Product Description

Three hearts beat as one, for one. Always.

"Everything inside him ached for Claira in a way that was completely unfair to the memory of his wife." ~ Grey McLendon

Six years after losing their wife, the McLendon brothers are focused on running their family ranch, Falcon Ridge, and raising their rambunctious twin boys. They've never believed they could find another woman with which to share their hearts and family.

When Matt and his twin, Mason, meet their sons' classy new teacher, hope and love aren't the only things that spring back to life. Matt is convinced she was Heaven sent to heal their family. Mason hopes he's right, but knows they have a bigger problem than convincing Claira to take a chance on their unconventional family; a much bigger, surly, older brother kind of problem.

After their wife died, Grey McLendon planned to live the rest of his life comfortably numb from the neck down, even if it killed him...and it just might if he can't reconcile his guilt, and desire for Claira, before her treacherous past catches up with her.

4.0 out of 5 stars A sexy, suspenseful, hopeful romance: 3 hearts beat for 1, forever 23 April 2016
By Red Apple Reader - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
"Don't try to undo one mistake by making another."

The MacLendons--for at least two generations now--choose an alternative lifestyle that works for them. One wife. Three husbands (who are brothers). Plenty of parents to go around. It's a backward presentation of polygamy (which was never mentioned in the book). Children who are dearly loved, wanted, and cherished. Better than most 'normal' families can offer.

When the MacLendon brothers meet Claira they individually and collectively fall hard. She's what's missing from their home and hearts and family ever since the untimely death of their wife six years ago when their twin sons were born. And all 3 widowers are in different stages of grieving and healing. Claira hasn't had, out of necessity, a loving long-term relationship. Her reaction to three gorgeous, sexy cowboys all intent on making her theirs seemed spot on.

Some editing mistakes that snagged my reading ('live' when 'life' is correct, periods that should have been question marks), but overall quite cleanly edited and a smooth read (except for excessive exclamation points). The story presents fun twists, surprises, and "whoa, I didn't see that one coming" moments--for the characters as well as for me reading it. This sexy read had me believing that three brothers (with one very strong alpha: Grey) could actually share a wife and love doing so. Each of the 3 brothers had a very different personality and way of speaking as well as a way of loving Claira.

What I loved MOST about this sexy read is that it had lots of story around the sex. Real conflict. Deadly challenges. Reasons why the 4 of them couldn't just ride off into the sunset together. Plenty of scenes that weren't about one or more brothers wanting to get Claira naked.

Sensuality Level: HOT, Rated R+, graphic
Language: Rated R (no words barred)
Violence: Rated R (lots of suspense, bad guys, shoot outs, and danger)

Title: The Heart of Falcon Ridge
Series: The McLendon Family Saga
Designation: Book One of Series, Full-Length Standalone(256 pages), NO Cliffhanger (Originally Published Title: Second Chances)
Author: D.L. Road
Genre: Contemporary Western Menage Romance, Family Saga
Reading Edition: Kindle Edition
My Rating: Four Deliciously Sexy Stars****
Wow! This is my first time reading D.L. Roan but it most certainly won't be my last! The Heart of Falcon Ridge is a steamy, well crafted full-length standalone contemporary western family saga filled to the brim with heart-stopping danger, heartwrenching drama, spine-tingling suspense, perplexing mystery, agonizing angst, mind-blowing plot twists, heartwarming romance and dreamy sex. The narrative is well written with a third person omniscient perspective which is my least favorite since it can often be quite confusing not to mention aggravating if not done correctly. Constantly changing points of view within a chapter can often be exhausting for the reader, however, Roan did an exceptional job and focused primarily on the four protagonists of the story, Claira Robbins and the three McLendon brothers, Grey, Matt and Mason. The dialogue is well executed and flows smoothly. I must admit, the storyline is creative and quite unique as well as intense, steamy and romantic but without a doubt, my favorite component is the cast of intriguing characters. They are captivating, engaging, endearing and well developed. I was instantly smitten with all three of the sexy McLendon brothers, each with his own characteristics and charms. A woman would be a very lucky girl indeed to hold the hearts of all three of these widowed Montana rancher brothers as did the beautiful substitute teacher Claira Robbins. And Claira was such a delight. I was immediately drawn to her character's bravery and dedication. She's absolutely perfect for the three McLendon brothers and they played off each other brilliantly. The interaction between the four of them was so hot it sizzled! Did I like this book? Yes, very much! Would I recommend it? You bet, but only for adults since it does contain some steamy, dreamy sex scenes including several menage scenes. There were a few bumps and boo-boos but nothing major and certainly nothing that distracted me from the story. For instance, I found it quite odd that Claira would have her own cell phone in the pocket of a pair of discarded scrubs she found in the hospital. It would possibly have made more sense for her to simply use the phone in the office in which she was hiding to call Daniel, although I also understand the need for her to have her phone in the scene since it had a tracker installed. Quite the dilemma.... I realize I can be a little OCD about details no one else seems to notice, but it's still a great book. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! I fell in love with Grant Kendal, a secondary character introduced in this story and was thrilled to learn he has his own book. I raced back to Amazon to purchase his book, Surviving Redemption, the first release in the Survivors' Justice Series. Now, I have to hurry and finish this review so I can start reading Grant's story! lol... And finally, was I entertained? Totally! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read.

