His Touch Makes Me Forget My Scars...

I had everything: looks, money, adoring fans all over the world. In a split-second, everything changed.

Now, I’m a prisoner in my own home, scared to face the world. Then one fateful night I meet him. Kade’s tough, fearless, and knows the meaning of the word loss. He’s also sexy as hell. When our worlds collide, neither one of us will be the same.

I’m a fighter. I have the scars to prove it, not just from the war, but from inside the ring too. And although we come from two different worlds, Melody’s scars run just as deep. After everything I’ve lost, it’s hard to keep fighting. But then Melody gives me a reason.

Note: This is a stand-alone romance novel with an HEA ending that is intended for adults only.

I am torn, whilst Melody has the main stage and is centre of this story so to speak, I really connected with Kade from the beginning more than I did with her.

I have thought on my review for a few days and I think it was probably because Melody ultimately was scarred and had underlying issues and she did struggle with self worth and was quite depressed for half the book so I am thinking that is probably why it took me longer to feel emotion for her. I found myself looking forward to Kade and how he was going to help Melody and I was not disappointed. He was very black and white in his life view and Melody was definitely more shades of grey and yes she was the creative force in the end.

When Melody finally realises there is more to her than what is on the outside and she starts to find her way I was totally with her and I really did enjoy how Kade and her relationship developed over the book.

So fair warning this is not a happy hearts and flowers type of romance, it is sad, painful, quite lonely at times but it is worth taking the journey with these two characters.

This is my first story by these authors and I wonder if they write together or they pick a character each and entwine the story particularly at the start as it definitely felt like two stories entwining into one, perhaps that is how they wanted it to appear before they joined the two characters in a partnership to help heal the other.

I was provided a copy by the authors for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Total Emotional Gut punch 8 January 2016

Healing Melody: Ozlo and Priya Grey
Total emotional gut punch. 5 stars

Melody Swanson had it all. She was young, beautiful, rich and had an amazing voice. She’s being called the “voice of a generation” but man, is she screwed up. She’s under obligation to write songs for her label and the pressure is mounting. Melody is stifled creatively and she’s tried everything…alcohol, drugs, etc, but nothing is working. Desperately, she turns to her other addiction, sex. (Well, she doesn’t think she’s an addict but her therapist does…but really what does she know anyway?) On her way to a midnight tryst, Melody suffers a car accident, which leaves her horribly disfigured. Now, she hides behind a mask, literally and figuratively, interacting only with those she employs. Even her gold-digging parents are worried and bring her a therapy dog. Melody is content to continue her reclusive existence but fate, the fickle bitch, isn’t through with her yet. She learns that she’s STILL under obligation to her label to produce an album or they’ll sue.
Kade, an embattled veteran struggling with PTSD is a lost man. Life, and poor choices in friends, is literally beating the crap out of him. He’s a cage fighter taking a pounding, in underground fights, searching for a miracle but one last Hail Mary leaves him injured. Body broken, with no other options, he enters into a deal with the devil. He sells his gym, and his body, for an experimental treatment that might…MIGHT…save his son. Devastated by all that’s happened and the debt he owes, he becomes an escort.
Knowing that she has to jumpstart her creative process and horribly alienated in her solitary existence, Melody believes the only way she’ll ever enjoy the touch of a man again is to pay for the service. She stumbles across a website offering escorts and is stunned by what she finds. She sees eyes staring back at her that mirror her own pain.
“Why’d you choose me?”
“Something in your eyes, they lured me in.” …
“What about my eyes?...”
“They’re haunted… When I saw them, I just felt like you might be able to relate to me.”
I didn’t immediately fall in love with this book; Melody seemed like everything I can’t stand about the entertainment industry. She came across horribly selfish and entitled but I wanted her to be better than that. Thank goodness the authors agreed. Isn’t it strange what a revelation we are when our artifices are stripped away? So, I waited for her breakthrough.
On the other hand, I connected with Kade right from the start. My nerves began to sing when I realized why he was putting himself through the beatings. They started fraying when I read about his struggle outside the hospital room. They were shot when he described the struggle our military goes through trying to reintegrate into the world they fought to protect. I was beyond angry when I realized the lengths he was being forced to go to in order to repay his debt. I was a livewire and my heart broke for him.
Both characters are struggling with their own form of PTSD and I loved that the authors were sensitive to that. They introduced various mediums of assistance, therapy, pets, etc and I like that they are using reading as a way to break down some of those taboos, in some small part. I also believe deeply in the power of music to heal.
In the end, I loved this book. Its redemptive nature of the story and the power to be reborn after tragedy captured me. Even when I didn’t like Melody, it was a page-turner. It was my first time to read the Grey’s but I doubt it’ll be my last. Bravo!

