Ok I can breath there's another one

I'm not going to lie this review is really hard for me to write. Which isn't surprising because I found the first 50 percent of this book hard to read. I read to escape from reality for a few hours and this was all just too real. And I know that a few reviews compared this to a Korean drama and it might be, I've not seen any. But as an adoptee I was too busy feeling all those emotions.

It was so well written that I completely felt all of those feels. I had a feeling that I knew what was coming and in parts I did. In others I was too busy trying to figure out how this newest bombshell would affect the information we had just gotten. And hoping that Hara could catch a break long enough to deal with her emotions.

I absolutely want to kill Jen for that ending. It wasn't enough, I need happiness and sunshine and wedding bells and babies. For the last five percent I kept praying for the page numbers to change so I could get another conclusion. I feel like everything is still so unresolved and yet everything is resolved. Just not how I wanted it to be.

I was so annoyed by how the book ended. And even more annoyed that the next in the series won't be available until 2022. That said it was a good page turning read. It actually read like 2 different books. The first half read like a more serious women's fiction novel then voila the second half turned into a trademark Jen Fredrick crazy melodramatic romance! I am a fan! I am an American who lived in South Korea for 3 years, albeit Busan not Seoul, so I completely loved the setting and cultural experiences that were the background of this book. Hara was a very engaging character. The plot was pretty insane but a lot of fun! IT would have been a 5 star for entertainment value if it hadn't been for the long time between publishing book one and two. Also for $10 I don't appreciate that it didn't have a more concrete ending. You can do a series without having a cliffhanger.

This book was so incredibly relatable as far as experiences growing up in the United States as Korean American adoptee, from the "Where are you from?" question to "Your English is so good!" The author described so well the disinterest at a young age to learn about Korean culture, more as a self-preservation measure, to a growing interest and yearning as an adult. She also described how I feel about wanting to claim this culture that was taken from me while also knowing many of the people in Korea would see me only as American. I highly recommend this to any Korean American adoptees, but also to anyone who wants a glimpse into what it feels like to never truly belong -- We're seen as perpetual foreigners in the United States, and even some of the non-adoptee Asian Americans don't accept us, and we're seen as American in Korea.

I just adored this book so much!! Jen Frederick took all my K Drama dreams and threw them into book form and I am so happy!!

Full disclosure, this is the first in a duology and we end on a cliffhanger, but for me (as someone who hate cliffhangers) this has me even more excited to see what happens with Hara, our protagonist!

This book made me feel everything and the romance aspect had me squealing and giddy and just UGH ALL OF THE FEELS. Our leading man is a sweet cinnamon roll of a man and I just love him so much.

I have been wanting to visit Seoul for a while now, but this story gave me such strong wanderlust that I need to make it there ASAP!

Already one of my 2021 favorites and I can’t wait for everyone to read this!

I really enjoyed going on this journey with Hara to discover her birth parents and to maybe find her own way. I liked the characters, the meet cute and Jen Frederick’s writing is very lyrical in this story. The words just flowed for me and I could feel the gamut of emotions that Hara so desperately seems to want to conceal from everyone, including herself. As stated by other readers, the ending is a gut punch and not what one would usually find in a romance. Knowing that there will be a second book has softened that for me a bit, but had I known ahead of time about the ending, I might have waited for the next book to release before reading this one.

I've never been to Korea but after reading Heart and Seoul, I felt as if I was transported. This story of Hara as a Korean Adoptee is one that is tender, heart breaking, and yet endearing. I was so invested in her journey of finding her Korean parents, and love along the way. Yes, there's a cliffhanger, but if you're a fan of K-Dramas, then you'll love the drama and the anticipation of the next installment! FIVE Emotional Stars all the way up!
