Men and women often fall into a place of judgement and beliefs in their lives that affects them far into the future: even when those initial beliefs are no longer valid and no longer serve a purpose. Author Christina Lorenzen describes this very well.Brody Porter was devastated by a wife who took off for show business and left him and their toddler daughter. He is now convinced big-city/artistic women are trouble. Tacy Clark is a struggling orchestra musician who was raised by an aunt and uncle after the death of her mother in a tragic accident.
She feels that everyone who loves her leaves her - so she protects her heart, departs for an impersonal city - only returning briefly at the death of her adored Uncle. Years later, she is tricked into returning to herbchildhood small town of Hill Top from the "big city" by a falsified email from from Brody. Her recuperating aunt needs help, and quickly, for the fall Apple Festival [ something that was a great emotional bond between Tacy and her Uncle] raises a huge mental conflict. This does not seem ripe for a match made in heaven. The author makes you root for these two as they try to get out of the way of these stubborn old mindsets as they grasp true love. The descriptions of Hilltop remind you of Mayberry with a special twist. The author describes the business of Fall Apple Picking for resale as an intriguing process and tastebudl-tingling way. As an ex-barista, I guarantee her scenes in the coffee shop run by Brody are spot-in accurate. The dips and valleys of restarting a neglected apple farm and reopening the coffee with expanded house are quite compelling. Best of all are the scenes where Brody and Tacy fight their growing love. Very good sweet romance to enjoy as leaves crisply break underfoot and scent of ripening apples are a heady fragrance in the air.