3.0 out of 5 stars Sandra's View "Ok read" 10 January 2016
By Sandra - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
The book had 2742 locations on my kindle. The book was about a girl, named Melody and a man, named Kade. Melody was a young, wealthy and popular singer, who had been raised by selfish and uncaring parents. Kade was a devoted father and owner of a gym. He became a fighter and later a prostitute, in order to earn enough money to save his son's life. Melody, after becoming disfigured in a horrific accident, refuses to leave her home, therefore she hires Kade, to take care of her personal needs. The book contained some hot, sex and oral sex scenes, which were good. The book did have a happy ending. I liked the Kade character. He was compassionate and caring man, with integrity. I did not like the Melody character. She was slutty, vain and selfish.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Comeback Of The Century 7 January 2016
By Mary Clark - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
This was an exceptionally, well-written, wonderful story to read that had so much depth and feeling to it; in fact, it was an emotional roller-coaster that had lots of highs and lows, but was totally enthralling and intriguing at the same time. Kade’s son is suffering from Leukemia and Kade is having problems paying his hospital expenses, particularly after he suffers a broken leg during an underground fight and is laid up. When Shane, Kane’s childhood friend, now a major figure in the criminal world, offers Kade a proposition in exchange for paying off his bills, Kade knows he has no choice but to accept his offer, even though he doesn’t like it. Melody is a singer, but when she is pursued by Charlie, a persistent paparazzi, she is involved in a car crash that leaves her body and face badly burned and scared and her life and career in turmoil. Confined to the house, Melody needs to continue her song writing, but finds this difficult until she makes contact with Kade. She has seen his profile on a website dedicated to Military veterans; his eyes are dark, intense, resentful and haunting – reflecting how she feels. Melody’s voice captivates Kade and even though her body is badly scared, and she wears a mask on her face, he reassures her; his warmth and friendliness is palpable and when he tells her everyone has scars – hers are visible and his are underneath the surface - she knows the reason she chose him. His presence makes her feel alive again and this impacts on her music career, while helping him with his PTSD and anger issues. But not everything is as it seems, when Charlie pursues Melody yet again and forces her hand. This is a story of two “lost souls” who find what they are looking for in each other, and is certainly a book I would recommend. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great ten star read! 6 January 2016
By Karli - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
One of the better books I've read in quite awhile, this one gets ten stars. It's the first book I've read by the Grey's, but I am now a fan and will be checking out their other works. Their style is straightforward, with a good balance of romance, drama and suspense. I was so wrapped up in the characters and their story at the end that I was grinning and crying happy tears. I read a lot, and that is rare.
Melody Swanson is twenty-five and at the top of the charts as a singer/songwriter when her life is changed in an instant. A horrible automobile accident and resulting fire leave her scarred and disfigured. A year later she has become a recluse, unable to write, yet contractually obligated to write and perform another album. Challenged by a bet with her assistant, she remembers she was always at her best creatively after sex and after a few drinks goes online and finds a man with haunted eyes.
Kade has been through three tours of duty, came home to a young son whose mother is strung out on drugs, and raised him as a single father after the boy's mother left and disappeared. He finds underground fighting is a release for his anger and PTSD and makes enough fighting to open a gym. Then his son is diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. When Shane, a childhood friend, offers to pay his son's medical bills, including the experimental drugs that may save him, Kade agrees to go to work for him until his debt is paid.
Kade and Melody's lives are so different that the way they came together caught me by surprise. The challenges they face are seemingly insurmountable. But that's the reason I read romance instead of other genres. I know that most of the time, the light at the end isn't a train, and that any tears will be happy tears.
Copy received from TNL in return for an honest review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking, Soul mending and Steamy! 5 January 2016
By Peggy Lee, RKMS - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Wow, this story is a emotional roller coaster ride! It's a story of two souls who have lost their will to live and their encounter that gives them hope. This story is a real page turner, it's heartbreaking, soul mending and steamy.

Melody's life is destroyed. She's unable to face the world because of her scars but if she doesn't fulfill her obligations she could loose everything. Kade has lost his son, he suffers from PTSD and finds himself working to repay a debt. They are both suffering from personal loses until they come together and sparks fly. The story is gripping, their struggle is grief-stricken and their salvation is uplifting. It's a quick read that will leave you smiling! 4 Healing Stars!
