Heart Strain by Michele Notaro and Sammi Cee is book one in the Interlocking Fragments series. The book focuses on Holden and Jameson. Holden’s twin brother has been shot in an arrest gone wrong and he needs to rush back to his bedside, but being back in Baltimore is hard for Holden and his family house holds a lot of bad memories in general for him. Enter Jameson, Holden’s brothers work partner, a man who holds a lot of guilt regarding what has happened to Hendrix, even though it wasn’t his fault and carrying around a lot of baggage due to his family’s treatment of him.
Here we have a beautifully woven story about two broken pieces finding each other. Both Holden and Jameson have their own story to tell and we learn about them and what they have been through throughout the story whilst also seeing two people start a new relationship in the face of something tragic which has happened. Both characters bring a lot to the story and there are deep moments of heart-break for the two when they communicate how they feel not only about each other but also about themselves and their respective family members. It certainly is a slow burn read but you want to keep turning the pages to find out what happens not only to the main characters but also the secondary characters too (I hope everyone gets a book!)
This story is all about love, friendship, family and some pretty cute animals too. A must read!
Holden wouldn’t have returned to the town he grew up in if his twin brother hadn’t been seriously injured. Hendrix (Drix) is a police officer and has been shot while on duty and is now lying in a hospital bed in a coma. The only consolation is that he knows Drix’s partner on the force, Jameson, so the two can support each other as they sit and watch over Drix. While the two sit vigil at Drix’s bedside they get chance to reconnect as adults and form a connection and chemistry with each other. I loved watching this connection grow and blossom into love between the men. With the pain of Holden’s past, Jameson feeling responsible for Drix being shot, and of course Drix being in a coma there is a lot of potential for this to be a high angst book. It’s not written as such though and in fact is a sweet low angst, slow burn novel which I really enjoyed.
I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review
Heart Strain is a beautiful, feel good, brother's best friend, low angst romance. It is well written and is the first collaboration that I've read between these authors. The connection between Holden and Jameson was evident from the beginning and I enjoyed watching their friendship and relationship grow. What I liked about this story is that, yes, initially they avoided the elephant in the room after their first crazy time together, but they quickly pulled their heads out and admitted their feelings towards the other. There was no long pining and wondering what the other person was thinking. I can't wait for Gavin's story to be told!!
This is a slow burn, brothers best friend feel good novel. For all that Holden’s brother Hendrix is in a coma, it’s relatively low angst as Holden and Jameson spend time comforting each other and getting to know each other. This is an engaging and well paced read, with some intriguing side characters, and an interesting underlying subplot that I’m definitely looking forward to following further. The sub plot give the story a little more depth, and stops it going into overly sweet territory.
Awesome, awesome story. I loved it. Holden , back in town because his brother was injured on the job. Jameson, Hendrix's partner was there to look after his twin brother. Unbeknowing they had a crush on each other at school... insecurities, family drama, angst , hope and love... great story
This is book 1 in a wonderful new series. Its a slow burn, brothers best friend, hurt/comfort book. The character development is just fabulous. I am hooked and can't wait for book 2 in this series. Well done Michele and Sammi.
