Set in an apartment building in modern day inner city Melbourne, this story is complex with loads of well-drawn, eccentric characters. The mystery was convoluted, and most of the apartment dwellers had a part in the solution.
Numerous current social issues were touched on, so some may think this book is not quite a cozy mystery, but I enjoyed its complexity and humour.

kerry Chapman is an accomplished author who writes a fabulous story around the tenants and owners of a block of units in inner Melbourne.. Her heroine is Corinna Chapman, a very hardworking baker, who owns her own business, loves cats, restorative gin and tonic, her friends and employees and the lucious Daniel. A book I could not put down and am in the process of reading the series. A total pleasure

This series is a joy!
All the characters are real, multidimensional and interesting.
Melbourne is so evocative, she's a character in her own right.
Highly recommended.

Can't wait for the next instalment of Corinne Chapman. Kerry Greenwood never fails in her storytelling and brings Melbourne to life as a fascinating backdrop.

Funny, witty and irresistible

This is the sequel to the introductory novel featuring Corinna Chapman, breadmaker extraordinaire and a soft touch for all felines, waifs and strays. Corinna and her neighbours and frineds are a diverse cast of characters, each with their own back-stories and daily lives. Who could resist the heady combination of errant kittens, soothsaying, romance and financial skulduggery? A pleasure to read, but challenging if you are trying to resist the urge to consume more carbs.

Heavenly Pleasures
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 October 2012Verified Purchase
Corinna Chapman, baker, is enjoying life with the handsome Daniel. Her bakery is doing well as is her apprentice, former junkie, Jason who makes muffins to die for. Corinna is just enjoying some chocolates bought from Heavenly Pleasures, a nearby chocolate shop run by her friends, Juliette and Vivienne, when she bites into one filled with chilli sauce. It seems someone is trying to sabotage Heavenly Pleasures' business. Daniel is asked to look into it in his capacity as a private detective.
As well as the chocolate problem a mysterious recluse has moved into one of the apartments in Insula - the eccentric apartment block in which Corinna lives and works and he seems to be attracting some very unpleasant people to the area. Can Corinna and Daniel between them solve the various mysteries without putting themselves or anyone else in danger?
I enjoyed this fast paced, well written mystery set in Melbourne. Corinna as an interesting character and her neighbours are eccentric but likeable. There are many touches of humour in amongst the serious subjects of feeding the homeless, dealing with alcoholism and drug addiction and forced marriage. If you enjoy this author's other series featuring Phryne Fisher then give Corinna Chapman a try.

A pleasant read, easy to pick up on the story where you left off.

This is the third in the series and is a nice light read with a happy ending. There are recipes at the back of the book which link to the story theme. There is a distinct cat presence in these novels which is nice.

Pure dead brilliant

Corinna just keeps getting better and better. The mystery this time features dirty doings at a chocolate shop, the kind where if you have to ask the prices you should not be in there. I was salivating just reading about it. Then there is the recovering drug addict Jason and his addictive muffins. I am actually trying out the recipes...and they work. Hooray. Have to confess I too am a super size female like Corinna...but where is my gorgeous ex Israeli soldier turned detective, the sexy Daniel...ah, well, at least I can keep on reading about him and enjoy some vicarious pleasure. Yum yum!

A good summer read

I was hooked on Phryne Fisher and didn't know how Kerry Greenwood could follow that act. I like Corinna Chapman and her assortment of co-residents at the Insula just as much. It's a good summer read which entertains. Plus the recipes are good once you've finished.
