!

The world of spies and traitors-love and betrayal converge on the path to the ultimate betrayal—the treachery of the American's most infamous turncoat, General Benedict Arnold!

The cry for Freedom is at its darkest hour!

After the devastating loss at Saratoga, the British respond with a vengeance, aiming at taking a strategic hold on the South. In New York, the American spy network is in turmoil, leaving Rupert Arnett to pick up the pieces. Never has it been more dangerous, but never has the stakes been higher.

Under siege by the RedCoats, Charles Town collapses, giving the Americans their most humiliating and worse defeat of the war. When Dr. Jonathan Corbett is taken prisoner, Rebekah faces her greatest personal challenge...for the only way to save her husband's life is to betray his trust. She turns to the one man Jonathan despises the most, General Marcus Durham.

On the return of Major John Andre to New York, Rupert recognizes something is amiss. The British intelligence seems to know Washington's every move. Pressure mounts on him to discover what the British have planned. Amid untold dangers, Rupert turns to his one operative that can uncover the truth.

Now, time is of the essence. The crucial hour of the revolution is upon the Americans. There is a traitor in their midst. Can the network determine who the traitor is before all is lost? At what cost? Who one will pay the ultimate price for the cry of freedom?

5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting! 31 May 2014
By Jackie Weger - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
The Heavens Shall Fall is utterly riveting. Oh my, Jerri Hines can layer words on page like you would not believe. I loved this story. Ms. Hines did not put a word or an historical fact wrong in this sweeping saga of the War of Independence. I am ready the the last book in the series--then I'm going to start reading them all over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Series for History Buffs and Romance Lovers of the American Revolution -- Jerri Hines is quite the writer 28 May 2014
By BOOKTALK WITH EILEEN - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
My Review: This book was no less spectacular than the three preceding ones. It carries us further through the events of the American Revolution introducing new characters and more intrigue. As characters were introduced I’d check the internet to know if these military officers existed or not. Ms. Hines builds such a convincing story that you have to remind yourself that it is fiction, albeit the historical characters were real and the events of the war were, too.

Ms. Hines captures the ennui of the South with their resistance of revolutionary passion which led to the capture of Charles Town. And she captures again the new spirit which erupts after the turn of Benedict Arnold to the British side.

Her well-developed characters express poignantly the terror and strife of war. Even the most villainous characters were developed to show they, too, had a softer side and not all villainous actions can be painted with the same brush.

When I finished the book I felt sorrow for such a war pitting neighbor against neighbor, taking sides – either Loyalist or Rebel, the secret spying that took place to try to win an advantage, all the lives that were destroyed through loss of family. And with those thoughts I concluded we should take pride and care of our young nation, not yet 225 years old. So much blood has spilt giving us the life we enjoy today. We stand upon its foundation and should fervently protect it and what it stands for—life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for ALL—always striving to reach this goal.

I encourage all history buffs to read this series. I highly recommend it. It has prodded me to further research this dangerous time in our history and understand the events that made the United States a nation. Additionally, I look forward to reading Ms. Hines series Tides of Charleston, also dealing with the American Revolution.

About the Author: Winds of Betrayal series was inspired by Jerri Hines' fascination with a revolution filled with intrigue, spies, betrayal and romance. The American Revolutionary War Series-Winds of Betrayal is a family saga that follows the lives of two siblings, Jonathan and Hannah Corbett, and their path to freedom. The series includes The Cry For Freedom, a free ebook, along with Embrace of the Enemy, and Kiss of Deceit. The fourth installment of Winds of Betrayal was released May, 2014-- The Heavens Shall Fall. The fifth book of the series will come out sometime 2015, entitled Set Fire to the Rain which takes the American Revolution to the end.
Jerri Hines also has another historical romance series, Tides of Charleston, likewise set during the American Revolution: The Judas Kiss, The Promise and Another Night Falls.

Jerri Hines writes under other pen names including Colleen Connally. Under Colleen Connally, she has written a historical romance series, Secret Lives, which is riddled with romantic suspense and a touch of paranormal. The Secret Lives Series consists of Seductive Secrets, Broken Legacy, and Seductive Lies. Fragmented, Book One Boston's Crimes of Passion, marks Ms Connally's first contemporary suspense thriller.

She began using a pen name, Carrie James Haynes, when she released the fantasy saga, Whispers of a Legend. Shadows of the Past, a free ebook, is the first in the series. She is excited about Whispers of a Legend, a sweeping epic fantasy saga filled with adventure and romance. Whispers of a Legend, Part One-Shadows of the Past and Part Two- The Path Now Turned, Part Three- Vision of Destiny, and Part Four-Time of the Nuxvenom has been released in this series. She also has released a paranormal suspense, Dreamscape.

Note: Jerri and I have exchanged a few emails and she shared some information I thought to pass along. In her words:
I love history, especially the American Revolution. It has fascinated me for a long time. Our founding fathers did an excellent job in creating our country, especially after studying other revolutions. Usually, chaos follows. Although they had challenges, the Founding Fathers had a vision.
I have mixed historical figures in with my imagination in my books. I have changed a few names around such as Rupert Arnett I took from the real life Robert Townsend as well as Giles Cooper I modeled after Austin Roe. I didn't feel comfortable changing their life history so I just modeled my characters after them.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read in The Heavens Shall Fall! 3 June 2014
By TC Yip - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Having read the author's previous three books in the series, I couldn't wait for this book to be released! I absolutely love how she brings it all together. You can't help but feel compassion for the characters whether they are the Americans or spies or traitors. It makes you appreciate all over again the historical significance and impact of the real people behind the characters who lived these lives more than two hundred years ago. What a great book! Love Jerri Hines' creativity in bringing the story together!

Another fabulous book! It was like riding a roller coaster, never knowing what's around the corner. Now I'm just dreading having to wait a year for the next one. I don't like to go in to details and give anything away, but I recommend this book highly. Both for historical fiction and romance:). Great Job Jerri:)

I have enjoyed each of the novels in this series.i never had considered the reality of the role of spies in the Revolutionary War. I found the characters well- fleshed-out and believable. I liked the realities - both fictional and factual that Hines created.