Claira Robbins has no hope of ever finding love. She's lucky to even be alive and wouldn't be had it not been for Daniel Gregory and the witness protection program. The only person who had ever really cared for her was now dead and supposedly by her own hand. Her father was a monster and so were the people who worked with him and now they wanted her dead. She has a new life with a new identity but she knew they would somehow find her. No matter where she runs, her past would eventually catch up with her. She could never love anyone or allow them to love her. She never wants to be responsible for another person's death. But all reason flies out the window as soon as she meets the three handsome McLendon brothers and all three claim to be the father of her twin six-year-old students, Carson and Conner McLendon. What the heck? How is that even possible? No matter the how, she can't deny her attraction to each of them and apparently, the feeling is completely mutual, well, except for Grey who seems to hate her. But how do you reconcile loving three men...three brothers...equally and being a lover to not one, but all three, made even more complicated by the fact her love could get them all killed?

The McLendon brothers are unconventional, to say the least, and it definitely runs in the family. Grey, Matt and Mason McLendon have already lost their first wife, and yes, I said wife, as in one. They were brokenhearted over their loss, yet neither of them are able to resist the attraction they feel for their sons' new teacher, but with Grey, Matt and Mason McLendon, it's all for one and one for woman for all three and despite the odds, they may have found a second special woman who could capture and hold all three of their hearts. They lost their first love six years earlier and truly believed there would never be another....until Claira Robbins. But Claira is not really Claira and she has dark, dangerous secrets that could destroy them all. Would they lose her too? We'll see!

2.0 out of 5 stars Insta love 21 July 2016

Insta-love times 4. There should have been more time spent on developing the love story before everyone immediately and magically knew they had met the love of their life. Grey was a hold out in admitting it, but the reader was left with no doubt he instantly was in lust. All this talk of great love and we weren't shown any of it, it just developed on sight.

Also, for all the build up, the love scenes were short and not very detailed.

The premise was intriguing, but a huge part of the story was missing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shared lust. Shared love. Shared healing. 19 January 2016

The story of Claira coming into the lives of the three McLendon brothers is glorious. From the first scene, you're hooked. She's hooked. He's hooked. Two more to follow before her first school week is over. Oodles of delectable romantic and sexual tension keep the reader in anticipatory heaven. Surprising, shocking entanglements and events draw all the characters into a malestrom of lust that cannot be denied. Sex must be had. Love and destiny must be acknowledged. But a foursome?

Heart of Falcon Ridge is a 5 star novel I'm so glad Amazon Kindle brought to my attention. At first, I just expected to be tittilated by the antics of Claira and Matt and Mason and Grey - I'd never read that twist before! Instead, I found a complex plot worthy of any type of novel, a host of beautifully defined characters I didn't want to leave behind, and a feeling that I was witnessing real love and devotion blossom. Maybe a MFMM foursome could really work.

Oooh, I wish those steamy McLendon brothers were real. I would be so content with just one of them!

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 SHARE WORTHY STARS!!! 1 February 2016

Over the years, I've grown to love books that are in the M/F/M genre. The Heart of Falcon Ridge is that in spades!!! Neither D.L. Roan or this book was on my TBR until I got the opportunity to read and review the third book in this series, Rock Star Cowboys. I'm one of these readers that if a book is part of a series, I like to read all the books in the series that I haven't read.

I'm so glad I did that because I loved this book and all the elements involved that bring us our Heroine Claira and our Heroes Grey, Matt and Mason, the oh so handsome and sexy McLendon brothers. The McLendon brothers own and operate a ranch in Montana and live on their land with their Mom and three Dads. The Polyandry way of life is all they know and all they ever want. They had it once, but lost their first wife when the twins Con and Car were born, which is what brings Claira into their lives. She's the new substitute teacher at the twins' school and Grey is the first one to meet the beautiful teacher, who knocks him over with her beauty. Problem is that Grey hasn't quite gotten over Sarah and is somewhat reluctant to bring Claira into their world. Matt on the other hand upon his first vision of Claira has a more visceral reaction....

"Matt sat Carson down and looked up to locate Connor when his gaze locked onto the image of an angel. Every ounce of blood in his body pooled in his groin and the hair on the back of his neck prickled against his skin."

Needless to say with these thoughts, Matt is determined to bring Claira into their world as their new "woman" and he won't stop until she's in their bed. But things aren't that simple. If they were, there wouldn't be any story! I loved watching Claira experience the attraction she felt upon meeting Mason and how she felt things she had never felt before. However, there's more to Claira than meets the eye and she's very reluctant to get involved with the three men as she doesn't want to bring her problems upon them, but sometimes you just have to go for what makes you happy and hope that things will work out the way you want them to.

"Mason gathered her close, his hands roaming her bare back. 'Don't you feel it?' He pulled back and tilter her chin up so that she was forced to look at him. "Do you think it's like this with just anyone? I can't deny that we're little more than strangers Claira, but there's something familiar that my soul, our souls recognize in you. We were made to fall in love with you.'"

As I read more and more of the book, the sexual chemistry between all four of them made me glad I've learned to hold my kindle close to chest while reading because let me tell you, if anyone was peaking over my shoulder they may have been shocked by what I was reading. Ms. Roan definitely knows how to write these scenes to bring the maximum of sensations a reader wants to have while reading an erotic book that's for sure.

The story progresses so smoothly that I totally forgot this was not a "typical" romance because the way the brothers interacted together and separately with Claira, the twins and their parents reflected that this is just one big happy family, there just happens to be 3 dads and 1 mom! However, there's more than meets the eye where Claira is involved and it could prove to be dangerous.

What is Claira hiding? Can the McLendon men protect her? Do they want to? Can Claira reconcile her life to living with and loving three men and their twin boys? You'll get all these answers plus some of the most blisteringly hot sex scenes that you'd ever want to read. Just be prepared to be clenching your thighs together while reading this book!!!
